Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Every weekend, it seems that there is so much to inform
folks about, it’s hard to keep up. Here’s what I have for this
week and weekend:
Last week at all livestreamed Masses and sent out a
Flocknote of the announcement from Bishop Zubik that our
five parishes are merging to form one new parish that will be
called Holy Family Parish, beginning July 1, 2020. This is
exciting news for all parishioners as we adopt a new name
and focus on the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph for our
patronal identity together. A copy of the letter from Bishop
Zubik was mailed to all registered parishioners last week and
is included on page 7 in the bulletin this weekend.
This weekend we also restart public Masses. We
communicated that last weekend in the bulletin how to
pre-register for Mass and how the Mass will be different with
social distancing and new norms. So far, at the weekday
Masses this week everyone has been cooperative that has
attended public Masses and they have been well attended.
Currently, we are only using St. Irenaeus, St. Januarius and
St. John the Baptist Churches for public Mass for the hard
surface pews that are easier to clean and sanitize. St.
Irenaeus and St. Johns are also open weekdays for private
prayer. We have a Safety Team which consists of
parishioners from all of our parishes with a wide range of
backgrounds in healthcare, janitorial supplies, legal,
government service and pastoral council members. They are
reviewing with me the protocol that we are establishing in our
churches. I expect that we will be having at least one public
Mass at each of our five church by the end of this month, once
we make sure that all the protocol efforts that we are making
are working well and will work in the other churches too. There
is one product that all parishioners might help with securing.
We need more hand sanitizer, specifically, we need 60-70%
alcohol gel sanitizer with NO moisturizer or scents. If you spot
a good product in your shopping and can donate it, it can be
dropped off at St. Joseph or Our Lady of Joy rectory offices.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience as we
begin the gradual process of opening up our churches for
public Mass.
This week also, we opened St. Joseph and Our Lady of
Joy rectory offices. They are open 8 AM- 4 PM Monday
through Thursday and Friday 8 AM to NOON. These are the
only two offices that have public office hours.
Last week, many of us were stunned as the wave of
protests grew following the death of George Floyd in
Minneapolis. This has once again raised racial tensions and
political commentary. As a faith community, Bishop Zubik
has issued a statement calling for peace and calm, but also
for understanding. For those interested, the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a 2018 Pastoral Letter
entitled “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love—
A Pastoral Letter Against Racism” It can be found here: http://
usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/racism/
upload/open-wide-our-hearts.pdf. Also, our parish will be
offering two Holy Hours of Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament this week, on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, and
Thursday at Our Lady of Joy, both at 6:30 PM in the parking
lot. Please consider offering an hour to God to pray for peace
and understanding in our society, or offer as much time as you
can for this cause.
Our Festival Committee met this week to discuss plans for
this year’s festival. We will have some dramatic changes as
we still work though the concerns in this pandemic time. It will
be our first Holy Family Parish festival and this year we are
calling it the special HOPE Festival, in the hope that this
pandemic will end and we can resume our former ways, if not
sooner, then at least by next year’s festival time. The HOPE
Festival will be all drive through, July 8-11. There will be no
rides or games. There will be take out dinners every night,
including our Favorite Fish Fry for two nights and the equal
favorites of Lasagna and Stuffed Cabbage. We will have a
small gift basket selection made up of gift cards for local
businesses. There is a request in the bulletin this weekend for
gift card donations that we can use for the gift basket
selection. The Grand Raffle is well underway, and we hope to
have new Holy Family Parish t-shirts, hats and other gear for
sale. There may even be a Bingo game via Zoom. Let’s all try
to make this a community festival of HOPE for all!
This weekend we celebrate the Holy Trinity, Father, Son
and Holy Spirit. Don’t confuse this weekend with the new
name of our Parish which is Holy Family. This weekend’s
feast celebrates the three persons in one God. Next weekend,
we will celebrate the universal feast of Corpus Christi, the
Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the feast that
celebrates our special sacramental life as Catholics. The last
two weeks in June will have the final parish feast of St. John
the Baptist Parish followed by St. Irenaeus Parish. We will
probably celebrate those final parish feasts at one Mass only
once we have the schedule for those weekends finalized.
Since I’m running out of space for this bulletin column, I’ll
share, in conclusion, the beautiful salutation that is in the
second reading for us this weekend: “The grace of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the
Holy Spirit be with all of you.” (2 Corinthians 13:13)
In Christ’ love,
Father Kevin

