ELECTION OF A NEW AUGUSTINIAN PROVINCIAL

During the week the Augustinians in Australia elected a new leader

in the person of Fr David Austin.

Fr Dave will succeed Fr Tony Banks as Prior Provincial for the

coming four years. The Augustinians convene a Provincial Chapter

in July this year at which time the provincial elect will be formally installed and a new

leadership team elected to carry out the work of the Order in the coming period.

The Augustinians have been in Australia for over 175 years working in areas as far flung as North

Queensland and the country areas of Victoria, as well as the cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The Province has also established two boys schools, Villanova College in Brisbane and St Augustine’s

College in Brookvale, Sydney. The Province also established a presence in South Korea in the 1980’s.

Fr Dave was educated at Villanova College in Brisbane, studied theology in Washington, and has served in

Australia as a teacher in both Colleges and as Rector of St Augustine’s College. He has also served as a

pastor in Augustinian parishes in Victoria, Queensland, and currently at St. Clair, in the Parramatta Diocese,

NSW. Fr Dave brings to his new role a wealth of experience in the Australian Church, and the Order

internationally.

We give thanks for the election of the new provincial, pray for him as he assumes the burdens of the office,

and hope that the Order will continue to serve the Church in this country in the new challenging environment

in which it finds itself with the same creativity and enthusiasm it has had over the past century and more.

From Fr. Brian

St Kieran’s Renovations

Drawings of the upcoming renovations are currently

on display in the foyer of St Kieran’s Church.

The job is starting to gather pace with registrations of

interest now closed and lodgement of tenders closing

on March 26. The start date will be as soon after

Easter as practical. There will be some disruption to

the Church schedule as we progress with the building

works; we will keep the parish as up to date as

possible once we get underway. Plans for the work

are displayed in the foyer of the church.

Last weekend, our year 3 Reconciliation children,

and our RCIC candidates, received their

‘Ritual of the Cross’ crucifixes.

“We ask you to take this cross as a sign that you forgive others as you wish to be forgiven. May this crucifix be held as a sacred sign in your life of God’s great love for all people. “

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

‘They saw no one except Jesus himself alone.’

Matthew 17: 8

At school: When do I take time just to look at Jesus, to

think just about him?

At work or study: Where do I see Jesus alone…in my

heart, in others?

In my family life When do we have a Jesus-alone-time at

our place?

Discipleship this week! Put out a cross near the front door.

Touch it gently as you go out!
