I am Janice Croft Tipps. I am the Senior Resident Coordinator for the Housing Authority. I am not a native of Calhoun but I have lived here thirty-five plus years. I started working for the Au-thority in 1990 and I have been employed in the housing industry almost all of the past years since 1990. I am married to Ross Tipps and we have 6 children between us and we have thirteen grandchil-dren, their wives and my grand-children. I spend as much time with them as possible. We pres-ently have four grandchildren in college and one who just graduated from college as a nurse. My husband and I like to go camping and just travel in general. I have a precious little dog named Whiskers and I'm not sure sometimes if I am his master or he is my master. He is a rescue dog and is about seven years old. My parents are both deceased and my oldest sister. I have two sisters and one brother and try to keep in touch with them because a person's family is really important. I love my work and consider myself a people's person. I love the challenge of my job. I enjoy doing volunteer work and just helping people out. I have many hobbies, but I think I love to work in my yard with my flowers the most.

Section 3 announcements

There are currently no job openings with the Calhoun Housing Authority. As we start new projects, our contractors will post an announcement board to list any job openings that they may have available. Please check with each development for possible employment opportunities. We currently have contractors on Neal Street. As the Calhoun Housing Authority may have job opportunities, we hire through 2Work Staffing. If you would like to be notified by email regarding any announcements or job postings relating to Section 3, please email me at [email protected]

Let me tell you a little about myself……….

We have been really busy here at the Imagination Station! School is just around the corner but that's not slowing us down! Just this month we have participated in field trips and crafts and we have even started some academic work. We still have a few more things planned before school

starts back but we'd like to tell you a few of the activities we are doing. At the beginning of the month we went to a blueberry farm here in Gordon County and picked 5 lbs of blueberries!! They tasted so good! Our teachers wanted us to use the blueberries so we were able to make homemade blueberry muffins! They were delicious! A few days later our

group went to Kidz-Play for two hours! We played in four different inflatables and had snacks while we were there! All-in-all, the summer has been laid back like it's supposed to be. We have enjoyed movies and play time but to keep us active and our minds engaged, our teachers have planned many crafts and academic activities for us. We also have daily

discussion, daily reading, recess and computer time. We have a lady that comes every Thursday to read the book, “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O'Dell to us. It is a true story about Pacific Indian Natives. The activity that we did to go along with the book was to paint gourds. Gourds grow in the ground and are in the same family as squash. Another academic activity that we are working on this month is a puppet show. One of our teachers read the book, “The Three Billy Goat's Gruff” to our class and prepared a script for us to perform. We made our own puppets and back ground for the puppet show and we will get to perform it later this

month! We are currently making piñatas! The Mandarins would use a stick to hit the piñata and bananas would fall out! They would burn the remains of the piñata and gather the ashes for good luck for the next year. Did you know that the word

piñata means “punching bag?” We finished the program with a bang by going to the Tellus Museum, CiCi's pizza, and Chuck E Cheese! That was a great

way to end our summer and we have so much to tell our friends about when school begins!

Please remember: All children attending the Imagination Station must be in good standing with the program. All the chil-dren will be expected to follow the rules and be on their best behavior at all times. If you have had a problem with this in

the past, check in with Miss Ashley to find out if you may attend. The Imagination Station Youth Program’s new hours will be 3:00 p.m. TO 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday starting August 6, 2010. There will be no pick up service. Students can ride the school bus to the

station. Thanks, Gail Brown & Ashley Smith