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
READING I EX 34:4B-6, 8-9
Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD
had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets.
Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there
and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus the LORD passed
before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and
gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity."
Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he
said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our
company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our
wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own."
RESPONSORIAL PSALM DN 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56
R. Glory and praise for ever!
Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers, praiseworthy
and exalted above all forever; And blessed is your holy and
glorious name, praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages.
R. Glory and praise for ever!
Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory, praiseworthy
and glorious above all forever.
R. Glory and praise for ever!
Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom, praiseworthy
and exalted above all forever.
R. Glory and praise for ever!
Blessed are you who look into the depths from your throne upon
the cherubim, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.
R. Glory and praise for ever!
READING 2 2 COR 13:11-13
Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one
another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of
love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy
kiss. All the holy ones greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus
Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with all of you.
R. Alleluia, alleluia. CF. RV 1:8
Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is,
who was, and who is to come.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL JN 3:16-18
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that
everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have
eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through
Him. Whoever believes in Him will not be condemned, but
whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
No he co-
menzado a pensar en la Trinidad cuando ya la unidad me posee
de nuevo...(0r. 40,41: PG 36,417).

MERGER PREPARATION…
As we celebrate Trinity Sunday this weekend,
we count down three weeks to the July 1
st
merger of our new parish, Holy Family. Perhaps
we feel sad about the end of our former
parishes, but let us instead remember their
successes and accomplishments. We are able
to profess our faith today, in the holy triune God,
whose love is revealed in Jesus Christ and who
has gifted us with the Spirit, because of our
former parishes. They shared the gift of faith in
the Trinity with us; they taught us how to pray in
the name of the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit. They nurtured the faith in us through
the celebration of the sacraments. They brought
us to the present moment to look forward with
courage that we too will be able to hand on the
faith in the Trinity to future generations.
HAND SANITIZER
We are in need of more hand sanitizer,
specifically, we need 60-70% alcohol
gel sanitizer with NO moisturizer or scents.

HOPE FESTIVAL BASKET AUCTION
The Basket Auction at our 2020 HOPE Festival will look a bit
different this year. We will have 10 gift card baskets. We
know these are difficult times for many, but if you are able,
we are asking for only gift card donations or cash donations
to purchase gift cards. Since local businesses in the
Oakmont, Plum, Verona and Penn Hills areas are struggling,
we can help them by purchasing local gift cards. Some
things requested are gift cards from hardware stores,
restaurants, grocery stores, hair and nail salons, gift shops,
entertainment venues, and car repair/maintenance shops,
to name a few. We’re hoping for an assortment of baskets
with wide appeal, from Mr. Fix-It to Family Fun to Date
Night. Baskets which any parishioner would be happy to
win and support our local businesses.
Please drop off donations by noon June 12 at either the

joy. We are centered in Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the
Eucharist. We are a welcoming family, striving to see Christ in all and responding to the needs
of the members of our parish and community. Called to act in faith, hope and love we seek to
become a visible presence of Christ in the world. Our Lady of Joy, pray for us!
SJV Parish Mission Statement
St. Joseph Parish is a faith community, rich in history and strong in its Catholic tradition since
1866. Through the grace of the Eucharist and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we com-
mit ourselves to building up the Body of Christ through a strong spiritual life, education in the
faith and service to our parish and community.
St. Joseph, pray for us!
SJAN Parish Mission Statement
St. Januarius is a Roman Catholic community of faith focused on the life and
teachings of Jesus Christ. We are grateful to those who have built up St.
Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and
through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents
given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and
stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and
actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.
St. Januarius, pray for us!
SJB Parish Mission Statement
Saint John the Baptist Parish is located in Plum Borough,
Pennsylvania and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese
of Pittsburgh. As a faith community, we strive to imitate
our patron Saint John the Baptist who led others to Christ.
We are committed to keeping our faith alive and growing
through prayer, sacraments, faith formation and service.
Through evangelization and stewardship we encourage
full and active participation of all members. We hope to
reflect the life and love of Christ by strengthening the faith
of our parishioners while reaching out to all God’s people.
Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
STI Parish Mission Statement
The Faith Community of St. Irenaeus strives for knowledge, service, and faith
through our patron’s guidance and the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. With love,
worship, and solidarity, we are building God’s Kingdom in our families and
communities. Nourished by Word and Sacrament, we give ourselves to Christ
and His Church for the greater glory of God our Father.
