Who are The Blue Riders?

Expressionism inspired a group of artists to join together for similar interest in art and called themselves The Blue Riders. They started out in Munich. The group was created after the reject of Wassily Kandinsky’s painting.

The group had a diverse group of members but they shared common ideals. One of those ideals was expressing spiritually through art. They also promoted modern art.

Another common ideal was the interest in alternative art forms. The Blue Riders centered around Wassily Kandinsky, who is thought as the dominant figure of this group.

The Blue Riders published an almanac called “Der Blaue Reiter” in the early 1912 and participated in two art exhibitions in 1911 and 1912.

The Blue Riders movement lasted from 1911-1914. The group disbanded after the Great War occurred. Franz Marc was killed and the group separated. However, Die Blaue Vier (The Blue Four) was formed in 1924 right after the disbandment of the Blue Riders. Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Alexej von Jawlensky, and Lyonel Feininger (some of The Blue Riders members) were the members of The Blue Four. The Bauhaus influenced The Blue Four

The members continued to share similar ideals and participate in exhibitions. They also believed that line, color, and material conveyed messages in their art better. The artists’ live changed and influenced many parts of modern art. One of those influences has been in the fashion industry. Many pieces of clothing had been designed by inspiration from art piece from The Blue Four.

Presenting: The Blue Four

Alexej von Jawlensky, Russian painter, was born in 1864. Before he found out his true passion for painting, he was on his way to becoming a cadet. His three main themes were: still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. Jawlensky died in 1941.Wassily Kandinsky was the

main focus around The Blue Riders. He had strong influences in the art world. Kandinsky found himself very interested in the Bauhaus and formed The Blue Four. He died in 1944.

Out of the Blue Four, Paul

Klee seems to be the favorite artist for fashion designers. He is known for his childlike perspective at times and spidery hieroglyph-like symbols style. Along with Kandinsky, he helped teach color mixing and theory later in his life. He died in 1940.

Lyonel Feininger was born is 1871. He attended many art schools and exhibitions. Cubism played an important part in his style. His style was unique because he painted colorful prismatic planes that penetrated each other. He also taught panting and graphic art at the Bauhaus. Feininger is known to be a pioneer of the comic strip. He died in New York in 1956.

A&A Clothing Line: Inspired by The Blue Riders

A&A is the newest, hottest clothing line in the fashion industry. This clothing line was designed by Amber Perez and Alejandra Vazquez. These two designers put together outfits that resemble paintings by The Blue Riders and The Blue Four.

A&A allowed us to stop by their photo shoot and look at their new Spring Collection. It was a real treat heading out to the photo shoot because A&A tried really hard to make sure the outfits resembled the paintings and did a great job!
