TREE OF HOPE

The tree of hope is near the shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for anyone who wishes to hang a leaf for their own particular petition or sorrow. Feel free to take a leaf anytime and write a name or message on it to hang on the tree and spend sometime in prayer.

Monday Blessed Robert Sutton

(1588) St Robert Sutton was born at Kegwell in Leicestershire, and as an adult went on to become a schoolmaster in London. He was hanged at Clerkenwell for having been reconciled with the Catholic Church. He was beatified in 1929.

Wednesday Saint Martha

Our Lord liked the home of St Martha, her brother Lazarus, and her sister Mary. As our Lord’s friends in Bethany, they took loving care of Him.

Thursday Saint Peter Chrysologus

(Fifth century) As Bishop of Ravenna, Italy, he was outstanding in his apostolic zeal, for his preaching and his writings.

Friday Saint Ignatius Loyola

(1491-1556) Born in Loyola, Spain, he became a soldier. Following his conversion, he went to Paris to study theology. There he gathered his first followers. With them he founded the Society of Jesus in Rome, which is dedicated to the greater glory of God and to the service of the Church, in total obedience to the Pope.

Saturday Saint Alphonsus Mary de’Ligouri

(1696-1787) St Alphonsus was born in Naples, Italy. As a young man, he was a lawyer, but later became a priest. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists). He was given the title Doctor of the Church for his writings on Moral Theology. A tireless apostle of the Eucharist and of our Blessed Mother, he worked with great zeal for the poor and the sick.

SAINTS & FEASTS FOR THE WEEK-

GOING INTO HOSPITAL IMPORTANT Please let us know if you are going into hospital.

It is ESSENTIAL that you ask for a Catholic Chaplain when in hospital. Chaplains are no longer given names of patients. Many health care providers (Hospitals, Nursing Homes) apportion resources for chaplaincies in line with how many requests are made, so you are actually doing the Church a favour by requesting the Catholic chaplain and the sacraments. The Catholic Chaplain for the Alexandra Hospital is Father David.
