Reflection on today’s readings ….
We have the power of speech so that we can honour
God by praising him, by praying to him for our needs,
by thanking him for all his gifts, and by making him
known to all peoples, so that they too can appreciate
what he has done for them and what he should mean
to them. Some good people do all this. By word and
example, they show their respect for their Creator and
Saviour, and they move others to do likewise. There
are others, unfortunately, who do the opposite. They
blaspheme against their Creator, they insult their great-
est benefactor and by their bad example in speech and
in action they lead others to imitate them.
Every Life Matters

Prayer to St Michael the Archangel
Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle, be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Host by the power of God thrust down into hell Satan and all the wicked spirits who wander through this world for the ruin of souls. Amen

Mt Carmel 500 Club February Winners
1st Prize £140 No 210 Fr Bob Wright 2nd Prize £40 No 175 Jen Turner 3rd Prize £20 No 274 Lucy Locket Kindergarten
Important
Unfortunately the membership of the 500 club has diminished to 340, this being mainly due to the loss of older parishioners and lack of interest which means that unless over the next month our membership increases substantially, the prize money will reduce and there will only be two winners each month—1st Prize will be £120 and 2nd Prize will be £50. The 500 Club is a great way to raise money for the parish, it only costs £12 a year for 1 number which is only £1 per week and half the money goes in prizes and the other half to the parish. Over the years the money raised has paid for many items for the church and parish such as the statue of Our Lady in the carpark, cassocks and cottas, tree surgery on Mount Carmel site. If you would like to join, please pop into the parish office.

Monday Saint Casimir
(1458-1484) He was the son of King Casimir IV and Queen Elizabeth, monarchs of Poland and Lithuania. In contrast to other members of the royal court, he was a shining example of faith, piety, humility and chastity. He had a great love for the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary. He was named Patron saint of Poland in 1602.
Ash Wednesday Day of Fasting & Abstinence
Thursday Saints Perpetua & Felicity
St Perpetua, a young mother of noble birth, and St Felicity, a heavily pregnant slave girl, were imprisoned at Carthage in 203 because of their Christian faith. Before they met their death, Felicity gave birth to a girl and Perpetua was still nursing her new born son. They were thrown to wild beasts in the arena. The passion of St Perpetua provides a particular vivid account of their martyrdom. They are included in the Roman Canon.
Friday Saint John of God
(1495-1550) He heeded the Word of God when he was already forty two years old and from then on lived at the service of the sick in Granada (Spain). Before that he was successively, a farmer, soldier, and merchant. He founded his Order of Brothers Hospitallers of St John of God, devoting themselves to the infirm in soul and body.
Saturday Saint Frances of Rome
(1384-1440) St Frances was a married woman, and a mother of 6 children. She was zealous in the performance of every house-hold duty, saying, ‘A married woman must often leave God at the Altar to find Him in her household care.’ She patiently endured many trials, including the death of two of her children, the exile of her husband and the confiscation of their estates. In 1433 she founded the Benedictine Oblates of the Tor de’Specchi to contin-ue her works of charity, and after her husband died in 1436 she became their superior. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
