THOUGHTS WRITTEN ABOUT PRAYER
Men and women are at their noblest and best when they are ontheir knees before God in prayer. I doubt if anybody has everbecome at all Christ-like, who has not been diligent in prayer;
In prayer we express our dependence on God in every area of ourhuman life. Material (daily bread), spiritual (forgiveness of sins) and
moral (deliverance from evil) as it is in the Lords prayer. The purpose of prayer is emphatically not to bend Gods will to
ours, but rather to align our will to his will. 1 John 5:14; Matt 6:10
It is by prayer that we seek Gods will embrace it and align ourselveswith it. To pray is to change.
Obedience is the indispensable condition, not the mysterious causeof answered prayer.
Prayer is to the spirit what oxygen is to the body.

Whyand How
Do I Pray?What is Prayer?
With God - Prayer is communion or communication withGod in worship. not for the benefit of othersWhen you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray
to your Father who is unseen Matthew 66
Communication - Is a two directional communicationbetween man and God. John 2:5 (His mother said to theservants, Whatever He says to you, do it.). not just a ritual
Do not keep on babbling like pagans Matthew 6 7
Relational - the act of prayer develops our relationshipYour Father, who sees what is done in secret, will rewardyou Matthew 6 6
Two-way - receiving as well as transmitting
Two-way, relational communication with God
Prayer involves the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit of God

Whyand How
Do I Pray?What is Prayer?
Christian Prayer is prayer through the Son
through (Jesus) we have accessto theFather by one Spirit Ephesians 2 18
Jesus said the Father would give whatever you
ask in my name John 15 16
We have no rightin ourselves to come to God,but can do so through Jesus and in his name
This is why prayersoften endwith throughJesus Christ our Lord or in the name ofJesus

when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the
heavens were opened,
He began his ministry by praying

dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary

with prayer

Why We Should Pray
John 17 Jesus Prays to Be Glorified, Jesus Prays for His
Disciples, Jesus Prays for All Believers
Hebrews 7: 24-25But because Jesus lives forever, he has a
permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save
completely those who come to God through him, because
he always lives to intercede for them.
He now intercedes for his people
as High Priest
Luke 11:1-4 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.
When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord,
teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples. 2 He
said to them, When you pray, say:
Taught His disciples how to pray
Luke 18:1-8 The Parable of the Persistent Widow
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that
they should always pray and not give up.
Taught about persistence in prayer

Do I Pray?Does God Always Answer Prayer?
Un-confessed sincauses a barrierbetween us and God - Brokenrelationship Psalm 51, 1 Peter 3:7, Mark 11:25-26.
Our motivesmay be wrong-To pray with the right motive, in the rightcondition, is the way of expressing our dependence on God. When we
pray thus we receive, and as a result we experience joy in God.
We may be asking for what is not goodfor us Theanswerto our prayer may be yes, no or wait!Pretentiousness
and pride in prayer, Matt 6:5-6, (self-justification and righteousness hinders
prayer.) Failing to pray or failing to wait on God.
There may be good reasons why we do not always getwhat we ask for(Hindrances to prayer)
If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us1 John 5 14

BOB ROGERS 101 REASONS TO FAST
American History: the foundation of the Nation used Prayer & Fasting based on the Bible
2 Chronicles 7:14If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seekMy face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin andheal their land.
POINT 1:
Assembly of Virginia passed a resolution on June 1, 1774 as a day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer
May 1774, the British Parliament ordered an embargo of Boston to begin June 1st
Immediately the Burgesses of Virginia passed a resolution protesting this act and setting aside the dayof embargo to seek God through fasting & prayer
Heres how the resolution read:
Tuesday, 24th of May, King George III, 1774: This house deeply impressed with the apprehension ofthe great dangers to be derived to British America from the hostile invasion of the city of Boston our
sister colony of Massachusetts Bay whose commerce and harbor are on the 1st Day of June next to bestopped by an armed force, deem it highly necessary that the set 1st day of June be set apart by themembers of the House of a day of fasting humiliation and prayer devalued to implore the divineinterposition for averting the heavy calamity which threatens the destruction of our civil rights
CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS GOING ON TODAY IN OUR GOVERNEMENT?

UNDER MADISON
4th President of the USA, James Madison, the United States was engaged in war with Britain
Both Houses of Congress passed a joint resolution desiring a public day of humiliation, fasting & prayer onJan 12, 1815
This historical event in the nations history fulfilled Gods promise recorded in:
Isaiah 65:24It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I willhear.
4 days before the fasting date set by President Madison, Britain was defeated in the battle of New Orleans
Peace soon followed and Congress set the 2ndTuesday of April, 1815 as a day of Thanksgiving to God
PROCLAMATION READS:it is for blessings such as these and especially for the restoration of the blessing of peace that I nowrecommend that the 2nd Tuesday of April, next be set apart as a day on which the people of everyreligious denomination may in their solon assemblies unite their heart and their voices in a free willoffering to the Heavenly benefactor for their homage of thanksgiving and of their songs of praise
