Think about it: Are you using the armor that God has given to fight against the enemy? Memory Verse- II Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Your Thoughts In order to stand a chance in this spiritual battle we must put on the whole armor of God. Each piece is essential in standing against the wiles of the Devil and his kingdom. The first piece of armor is the belt of truth. Jesus Christ is the embodiment of this truth. The Bible reveals and communicates to us what this truth is. Putting on the belt of truth means we have called upon Jesus Christ to save us. Wearing and using this belt means that you know the truth. It means you have an in-depth knowledge of the scriptures, you know the mind of the Lord, and are filled with the Holy Spirit. You must know truth in order to use truth. This piece of armor is the foundation for every other piece of armor. The truth allows you to weigh everything in life by it. Read Ephesians 6:10-20. We come now to the second piece of the armor, the breastplate of righteousness. This is another essential piece of defensive armor. Do you desire to stand against the enemy? You must have a working knowledge of each piece of armor. You must wake up each day armed and ready for battle. 6 The Breastplate of Righteousness THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN Realize That God Loves You. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). How well do you know the truth? Does the truth govern every area of your life?

Your Thoughts

Think about it:

Wearing the breastplate is actually living out the truth in

our lives.

Think About it:

We are not commanded to imitate God’s righteousness.

The Protection for the Heart The Bible says in verse fourteen, “and having on the breastplate of righteousness”. Having on means to enter into, to put on, or to place on like a shirt. You have to put this piece on yourself. No one else can do it for you. The breastplate is a covering for the front of the body from the neck to the waist. It would go over the head resting on the shoulders covering in the chest. There is a strong relationship between the belt of truth and the breastplate. The breastplate was attached to the belt of truth. The truth is what holds our righteousness in place because the truth governs what righteousness is. Wearing the breastplate is actually living out the truth in our lives. This is a choice we each make each and everyday.

This piece of armor is vitally important because it protects the most vulnerable area of the body, the heart and lungs. Just one hit in this area could be a fatal hit. Satan is looking for our hearts. This is the one area he desires to draw away and rule.

Jeremiah 17:9 gives us a description of our heart. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it.” We are born with a bad heart. Read Romans 3:9-12. We do what we do because of who we are. There are some obvious signs that a person has a bad heart. Read Matthew 15:18-20 and I Corinthians 6:9-11. The outward signs we see from a bad heart are unrighteous behaviors lived out in life. Satan desires to corrupt our hearts so we will show ugly passions and desires instead of righteousness.

“Having Done All to Stand” Lesson 6

God does not ask us to imitate His righteousness. It would be impossible to do. The pharisees and religious people try to imitate it. Following a list of do’s and don’ts is not righteousness. Righteousness comes from within. God gives a bel iever His righteousness at salvation. Read I Corinthians 1:30-31 and II Corinthians 5:21. We are given the Holy Spirit to live in us and to reproduce His righteousness in and through us. He supplies us with a new heart capable of living righteously. What does it look like for you to wear this piece of armor? You are a believer who knows the truth and you live every aspect of your life by what that truth says. You practice what the Bible teaches in all areas. You put on the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! You are filled with the Spirit allowing Him to govern you life and actions. You have no known and unconfessed sin in your heart.

The Condition of the Heart

You and I are born with a bad heart that is deceitful and wicked above all things. Proverbs 4:23 says, “keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Protecting our heart is absolutely essential in winning this battle. We are to protect our bad heart with righteousness. This is the character or quality of being just or right. Being righteous is conformity of life to all that God commands or appoints through His Word. How are we to put on something we do not have ourselves? The Supplying of a New Heart
