October 11, 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

Today I have several things I would like to mention.

First of all, thank you for the vigorous attendance at the installation Mass a couple weeks ago. I appreciate your enthusiastic welcome. Many thanks to all of you who brought something to the hospitality after Mass. Cornerstone women and many others made it a festive get-together. Thanks!

Secondly, I am very pleased to inform the parish that another Carmelite has joined me in the rectory as a full-time resident – Father Emmett Gavin moved in on October 1. This is a blessing in many ways. Emmett is one of my best friends in the Carmelite community, so I appreciate that. In addition, many of you already know him because he has been doing Saturday Mass and weekend supply for several years. All that will continue.

Father Emmett also assists at Saint Anastasia Church in Teaneck every weekend. He is a civil lawyer and a canon lawyer and that latter item keeps him busy on Carmelite canonical business. So he will stay busy and help us as much as he can. Welcome, Father Emmett!

Additionally, the needs of the Office of Concern at Saint Cecilia Church in Englewood are constant. We collect food and gift cards for the Office of Concern on the second Sunday of every month. Contributions can also be made every week on the way out of Mass into the green Office of Concern offering baskets.

Finally, we continue the practice of passing the basket at the Offertory only once each Mass as the normal custom. When there are two envelopes in your offertory pack for a given Sunday, please put both envelopes into the collection the first time it passes. There are, however, four or five times a year when we will take up a second collection, such as for Mission appeals and in response to some of the tragedies that confront the peoples of the world.

Many thanks to all of you for everything you do to make Our Lady of Mount Carmel a thriving and energetic parish community!

Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

fr. Dan [email protected]

Welcome Father Emmett Gavin, O.Carm.

to the parish community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel!

WEEKLY RUNDOWN

Are You Being Called to Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction encourages us to explore a closer relationship with God. In the midst of a busy life, many of us find it difficult to notice God’s action in our daily affairs. Yet, at the deepest level, all of us long for a more conscious experience of God’s presence and love. It’s really not about being directed. Rather, it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to God.

Spiritual Direction is carried out in the context of a one-to-one trusting and confidential relationship. The spiritual director is trained to be a guide who journeys with you and listens to your story with an ear for the movement of the Holy Spirit.

If you think that spiritual direction might be a way for you to discern God’s actions in your life, contact Deacon Lex at [email protected] or 201 568-6819.
