The Business of Film Development Hell is the process in which the idea is developed into a script. However, the making in the film takes longer than hoped for and may not even have started the production. There is about an equal chance in the film being produced due to it needing to be funded – for the actual production, cast, distribution, etc. Something that’s popular one week may lose its popularity the next week which would therefore change the cast and everything else in the variable factor. Funded and Distributed Every film itself is like a start-up business. Some businesses become so successful that they become businesses themselves such as the Harry Potter franchise. A film business is almost a break even business, by making movies that appeal to the global audience. Movies such as Harry Potter may be made here but they are owned by the Hollywood Studios, who takes the lion shares of the profit. Screenwriters are essentially the basis of everything who put forth their ideas and keep the production genuine. Cast With your film having stars in it, it raises popularity and therefore it would become more world-wide rather than it being shown in a festival. The only problem with casting stars is that it can also raise your budget, which means you’re spending more than anticipated. Films are driven by their casting though – stars sell pictures and it can make a strong cast. The Marketing This would usually come under things that would increase the popularity for the film, such as trailers, teaser trailers, stills, forums on the internet and most importantly social networks – twitter is known to being able to spread the word more easily; word of mouth – it may then move on to the word of mouth out in the open. Case Study – Matthew Vaughn He is an English film producer and director and some of the most known films he has produced is Kick-Ass, Stardust and X-men: First Class. Vaughn went to Stowe School which is located in Buckingham. He then on took a gap year and travelled around until he ended up is Los Angeles. This is where he began to work as an assistant for a
