The Spotsylvania Middle School Citizenship Award is given to students whose contributions to our SMS

community are recognized through positive attitudes and genuine support of their fellow students. These students have

LIBRARY

BOOK CHECKOUT

The last day for book checkout will be Thursday, April 18th

All library books will be due no later than Friday, May 10th.

During SOL testing we are closed if tests are being administered in the library that day. HOWEVER, we are always open during homeroom. Many students claim they can never return their overdue library books while testing, but this is not true. If the student arrives too late for homeroom, they can always leave their book in the library mailbox or give them to the office aide. Overdue notices will be sent out more often as we near the end of school so students can keep up with their books and debts. Remember, elementary debts are still on your child's account. These do not go away! Several fun events are planned for the end of the year, but your child may not be able to participate if they have debts. Don’t wait until the last minute to take care of them – library, cafeteria, gym, and textbooks. Have your child check their account on Destiny. It will show overdue books and ALL fines, not just the library.

Café Book (7th & 8th grade) will end the program by voting for their favorite book and enjoying a field trip and pizza at the Snow Library in May. Permission slips will be sent home soon. Summer reading is important to prevent a slide in reading level. The suggested summer reading lists will be posted on our website before the end of school. This will include the books for our in-house reading program, Spotsy Reads. The public library often has a summer reading program that is lots of fun and gives incentives for reading.

Yearbooks can be purchased for $35 in the

Library during homeroom. You still have

time to reserve your copy before they

arrive. After April 18th, you may

purchase a yearbook with cash only.

No checks will be accepted.

Students must have new medication orders at the

beginning of each new school year.

3:00pm on May 24th.

Medication can not be sent home with the student.

Spring Pictures

Pictures will be taken on April 2nd & 3rd.

Spring portraits will be sent home to be

previewed. You need to return them or pay

for the portraits once you have decided. They

can be paid for online using a credit card—

Students must bring in the confirmation

number for the order to be removed from the

debt list. Spring portraits can also be

purchased at school.

Field Day will be on

Friday, May 17th.

SMS CHORUS NEWS

Chorus State Assessment

Congratulations to the 6th Grade Chorus on an impressive first outing. The 6th Grade Chorus received a Superior (I) rating from one judge and two Excellent (II) ratings from the others. This ended with an overall Excellent (II) rating for the event. 7th and 8th graders received a Superior (I) rating from all three judges for a unanimously Superior (I) rating. Congratulations!

**************************** Congratulations to the 8th grade band for receiving a rating of Excellent and the 7th grade band for receiving a rating of Superior at the VBODA State Band Assessments held at Massaponax High School on March 19th and 20th. All students will receive medals for their accomplishment.

Bulldog Families,

It is hard to believe that the school year is winding down. The PTO would like to express our

gratitude for your support this year. Because of all your support, we have had a very successful

year. Thank you for your time as volunteers and donations and for always being there to support

us. We couldn’t have done any of it without you. Let’s recap some of the awesome things that

we were able to accomplish:

Fall Fundraiser- WOW! The kids (and parents too!) did a fantastic job raising

money for our school! Thank you for your participation! We look forward to another

successful fundraiser this fall for our returning students!

Spaghetti Dinner- What a great night of fellowship for our families and staff. Thank

to those of you who came out and enjoyed dinner!

Spirit Nights- What an easy way to support our school! Thank you to all that took

the time to come out and support SMS! Don’t forget to look for the details on our

mid-summer spirit nights!

Bulldog Bingo- Congratulations to everyone that won! We had a night full of fun,

laughter and prizes. Hope to see you all next year!

As always, we are looking forward to the Student vs. Staff Basketball Game- my

favorite event of the year! Mr. Byrd would like to remind everyone that the staff are

the returning champions…AGAIN! Always a fun event for everyone!

I speak for everyone on the PTO board when I say we truly love SMS and enjoy organizing all

these events throughout the year. Again, thank you for your support, we couldn’t do it without

you!

And before we close, we want to give a special THANK YOU to Mrs. Amy Christopher. Amy

has served as treasurer for the last, how many years?! She also has stepped in and served where

ever there was a PTO need. Amy has been a driving force in the success of the SMS PTO. You

will be missed!
