T his month is bittersweet as we say goodbye to one beloved priest and pastor and welcome another at Christ Church. I am sad to say goodbye to Harriette, who has been such a good friend, mentor, and colleague. She will be moving close to her family in Atlanta, where she will be serving as chaplain at St. Anne’s Terrace. Most of all, I will remember Harriette as a wonderful pastor, not only to her parishioners but to me as well. Of her many gifts for ministry I have most admired Harriette’s way of expressing sincere care and compassion for everyone she comes across. Serving with her for the past two and a half years has been a wonderful growth-filled experience, and I will greatly miss her. As we say goodbye to Harriette with heavy hearts, we also rejoice as we welcome Bryan Hinson as our Curate. Bryan will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 20 at 2:00 at the Cathedral of St. Phillip in Atlanta. A bus will leave from Christ Church for the ordination, and if you would like to reserve a seat, please let the church office know. The role of Christ Church in Bryan’s ordination is important. He is being ordained as a priest in God’s Church, and that is because he has been called to serve at our parish. I hope you will plan on joining us that afternoon. The Book of Common Prayer tells us what the ministry of a priest is: “As a priest it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ…You are to preach, to declare God’s forgiveness to penitent sinners, to pronounce God’s blessing, to share in the administration of Holy Baptism and in the celebration of the mysteries of Christ’s Body and Blood…” To understand the role of a priest it is helpful to contrast it with that of a deacon. A deacon is charged with bringing the world to the church and the church to the world. A priest is to work with the church and give its people what they need to be the Body of Christ to the world and to each other. So mark your calendars, and please plan to be with us for this very important event – not only in Bryan’s life, but also in the life of Christ Church. And please join with me as we lift up both Harriette and Bryan in our prayers and wish them God’s blessings as they move into new adventures and ministries as pastors and priests. Beginning June 7th we will meet every week at 9:45 to rehearse for the 10:30 service. There will be no mid-week rehearsals during the summer. We want to make this a multi-generational choir, so singers of all ages are invited to join us. We also would be very happy to see former choir members. Let’s all join together and sing praise to God! If you are interested in singing with the choir, please contact Jack Mitchener ([email protected]) for more information. CALLING ALL INSTRUMENTALISTS! Episcopal Youth Community

A Celebration of Friends, Faith and Personal Impact!

All students in grades 6-12 (rising) along with recent high school graduates are invited to Youth Week 2015! Monday-Friday, June 22-26, the Christ Church EYC will join other youth ministries in the Macon area for an amazing week of faith, friends, community and personal impact!

Here’s what will happen….We’ll meet at Mercer University’s Religious Life Cen-ter each morning at 11:00 (except Friday). First come games and a worship expe-rience followed by lunch. Then, the afternoon activities begin. Monday, we’re heading to a Paintball facility. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll meet new friends at Southside Community Church and work together on service and art projects in Lynmore Estates. We end the week on Friday with a day at Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta!

Cost is only $50 and includes lunch Monday-Thursday, a Youth Week tee shirt, activities, supplies and more. Join us for all three days of community service - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - and your entrance fee to Wild Adventures will be covered (you’ll only need money for snacks and drinks); otherwise, plan to pay $30 for admission to the park.

This is a great way to connect with friends, meet new people, and help our com-munity all at the same time. Bring your friends… all are welcome!

By the way, this is a great way to earn Community Service Hours for school!

Your prayers and presence are requested.

One of the most faithful members of the Christ Church Choir in the history of our parish has decided to retire. Peter Solomon has served as an important bass in the choir for more than 50 years. He was baptized at Christ church in about 1937 and served as an acolyte during high school. He returned to Macon in 1962 after attending Georgia Tech and serving in the Army. He joined the Christ Church Choir in 1964 and has served continuously since. In addition, he has served two terms on the vestry, once as Junior Warden and then as Senior Warden in his second term. He has served several times on pledge campaign committees as well as capital fund campaigns. He served on the Rector Search Com-mittee in the early 1990s.

Peter has the gift of a very low singing voice. He was the only person who could hit the lowest note of a very special anthem the choir sang during communion on Easter Day: Alleluia by Randall Thompson. Peter’s low “Ds” made it possible for the choir to tune better and made the performance much more effective. He pro-vided the foundation and steady support that the choir desperately needed. We literally could not have done it without you, Peter! Peter’s voice is as low as some of the low pipes on an organ. Losing Peter’s voice means we will no longer have one of our most important ranks of pipes! You will be sorely missed, Peter.

Christ Church thanks you, Peter, for all you have done for our parish. Your com-mitment and dedication are greatly appreciated. No one in the choir wants to accept that you are retiring, so we will still look forward to occasionally seeing you in the loft. You will always be welcome to come up whenever you wish.

Thank you, Peter. Well done, good and faithful servant!
