17 Years of Billy Love!Happy Anniversary! It was this same time 17 years ago that the idea hit me. We were the last wave to move to Nashville from California. A bunch of us were al-ready here. Jim Lauderdale, Lucinda & Rosie, Buddy & Julie, Jeffrey Steele, Redd Volkaert, Dale Watson and more. We were all a part of the LA/Ronnie Mack Barndance/ Supernatural/Cosmic Cowboy/ Cali-fornia Country Music scene. Some of us had Nashville record deals like Dwight Yoakam, The Desert Rose Band, and Highway 101. We all hung out and played at The Palomino Club on Lankershim Blvd. ev-ery Tuesday night. Now everyone was living in Music City, USA.

One of my favorite guitar players had also moved to Twang Town & was playing with Dwight, Rosie, John Prine and The Divinyls. His name

was Duane Jarvis. DJ took my call on that fateful day in 1996 and after an hour-long discussion, it was decided. We were going to start a Nashville Barndance every Tuesday night at The Sutler on Franklin Rd.That first night was quite memorable. We chose The Sutler because my drums were already set-up from our regular Monday night gig with Walter Hyatt & King Tears. Johnny Potts said, ”Let’s try it for a few weeks and see how it goes.” Walter did sound and played the first show. DJ played too. Both Walter & DJ are no longer with us and are dearly missed. Kristi Rose and Fats Kaplin played and Jim Lauderdale showed everyone how it was supposed to be done.

Ronnie Mack’s famous line, “Now put that on the radioooo!” was the rallying point for my sister Nancy Block. In just 3 months she made the deal for us to broadcast LIVE from The Sutler on Lightning 100. How ironic we changed the name to Roots Revival. In just a few years we had our own weekly TV show on CMT. It has been the most remarkable and fun thing to create, host and produce, this weekly gath-ering of creative misfits, dreamers, and poets. Rocky Block says he’d like to take over for his dad. While not taking over just yet, Rocky Block made his solo debut performance on our show 15 years after he was brought into this world.

Join us this Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 as we welcome back Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale, Kristi Rose & Fats Kaplin with Sam Hawksley, Gareth Dunlop & our 7pm Tribute to Walter Hyatt, Duane Jarvis & Buck Jones with Taylor Hyatt, Jon Byrd, Phil Lee & Buddy Mondlock and more. The 17th Anni-versary show begins with a group that is ushering in The New Americana movement in Nashville, The Cumberland Collective, at 6pm. Arrive early! Stay late! Can’t wait to share this great NEW music with you! Watch the live webcast at www.billyblock.com. Specials thanks to John Grady (our first sponsor) Ralph Murphy (our champion at ASCAP) Jody Wil-liams and the BMI team, Ellen Jones & Tim Fink and all at SESAC, Eddie Schwartz for bringing SO-CAN to the party, and Music Row titans Luke Lewis, Tony Brown, Tim DuBois, Mike Dungan, Scott Borchetta & Jeff Tuerff at Curb, and all who have supported our efforts along the way. Special thanks to Adam Dalton and the NTS ProMedia team, Mike Newman, and Lee Totten at Bubble Up Interac-tive for upgrading www.billyblock.com, Captain John at Trader Joe’s Green Hills, and Aimee Johns at Flavour Boutique. Thanks to the over 5000 bands and artists who have graced our many stages over the years, and to the Nashville music community that continues to discover exceptional new talent from our own backyard and across the global musical landscape every Tuesday night at The Mercy Lounge and High Watt. Here’s to many more memorable Tuesday nights.

Sam Hawksley is unquestionably one of Australian music’s best-kept secrets. If you’ve never heard of him before, prepare yourself for some-thing very special and unique as this record

is set to change everything. A gifted guitar-ist and gun-for-hire, Sam has performed and recorded with a variable who’s-who of the Australian music scene, a list that includes the likes of The Whitlams, John Farnham, Adam Brand, Wendy Matthews, Vanessa Amorosi, Richard Clapton, and many, many more. Sam Hawksley’s new self-titled album is a distinc-tive and diverse collection of lilting songs, immediate and regularly intimate, occasion-ally heart-broken but more often joyous and full of life. It’s an uplifting showcase of Sam’s beautiful and gentle songwriting approach, delivered in his always soothing vocal style and backed by world-class musicianship.

At first glance, Hampshire, England and Nashville,Tennessee are worlds apart. But the two worlds magically collide in the musical renderings of Lizzy and Catherine Ward-Thomas. Raised on an English farm south of London, the eighteen-year-old fraternal twins are equally at home racing down ski slopes, riding horses, or simply taking their dog, Betty, for a walk through the English countryside. Drawing on their own life experienc-es and the experiences of those close to them, Lizzy and Catherine have developed a sense for crafting songs that cuts to the heart of the matter and doesn’t sugar coat dif-ficulties or avoid topics considered “taboo”. Making the journey to Nashville, Tennessee, the twins entered the studio under the direction of Blazier and Rodriguez, and-soon found themselvds recording with some of Nash-ville’s most prominent session players. Their music is a hybrid of Country and Rock, blending lush harmonies with captivating lyrical content.

For twenty-seven-year-old Kris Whipple,

songwriting is a way to tell his story and express him-self through music. Raised in West Detroit, Kris cuts hair for a living, but says his vocation is “loving my wife, loving my job, loving my family, and opening my

heart.” He admits that he is “still learning”, but looks for-ward to discovering life through the “journey we are all on” and coming to know the unknowable future. Rather than spending energy trying to predict what might hap-pen in the future, Kris prefers to spend his time appreci-ating the moment, and being thankful.

She is evolving into a talented Country/Pop singer-songwriter who plays both the guitar and keyboard. With poise and ma-turity beyond her years, Lizzie’s vibrant personal-ity shines on stage with her undeniably amazing stage presence. Lizzie’s debut single, “Butterfly,” is

After moving to Nashville, singer-song-writer and founding member of the LA duo, The Darlins, Jude Toy, asked singer-songwriter and Nashville native, Er-inn Bates, if she wanted

to write and perform together around town. From the first co-write, they knew they had something special. Jude’s rockin’ acoustic guitar and harmo-nies blended with Erinn’s bluegrass-tinged lead vocals and mandolin. Several months later, The Darlins were reborn. The dup have opened for sev-eral Country stars and performed in the Music City Showcase, Alabama Line. Their rootsy, harmony-rich sound, along with their songwriting, has tak-en them to venues like Music City Roots and The Bluebird Café and has garnered their songs several placements on network television.

Vinny and his band Trailor Choir were

signed to country super-star Toby Keith’s record label Show-dog Univer-sal in june of 2007 and spent the next 3 years opening shows for Toby.

The band got a jump start when Toby featured their song “Off the Hillbilly Hook” in his movie Beer for My Horses, and their song “Rockin’ the Beergut” landed in the top 30 on the Billboard Country Mu-sic Chart. The song sold over half a million down-loaded copies, and its music video made it into the top ten on CMT and was nominated for CMT video of year. Vinny has written 3 songs that have landed in the Billboard Top 40, but he may be most well known as the star of NBC’s hit reality show The Big-gest Loser, where he made it to the top four. Now with a new lease on life, Vinny is primed and ready to begin his solo career.
