Where can you find the “king of rocking and rolling”, and the king of whis-ky in one town? Lynchburg, TN. That’s right, home of Little Richard, and Jack Daniels. Only 74 miles south of Nashville, a jewel of a town, and well worth the trip. Drop by for a firsthand look at the world renown distillery where one of our guides will accompany you on a tour and tell you the complete story of our whiskey and founder, Jack Daniels. Visit our website for more details, including details on a “backstage” tour of the distillery, with a sampling of our world famous “Old Number 7.”

The town of Lynchburg is the seat of Moore County, the smallest county in Tennessee. Even though it’s home to the Distillery, it’s a dry county and has been ever since Prohibition. While the Distillery may be the main attrac-tion here, you don’t want to miss other local favorites. Our tip? Have lunch at Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House, and take a trip to the Lynchburg Hardware & General Store. If you want to explore all the sights in Lynch-burg, take your time. There’s plenty to see, so bring your comfy walking shoes. See nearby lodging accommodations including area bed and break-fasts on our website. Slow down, drop in, and come see us! We hope to see you around Lynchburg sometime soon.

A Worthwhile Cause

Metro Nashville Police Christmas CharitiesThe Metro Nashville Police Christmas Basket Charities is a non-profit charity 501(C)3 which officially gets underway each November. Because the program strives each year to meet the needs of an ever growing Nashville, funding is always a matter of concern.

Motorcycle toy parades have been held annually which have been in-strumental in raising money, toys, and stuffed animals for our program. Boswell’s Harley-Davidson sponsors this event which grows greatly each year. Several other organizations have also provided money and toys. Contributions are also made by police employees and other individuals in the community.

Families are selected based on recommendations from police employees who actually meet the families during their regular work duties. Careful selection is done to identify the neediest families, including many children. Thrifty buying allows for large quantities of basic foods to be purchased to provide 4 bushel baskets of groceries per family. The baskets of food and toys are assembled in a warehouse the week prior to Christmas. Christmas Eve morning before dawn, em-ployees of the police department arrive to participate. Police personnel line up at the loading dock in their cars to accept baskets for delivery. By 9:00 AM, all the baskets have been loaded and distributed, and the warehouse is quiet for another year. A great satisfaction is felt by those participating in being able to make the holidays more enjoyable for those less fortunate.

From the generosity and kindness of employees and citizens alike, the program has helped families in need for over 50 years! Last year, over 800 baskets of food were delivered and over 600 children re-ceived toys that they would have otherwise never received. Our program also provides baskets to the elderly which contain hard candy, food and warm gloves. Santa in blue has become a lasting memorial to the caring nature of five decades of police employees.
