REPORTS ROUND UP. SEPTEMBER 2017. OLD TIMER COMPETITION. 10 TH SEPTEMBER. The weather on the day was just ideal, but where were the pilots. It was disappointing to find only 3 pilots turned to compete on such a good flying day which was suburb for this type of event, warm with light northerly winds. For the last few months Brian Deason had resurrected a couple of his spare old time aircraft complete with radio and ready to fly for any club member who wished to have ago at this type of flying. Being a competition of part power and part gilding it has the best of both worlds but nobody, that's right, but nobody took up his offer. How disappointing especially when it was all care no responsibility. Being that there was only 3 pilots and no other members to help with timing, what could we do? One could be the timer and score keeper while the other two pilots flew, then change over to one other pilot to do timing while the other 2 flew, and so on, not great system but it worked. (L-R ) Brian Deason 2nd place. Stuart Sinclair 1st place. Les Davis 3rd place.

Stuart Sinclair was the best pilot scoring 4 straight max scores, while Brian Deason could only manage 3 max scores. Les Davis had 2 max scores before his aircraft clipped his leg on take-off and turned 180 degrees and ran into this tool box, ending his day. There is nobody to thank as we didn't have any time keepers, scorers or helpers, which is disappointing to say the least on the best flying day we've had in the last month. Picture by G. Barkla. Report and CD by Les Davis DEFIBRILLATOR COMING At last we are getting a defibrillator, it won’t be until early next year when it arrives but it is coming. Late last year I read in the local paper where quite a few sporting club's received government granted defibrillators, so I got on to our local member Marie Edwards and asked about applying for a defibrillator for our club, and a reply came back yes your request was quite good, and once the grants were open for 2017 we should apply online. Once a week I would login to the government site to check when the grants were open, all through January then February and again in March and at last the grants were open, so I then forwarded the government site on to our secretary Gary Schmedje and he filled all the necessary club details and reasons for a need of a defibrillator, and lodged the submission. In September we received a letter notifying us of a successful outcome, we are to be supplied a brand new defibrillator by the end of the year, and St. Johns Ambulance will be coming to train some of our club members, on how to operate this wonderful life saving equipment. By Les Davis

Fokkers This news clip came in from south of Kyneton, down Woodend way. Just read it any way you like.

Have you had this problem? Have you had this retract problem when that other retract leg won’t come down. Looks like birds have the same problem. It’s frustrating to say the least, but this bird has seemed to of landed safely. I hope you can do the same if you get in the same situation.

Another Odd Ball Engine. Side port glow plug, made by Duke Fox or Fox Engineering. Known as "Falcon 60" it was one style that never took off, although it may have performed correctly it was probably harder to manufacture so no one else copied this style. Also note it has 3 mounting holes in each engine lug. It is claimed to be a new in box engine, very interesting indeed, if only you knew about Duke Fox then maybe you wouldn't be surprized. Have you seen this magazine? Last month you read about the "need for speed" Mary Bruce and what she accomplished with motor bikes, speed boats, race cars and records she set, and of course her flight around the world back in 1930. Well the story I found came out of the "Peoples Friend" magazine which is published in Great Britain. It is purchased by a neighbour and shared around the neighbourhood block, and so I had not really known about the magazine nor about Mary Bruce until it was pointed out to me. I also did a bit of Google research and found out about this woman with the need for speed and her flight around the world. Beside is not the edition of Peoples Friend that the story came from about Mary Bruce, it’s just to show you what the cover of the mag looks like. It could be a magazine out of the early 1900's by the way it’s presented.

Book of All Fighters. Well it’s all about aircraft, not punch drunk men that punch the daylights out of each other. This book has been given to the club by Mal Fields, and he’s asked for it to be put in the club house for all club members to use for reference and information on all the fighter aircraft that the book has listed, and there’s heaps of them. The cover does say all fighter aircraft. Thanks Mal, I'm sure there will be quite a few lookers and it may settle a few arguments on what was or is on this or that particular aircraft. So have a look in the Club house for this wonderful book on all fighter aircraft.

Tune your Engine. At last I've found a true tuned pipe, no sure of the tune but a least it may sound like music to your ears.

