These are four powerful letters found on backpacks, bracelets, necklaces, coffee mugs, and water bottles. Many of us remember the popular teenage moment amongst Christian youth in 1990 when they wore bracelets bearing the initials WWJD. It is believed the origin began with our evangelical Protestant preachers as they began to examine the discrepancy between those with money and the poor. They called upon their congregations to embrace the life of Christ. As Christians we believe we are called to follow Jesus Christ through our thoughts, words, and actions. In 1 Timothy we read, “Do not let anyone look down upon you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” During the week of July 24–28, we invite children ages 3–100 to participate in our summer Bible Camp and experience our theme: What Would Jesus Do? At an age appropriate level our three- and four-year-olds experience all the various camp ‘stations’ as their older brothers and sisters. They are taught by our loving nursery staff and trained volunteers. Parishioner Mary Andert encourages all grandparents to participate and says, “It was so cool to see my grandson participate in the activities and to grow in the love of God! Parents and grandparents, sign your children and grandchildren up, and then volunteer and grow in your own faith as your children grow in theirs.” Adults grow in their relationship with God and each other throughout the week of camp. High school youth and adults are invited to be crew leaders. Training, leader manual, continual support, plus delicious morning hospitality, is provided. This important role mentors the kids throughout the week and leads the campers to each activity. If music, games, snacks, or theatre are your passions, we’ve also got great opportunities for you. No experience is required! Come join others who share similar passions. All of our adult shared ministers are required to have completion of a background check, code of conduct, and attendance at a Virtus session. Pax Christi will be offering this training throughout the summer. Our camp experience incorporates the values of our parish — incredible hospitality, deep prayer, life-long faith formation, and an action call for justice. We seek an answer to the question: What would Jesus do? We are called to love, serve, and help one another. This year we will be sharing our Random Acts of Kindness and outreach projects with local nursing homes, YouthLink, the CAP agency, and PROP. Scripture comes to life with our fabulous drama team. Youth grade six and older are invited to participate in our drama camp. Service, outreach, leadership-training, and team-building are all part of the drama camp experience. Speaking parts, singing, musicians, and stage crew are needed. We’ll celebrate Christmas in July and learn that Jesus is the greatest gift of all! We’ll watch the first miracle take place at the Wedding at Cana and learn that Jesus is truly all we need. We’ll feel the presence of God during the ‘storms’ of our lives and experience the first ‘happy meal.’ Come relive your childhood memories of camp! Come for the faith and stay for the fun! You are invited to join our experience by registering online at www.paxchristi.com/eventregistration. Forms are also available in the parish office. We need campers and shared ministers who are ready for the BEST WEEK OF THE SUMMER! Come share your talents with us! Questions? Contact Renee Dignan, [email protected]. Come find your own answer to the question, “What Would Jesus Do?”
