Former vice presidential can-didate and Alaskan GovernorSarah Palin greeted hundreds oftea party supporters Saturday atthe Wayne County Fairgroundsin Van Buren Township.
Palin was the guest speakerat Patriots in the Park, an eventsponsored by the Willow Run TeaParty Caucus and AmericansFor Prosperity Michigan.
Palin spoke at length aboutenergy and the economy, sayingthat lifting government restric-tions on coal and oil productionin the United States would help
Our economic revival startswith our energy revival, shesaid. Its about fostering a genu-ine free market.
Government interference,Palin said, is a problem and ishindering economic growth.
2012 is the race between biggovernment and big freedom,she said. We must get govern-ment out of the way and we mustlet the private sector breathe andgrow.
Palin also criticized PresidentBarack Obama and health carereform.
Were little tea pots, andwere getting steamed upbecause Obama is tippingus over, pouring us out and
draining the entrepreneurialspirit from us, that which grewAmerica into the most excep-
tional nation ever known, shesaid.
Obama, Palin said, is trying tofundamentally change the U.S.with healthcare reform.
Can you afford four more
years of this? she asked thecrowd. Why would anybodywant to fundamentally trans-form what is so good and free
and strong about America?Energizing the crowd, Palin
also spoke about optimism in thecoming year, as the presidentialelection grows closer.
I dont want you to be
bummed, I dont want you to losecourage and I dont want you tolose hope and faith that thingscan be turned around, though
the challenges do seem daunt-ing, she said.
Palins speech did instilloptimism into the crowd, whichenthusiastically cheered her on.
Kathleen Wilson, from Novi,
said she attended the event togain some of that enthusiasm.

Mary Couperthwaite-Copsey, representing theCruisin on the Bayou CarShow Review that is fea-tured each Monday eveningon Bellevilles Main Street,
told the city council in itsregular meeting on July 2that the show has been abig success, exceeding theirexpectations.
The inaugural show onJune 4 featured 104 classiccars, she said, and she wastold that the show on June
25 exceeded 200 cars. Shereported that there were138 classic cars on displayas she spoke at council thatsame evening, and thateach week, she saw moreclassic car entries thatwere new to the show.
For the first year, our
stats are phenomenal, shesaid.
We havent had toomany complaints, sheadded, referring to resi-dents or businesses whohad said they were beinginconvenienced by theshows, which close a por-
tion of Main Street eachMonday evening.
Belleville Mayor KerreenConley said she hadreceived mostly positivefeedback about the event,with some merchants