New Aircraft Magazine Out. Last month we lost the Airborne Magazine. This month a new magazine is out, as you can see it’s called "Flat Out RC". Is it any good? Well only time will tell. This edition is mainly about drones and a large well detailed decathlon aircraft, not much else for me as a reader, but we need to wait until a couple more editions come out to see if it’s worthwhile I guess. If you have purchased a copy let us know what you think of it, good or ordinary.

This book of fighters is nearly two inches thick, it’s got lots of pictures and

specifications of many, many aircraft.

I am not sure about this engine. Is the carburettor feeding air into the crack instead of the piston?

Big Month of Action in October. On the 7th and 8th of October is the Ringmaster fly-a-thon, if we have any control line aircraft ready (it’s a worldwide event) Also on Sunday the 8th of October our Club Glider competition is on for Loops and Duration. Next is on Friday the 13th of October we have applied to be a part of the Seniors Week festival, organised by the Bendigo City Council (this one is an unknown quantity at this stage. We will wait and see how it pans out). Then on Sunday the 22nd of October it’s the RFDS fundraiser day (badges will be sold, please but one or two) and a free BBQ lunch along with Scale Flying of any size any type Scale Aircraft (or scale look alike) that you may have. And last is the Halloween Trick or Treat and Spitfire Day with the old farts on Friday the 27th of October (Bad Food - Good Aircraft) Green Light for Marong. Did you read in the Bendigo Weekly newspaper on Friday August 25th the following:- The State Government says its recent rezoning of more than 300 hectares of land at Marong, should help boost employment and economic development in the region. Planning Minister Richard Wayne has given the "Green Light to the Marong Business Park", paving the way for the City of Greater Bendigo to begin developing the jobs hub. The Marong Business Park is one of the city's top priorities. It's expected to generate up to 3000 jobs in the sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, research and development and service. The land is located 500 metres West of Marong and 16 Ks from Bendigo city centre. The government says it has got the planning right, striking the right balance between protecting nearby users of the land, and catering for future requirements of the area. An environmental significance overlay buffer will not be applied, after an independent panel found it was unnecessary to apply the overlay to the surrounding farming zone land. The planning scheme announcement means that the City of Greater Bendigo can now begin the next stage of development of the park.

You have to be Joking Always be polite to the ticket counter staff. A customer was really hassling an airline agent at the ticket counter, yelling and using foul language. However, the agent was polite, pleasant and smiled while the customer continued to abuse her. When the man finally left, the next person in line said to the agent, "Does that happen often? I can't believe how nice you were to him." The agent smiled and said, "No problem, I took care of it. He's going to Detroit. His bags are going to Bangkok."

Ringmaster control line aircraft nearly finished.

Have you ever been at the airport and hear someone on the loud speaker say - "Everybody must now get on the plane"? I would much rather get "in" the plane! Two Crocodiles were sitting at the side of the River. The smaller one turned to the bigger one and said, 'I can't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age, we were the same size as kids - I just don't get it.' 'Well,' said the big Croc, 'what have you been eating?' 'Politicians, same as you,' replied the small Croc. 'Hmm. Well, where do you catch them?' 'On the other side of the river near the Parliament car park in Canberra. 'Same here. Hmm.....How do you catch them?' asked the big Croc. 'Well, I crawl up under one of their big Lexus, BMW or Mercedes cars and wait for one to unlock the car door. Then I jump out, grab them by the leg, shake the shit out of them and eat 'em!' 'Ah!' says the big Crocodile, 'I think I see your problem. You're not getting any real nourishment. See, by the time you finish shaking the shit out of a Politician, there's nothing much left but an arsehole with a briefcase. Quiz Time. Question 1. What was first patented in Britain in 1750 with a recipe consisting of fish and fish bones? Answer 1. Glue Question 2. What Name did Neil Armstrong give to the spot where human’s fist touched down on the moon? Answer 2. Tranquillity Base Question 3. Who said "All you need to fly, are lovely things and Fairy dust"? Answer 3. Peter Pan If you got all the answers right you’re a genius, but don't tell anybody, they might get jealous!

It that’s time again. Spring has arrived and the weather slowly starting to warm up and the daylight hours are slowly

getting longer. It gives us the chance to have a bit more RC fun. May all your flights be fun and may you always have a safe
