Day 2

9:00 am - You will be met this morning by your guide and begin your exploration of Napa wine

country

Our first stop will be at Silver Oak Cellars for a Private tour and tasting

In the early 1970s, Silver Oak Cellars emerged as a dream tied to an intrepid idea. The founders—Ray Duncan,

an entrepreneur with a sense of adventure, and Justin Meyer, a former winemaker with Christian Brothers—

dared to devote every effort toward the pursuit of a single wine, Cabernet Sauvignon. What’s more, they

resolved to create a wine with a style all its own, not another hard, tannic red wine requiring years of aging to

enjoy, but a wine of fully developed flavors and a velvety soft texture on the day it is released.

At every opportunity they have reaffirmed their commitment to excellence by purchasing and improving new

vineyards, by fully dedicating each one of their two estates to make just one wine, and by developing a

partnership with a family-run Missouri cooperage to ensure the long-term availability of first-rate American

oak barrels.

The elegance and finesse of their wines have attracted as zealous a circle of customers as any winery can boast,

and we are truly grateful for their allegiance, although they will never relax in their pursuit of perfection.

Lunch today will be at the best local pizzeria in Town

- Pizzeria Tra Vigne is the brainchild of Anthony

“Nash” Cognetti, Executive Chef. It is Napa Valley’s

favorite, local casual dining restaurant. The pizzeria

serves a large variety of classic and specialty brick

oven baked pizzas, authentic pasta dishes, fresh

salads and delicious gelato. The relaxed

atmosphere, personable service and outstanding

food, wine and beverage menus make Pizzeria Tra

Vigne a favorite restaurant for Napa Valley vintners and families alike.

After lunch we will continue to Domaine Carneros where we will enjoy a private tasting of three of their

trademark sparkling wines and two Pinot Noirs

In the heart of the Carneros appellation stands the majestic chateau which houses Domaine Carneros winery.

Claude Taittinger, president of Champagne Taittinger, traveled in the Carneros as a young man and

recognized the potential of this beautiful area to produce world class sparkling wines. With the completion of

Domaine Carneros in 1989, his dream of a California prestige winery became a reality. Domaine Carneros stands

as testimony to Champagne Taittinger's devotion to the creation of fine sparkling wines, and is considered

the landmark of the region.

Domaine Carneros is a landmark of the Carneros wine region and offers a spectacular setting for private events.

The Taittinger mark of elegance is present in the 18th century styling of our classic French chateau. Guests

are greeted by the grand stairway adorned with trickling fountains and lined with manicured hedges. The stone

terrace, which frames the winery, is an incredible backdrop for receptions providing a commanding view of the

beautiful Carneros countryside. Marble floors and tall French doors in the foyer and main salon offer a stately

setting for dinners or receptions.

Our last visit of the day is at Fontanella Family Winery we have chosen Fontanella for our last visit of the day

because it sits in contrast to the size and history of our other two visits of the day but holds the same potential

for greatness!

Fontanella Family Winery was a dream in the making since the day Jeff Fontanella, owner and winemaker, had

decided to abandon his aspirations of medical school to instead pursue a career in winemaking.

In the Spring of 2000, after Jeff had cut his teeth in the cellars of Opus One and ZD he met his future wife at a

Jimmy Buffett concert. Armed with a magnum of ZD Chardonnay, Jeff charmed his way into the heart of an

aspiring young attorney who eventually would be his partner in life and business. In 2003, Jeff and Karen

married and started a journey toward what would become Fontanella Family Winery. The winery, now in its

fifth year of operation, processes approximately 200 tons of grapes each year for the Fontanella brand and

several of Jeff Fontanella’s consulting clients. The Fontanella Family Winery label produces approximately 3,000

cases annually, consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Chardonnay. The winery and brand are truly a

passion for Jeff and Karen, and they hope that you feel their commitment in every bottle you open of Fontanella.

As you can see Fontanella winery was directly affected by the earthquake in August 2014 we will learn how Jeff

and Karen turned a disaster around and came up with a clever way to make up for some lost ground. We will

enjoy a private tasting as well as a barrel tasting.

Dinner this evening is on your own we will assist in making a reservation for you at a local restaurant.

Our next stop is Buena Vista Winery the most historic winery in the regions here we will enjoy a tour,

tasting and lunch

Buena Vista Winery is the first winery in Sonoma county and was founded in 1857 by Agoston Haraszthy.

Haraszthy was unable to sustain the estate financially, and in 1863 financial support came by way of the Buena

Vista Vinicultural Society; a group of financiers led by San Francisco banker William Ralston. Within two

years of the society's founding, Buena Vista was producing 2 million gallons of wine a year. The success of

the budding wine industry in California led to wine prices dropping dramatically as expenses rose. In 1866

Haraszthy was forced to resign from his position of superintendent of the winery. During the 1870s the winery

would produce about 100,000 gallons of wine a year from approximately 500 acres of vineyards. Sparkling

wine was a popular seller. During the depression of 1873-77 the society was forced to liquidate its assets

and file for bankruptcy. The estate, in the 1880s, would become the home of businessman Robert C. Johnson.

Lunch - assorted sandwiches, salads and desert at the winery

If the schedule permits we will have some time in the afternoon to explore the Historic center of Sonoma to

visit the shops or the historic Sonoma mission.

Today we begin our journey with a visit and tasting at Cuvaison

Heart Of Carneros ~ Napa Valley

Cooled by fog from the San Pablo Bay, the rolling hills of this certified sustainable estate have

produced distinctive Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines for over 30 years. Dedicated to a philosophy

of producing vineyard-driven wines, Cuvaison employs block-by-block farming methods and a hand-

crafted vineyard-to-bottle winemaking approach. The resulting wines are balanced and complex,

showcasing the distinctive characteristics of this cool climate estate.

After a private tasting we then proceed to our final winery of the trip

Whetstone Winery - Whetstone sits on 2 acres, surrounded by beautiful Cedar and Oak trees. The

center piece of the property is a 19th Century French-style Chateau, designed by Hamden W. McIntyre built

in 1885 as part of Hedgeside Winery.

Hamden W. McIntyre, an expert in gravity-flow winery design is responsible for several local gravity-flow

wineries, including the impressive grandeur of: Inglenook, Greystone, Trefethen and Chateau Montelena--Napa

Valley landmarks that still endure. Michelle and Jamey Whetstone took over the estate in February 2011,

restoring the old stone distillery building into their tasting salon.

Jamie Whetstone started out his winemaking education at Turley Wine Cellars back in 1998 where learning

how to change the clutch on a tractor was more valued than knowledge of Bordeaux First Growths. He was

able to take a sabbatical one summer to work for the Seysses family at Domaine Dujac in Morey St Denis

which cemented his love for Pinot Noir. After returning from France he founded Whetstone in 2002 while still

apprenticing at Turley. In 2005 he finally left Turley and began to grow Whetstone on his own.

We will enjoy a private tasting and lunch at Whetstone you will have some time this afternoon for visit Historic
