HOW ANDREW CARNEGIE ACQUIRED HIS WEALTH

• Andrew Carnegie started off as a messenger boy, and worked his way towards a position at the Pennsylvania railroad.

• While working there, he made $35 a month.

• Conquered several occupations leading his way into a more superior position.

• He swiftly obtained the Keystone Bridge Company™.

• As time progressed, Carnegie achieved massive amounts of money.

• He eventually sold his steel company to a financer named JP Morgan for $480 million

• Resulting in him becoming the richest man in the world during the 19th century.

HOW ANDREW CARNEGIE SPENT HIS MONEY

• Carnegie spent most of his money on libraries, schools, and universities.

• He invested on railroads and bridges.

HOW ANDREW CARNEGIE DONATED HIS MONEY

• In Scotland he donated $10 million in 1901 to establish the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.

• In 1886, he donated $250,000 to Allegheny City for a music hall and library.

• He donated $2 million in 1901 to start the Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT) at Pittsburgh.

• He opened The Broome County public library in October of 1904.

• By the time his life was over, he donated about $350 million.

• Carnegie created the steel industry and set a model for other big businesses and industries.

• He has arguably contributed more than anyone else to advance America into modernity.

• He had a strong emphasis on control, efficiency, and qualification.

• Carnegie has been characterized as a transformational leader; a “charismatic visionary with a great passion”

• He has been known as the greatest philanthropist the United States ever had.

BASED ON THE INFORMATION ABOVE… WAS ANDREW CARNEGIE A ROBBER BARON OR CAPTAIN OF INDUSTRY.

• Andrew Carnegie, a successful Scottish-American industrialist who expanded the steel industry. According to the his achievements and

the choices he’s made, it’s safe to say he was a “Captain of Industry” during the 19th and 20th century. Andrew initially started off as just a

regular immigrant, like most of the population, and worked hard to get to the top. He donated and contributed a lot of society. Andrew

Carnegie also supported the “gospel of wealth” idea, which essentially describes that the wealthy should use their money to

support the rest of society.
