News from your Director of Music
Marcella Curtiss
Invite a Friend & Come Join The Christmas Choir!
You’re invited! We are looking for singers who would like to join the Chancel Choir to
sing on Christmas Eve. While you’re thinking about it—invite a friend to come as well. Your
friend doesn’t have to be a member of the church. What is needed is a person who wants to sing
with us on Christmas Eve in the choir, and can make the rehearsals! Who knows, maybe they’ll
like Centennial so much that they will join us regularly for worship.
Rehearsals:
Sunday mornings from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon
December 7 and 21
Sunday mornings from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM
November 30 and December 14
We ask that you attend these scheduled rehearsals in order to be well prepared to sing on
Christmas Eve. We will also be rehearsing Christmas music on Thursday evenings, so if you have
to miss a Sunday rehearsal, you can join us on Thursday evening at 8:00 P.M. instead. We will be
singing at the 8:00 P.M. Christmas Eve service. Any questions, contact Marcella Curtiss at 484-
614-6604 or 610-935-2908. Celebrate with us and raise your voices in praise for the birth of God’s
Son - Jesus!

Christmas Crafts Festival
Our thanks to all who helped with our
Christmas Crafts Festival including those who
brought in a variety of pies and other baked
goods. Also thanks to Jerene Gladfelter and
Ginny Graham in charge of the kitchen (the
barbecue was delicious as always); Joanne
Cantwell, cashier; Patt Shumaker and Gigi
Mueller at the bake table; and Marilyn
Rossomando, greeter at the front door. Ruth
Kurylak was the overall coordinator from
beginning to end and the person to solve
problems if you could catch up with her (she
was everywhere). All of you and those not
named did a great job! Funds raised were
$2,143.46 plus table rent. This included
$265.50 from the kitchen and $648.75 from
the bake table.
Grandma’s Attic
The treasures you brought in this year filled
three rooms but we priced it all and made
$1,129.21! Many helpers came to work during
a week in Grandma's Attic including Elaine
Terstappen, Di Moffett, Lois Moore, Robert
Jorgensen, Betsy Miller, Deanna Kalmbach,
Patt Shumaker, Sandy Hutchinson, Makinzie
Ackroyd, Elizabeth DiNardo and Jan Bird.
Thanks to Larry Shumaker who provided
shelves for books. Additional help in packing
up afterwards or delivery was done by Paul
Breitegam, Harry Gladfelter and Judy
Ryberg with John Vondercrone putting away
tables. Left over baby items in new or good
condition were given to Lucille Jorgensen for
delivery to an organization helping single
mothers. Everything else was delivered to the
Presbyterian Church, Phoenixville working
with People To People, helping those in
need. Many, many thanks for all your help

To the Congregation of Lutheran Centennial
Church,
Over the years, members and friends of the
Lutheran Centennial Church, have been providing
support to our residents here at Jefferson Place in
Phoenixville. For those of you not familiar with our
program, we provide housing and social services for
homeless individuals. Part of the program here at
Jefferson Place is to focus on supporting individuals
and helping them integrate back into the communi-
ty. Through consistent weekly bible studies, along
with individuals who have developed relationships
with our residents, Lutheran Centennial Church has
played a rather large supporting role for our resi-
dents in this area. There has been much anticipation
every year, for the start of the “Bible Study Season”
here at Jefferson Place. I am always being asked
“When are they starting up Bible Study again?” or
told, “I can’t wait for Bible Study to start because it
gives me something to do.”
Recently, staff reached out to the congrega-
tion expressing some needs of the residents, such as
bed sheets, toilet paper, soaps, deodorants, tooth
brushes etc. The response was almost immediate
and pleasantly overwhelming. Due to the gracious
donations provided, residents with low-income and
those with no income are able to sleep on a bed with
sheets and blankets. Food stamps do not cover items
like toilet paper and tooth brushes and on numerous
occasions residents have informed staff that they do
not have toilet paper and our response used to be “I
can’t help you.” And now we are able to say “We
can help with that.”
Staff would like to send our warmest regards
and thank you to the Congregation of Lutheran
Centennial Church for being a constant presence to
our residents here at Jefferson Place.
Thank you,
Nicole Perez, Program Manager

Upside Down? Even amid increased secularization, God makes the core Christmas message known. Take, for example,
the story of a “winter pageant” a mother attended at her son’s grade school. Songs of reindeer, snow and
Santa included one titled “Christmas Love,” in which the youngest performers held up letters as the song
progressed: “C,” “H,” etc.
When a little girl unknowingly held her “M” upside down, the older kids snickered and the adult
audience smiled acceptingly. But as the song drew to a close and all the letters were revealed, surprised
recognition struck the Christians in the room.
“CHRISTWAS LOVE,” read the string of student-borne letters. God’s truth had penetrated the
human clutter and confusion around Christmas — as it has power to do throughout our lives: “Christ was
love.” And of course, he still is.
