o “Broadway” comes from the street, Broadway, which is the longest street in New York. It begins from downtown Manhattan to the Bronx.
o Broadway theatre is often considered as the highest professional form of theatre in the United States.
o Broadway Theatre, refers to a theatrical performance staged (usually a play or musical).
o The performance presented in one of the 40 large professional theatres with 500 seats or more.

• It was designed by architect Eugene De Rosa for Benjamin S.Moss, it opened as B.S. Moss's Colony Theatre on Christmas Day 1924.
• On November 18, 1928 the first Mickey Mouse cartoon from Walt Disney was released to the public.
• It became a legitimate theater house simply called Broadway Theatre on December 8, 1930 .
• It was renovated extensively in 1956 and 1986.
• The large stage (nearly sixty feet deep) and seating capacity (1,761) has made it a popular theatre for musicals throughout the years.

o There are 40 Broadway theatres in use in New York City.o The full price show tickets generally range from
approximately $20 to $145.o Many Broadway theatres also offer special student rates,
same-day “rush” tickets and standing-room tickets to help ensure people to have the opportunity to see Broadway shows.
o Nowadays some theatergoers prefer the more experimental, challenging and intimate performances possible in smaller theatres, which are referred to as Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway (some of the theatres located on or near Broadway).
