Rotary Efforts Recognized

Congratulations to Franklin Rotary Club for earning recognition from the Rotary district and THANK YOU for all the wonderful work you do four our com-munity! The Chamber is proud to work closely with Rotary, and Jodi is looking forward to becoming presi-dent of the Franklin Rotary Club in July!

Director’s Report Highmark Class Held The Chamber helped

sponsor an event in May to inform attendees about the changes on the hori-zon for those with High-mark insurance. The event was held at the Franklin Industrial and Commer-cial Development Author-ity, and was well attended by members of the com-munity.

Caps, gowns, and diplomas - it’s time!!! Gradua-tion season is upon us, and many of those cute, little kids we knew, or in my case - raised, are suddenly adults entering a whole, new world. Many aren't really sure this is what they signed up for; some are going to college; some are going to serve our Country - God bless each of you; and some are joining us in the work world. No matter what they choose to do, they are our future.

To the graduates - CONGRATULATIONS! It took a lot of work to get to where you are. Hold your heads high, move forward in perseverance to-ward the next goal. Take time to reflect on the foot-print that has gotten you to graduation day and take time to dream about where the next footprint will lead you.

To our members - I would like to encourage each of you to reach out to one of these young adults. If you don't know one, someone you know does. Maybe they could come to your office for a day; maybe you could buy them lunch and share some life experience with them; maybe you could take them golfing - we all know what an important skill this can be down the road; or maybe you could just make it known that you care and that you are excited about what the world looks like through their eyes and that you will be available if you can help them. And, if none of this works in your situation, always remem-ber to keep your mind open. These graduates have a lot to offer to our communities, and I want to be sure that we share in their excitement.

To all of the graduates and to those who helped them achieve this goal - CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done. On behalf of the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and staff - best wishes for a successful future!

July Newsletter Deadline

Make sure you send us your events, news and

to be included in our July newsletter.

Reflect on Your Business Personality By Holly Gibbons, Gibbons Business Solutions What is your business culture? It’s the personal-

ity of your company (whether that’s online, provid-ing a service, or in a storefront) and part of your brand. What do your employees and customers ex-perience with your business? How does it feel to be a part of what you do? Are you more formal or creative? Are you specialized or eclectic? Is your business fast-paced or relaxed? What sets you apart from your competitors?

Now ask yourself, how does your social media marketing reflect your business culture? In all of your marketing, you're attempting to establish a connection with your customers. Relationships are based on personalities. If someone has never visited your business, can they get an accurate image about your culture from what and how you are marketing?

It may be helpful to choose five words that re-flect your business personality. These are the things you hope your employees and customers see, feel, and experience. Then look at your marketing efforts to assess how these are reflected. This exercise can also help you focus on building your desired busi-ness culture. Share them with your staff and col-laborate on building that part of your brand.

Gibbons Business Solutions will be taking the summer off from the Social Media Discussion Group held monthly at the Chamber. Watch for announcements of the group reconvening in the fall!

The Franklin Area Chamber proudly sponsored the 2019 Fluid Power Challenge Day at Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department presented by Komatsu on May 14.

Seventeen 4-person teams of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from 10 local school districts spent six weeks at their home school designing and pro-totyping a wooden model to move a wooden dowel around a points board. For the competition, they used their self-designed portfolios to re-build their models from scratch in about 4 hours. Their mod-els incorporated syringes and tubing to simulate hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders.

Points were earned during a 2-minute timed com-petition, working safely, working effectively as a team, the design of their machine, answering specific in-terview questions and creating the portfolio which detailed the design and build process of their model.

Trophies were awarded in 6 different catego-ries, with the grand champion (highest scoring) team winning a $250 Amazon gift card for their school, an education license of Automation Stu-dio™ (hydraulic design software including 2 hours of online training, 1 year of maintenance & techni-cal support, donated by Famic Technologies Inc) and several sweatshirts donated by a sponsor.

Competition Champion -Titusville Middle School, Team 2; Interview Champion - Grove City Christian Academy, Team Wacco’s; Machine De-sign Champion -Titusville Middle School, Team 2; Portfolio Champion - Grove City Christian Acad-emy, Team Wacco’s; Teamwork Champion -Oil City Middle School, Team 1; Grand Prize Cham-pion – Grove City Christian Academy, Team Wacco’s.

Klapec Trucking Co of

Reno is celebrating 70 years

of reliable transportation ser-

vice to the local community.

From the humble days of

18-year-old Bert Klapec and

a single dump truck hauling

coal and gravel locally, to a

dazzling fleet of modern trac-

tor trailers equipped with to-

day’s most advanced technol-

ogy serving the US, Canada,

and Mexico...times certainly

have changed!

The family business has continued to operate with

Bert’s daughter Cindy Urban at the helm, and today

Bert’s grandchildren, Greg, Tracy, Marc, Natalie, and

Bridget are helping to lead Klapec Trucking in various

roles. KTC boasts a force of 80 trucks, 175 trailers,

and employs over 100 people from all surrounding

communities.

KTC provides service to the local industrial com-

munity with outbound shipments of produced and

processed goods, and transports inbound raw materi-

als into the area’s manufacturers as well. From flatbed

and van freight to specialty cargo and over-

dimensional loads, KTC does it all, and they do it

safely! For over 14 years, they have consistently earned

multiple safety awards from the Pennsylvania Motor

Truck Association (PMTA) as well as from insurance

carrier, Great West. KTC earned the Presidential Tro-

phy from PMTA in 2011 for being the safest carrier in

PA, and they have won awards from customers for

safe, on-time deliveries.

“The key to our longevity is very simple” says

Greg Lander, Vice-President, “We do what we say we

are going to do. When a customer asks us to provide a

service for them, no matter

how complex, our team

will do whatever is neces-

sary to make sure that cus-

tomer is completely satis-

fied. Our reputation has

been built on that simple

principle since my Grand-

father Bert started this

business 70 years ago, and

we continue to maintain

that philosophy to this

day.”

KTC continues to be one

of the area’s most recognizable businesses - who hasn’t

seen those bright blue trucks during parades in Frank-

lin and Oil City?? - and consistently reinvests profits

into the company and the community at large.

Company-wide expansion will continue into 2019.

They have already added a newly paved additional

truck parking area, easing the vast space required for

ongoing tractor and trailer equipment growth. The

new lot has seen continual improvements over the last

year with even more updates planned for 2019 includ-

ing the recent paving of the main terminal. Expan-

sions will continue with the doubling of office space in

a recently renovated area providing additional room

for an increased staff.

Congratulations on your continued success! Here’s

to another 70 years!
