The Book of Exodusy Introduction

The book of Exodus is about God's great deliverance of 

Israel from Egypt and His meeting with them at Mt.Sinai. The book shows how God Redeemed theChildren of Israel from the hands of slavery . Gavethem the law in order to ensure that his people would

be set apart from the world.

y 4 Gadflies over all Egypt except Goshen where Israel dwelt.No god was able to prevent it-not even Ptah, Egypt's creatorof the universe.

y 5 Pestilence on livestock. The sacred cow-goddess Hathornor Apis the bull could prevent this plague

10 Plagues versus the 10 godsy 6 Boils. Healer deities Thoth, Isis, and Ptah were rendered

helpless.

y 7 Thunder and hail. Exposed the impotence of Reshpu,andThoth, gods of rain and lightening and thunder

y 8 Locusts. This was a blow to protector of crops ,thefertility-god Min.

y 9 Three days of darkness. Ra, the preeminent sun-god, and

Horus,a sun- god, disgracedy 10 Death of the firstborn including Pharaoh's, who was

considered to be a god incarnate. Ra (Amon-Ra), sun-godrepresented as a ram, was unable to stop it nor to savehimself.
