Personal tutor As a student at The Bedford Sixth Form you willbe assigned a professionally trained personaltutor when you start your course who will giveyou continual, one-on-one support throughoutyour time with us – from regular tutorials thatgive you the opportunity to discuss your workface-to-face, to help with personal developmentincluding producing an individual learning plan,tailored to your future aspirations. You will alsomeet your tutor together with the otherstudents in your tutor group to keep youinformed of everything going on at our SixthForm or to work on group issues such as careerplanning.

Careers adviceWhere do you want to be in 10 years?Throughout your time with us, our careersadvisers are there to help you find the rightpath, providing impartial advice and guidanceon everything from your education, training andwork prospects to support with UCASapplications, CVs, application forms andinterview preparation.

Supporting youEveryone has different needs when it comes to support and guidance –at The Bedford Sixth Form our team of Student Services advisers makesure that we provide the support you need, when you need it.

financial supportWe understand that the cost of studying could be a worryso our student finance team are there to provide you withpractical advice on student bursaries, travel costs, highereducation funding, grants and much more. We also have arange of financial support packages available to help withessential costs such as equipment, books or clothing, aswell as bursaries for vulnerable students or those in severefinancial hardship – because we don’t want money issuesbecoming a barrier to your learning.

Tuition and exam feesIf you are aged 16-18 on 31 August 2014 and a British orEuropean Union resident the tuition and exam registrationfees for your course are FREE.

If you are aged 19 or over on 31 August 2014 you willnormally have to pay a fee for your course. Fee waivers maybe available depending on the qualifications you alreadyhold or if you are in receipt of certain means-tested benefits.Check www.bedfordsixthform.ac.uk/finance for full details.

financial supportStudying for your A-Levels and Level 3 Technicalqualifications may come with a cost – here’s a reviewof the financial help we can offer you as a student ofThe Bedford Sixth Form. Please note, funding is limitedso we strongly advise that you apply as early as possible.

We may be able to help with Ofsted-registered childcare costssuch as nursery, childminders or pre/after-school clubs. To qualify,your household income must be £26,000 or less. If your householdincome is £16,190 or less, your contribution towards costs could beas low as £1. Please note: early application is advised.

You may be able to receive up to 90% of essential course costs. To qualify, for those aged 16-18 your household income must be£30,000 or less. For those aged 19 or above your household incomemust be £26,000 or less; however additional support of £100per term may be available if household income is £16,190 or less.

You could get an additional £100 per term to pay towards costsrelated to your studies if your household income is £16,190 or less.

Designed to help with the costs of travelling to our Sixth Form. For those aged 16-18 you will qualify regardless of your householdincome. For those aged 19 or above to qualify your householdincome must be £26,000 or less. Please note: you must apply by 19 December 2014.

We may be able to make a contribution of up to 90% towards thecost of tuition fees, examination fees and professional body fees.To qualify, your household income must be £26,000 or less.

You may be eligible for support of up to £1,200 a year if youare in one of the following categories:• looked after by the local authority• a care leaver• living on your own and in receipt of income support• in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and

YOUR SIXTH FORM CHOICES

level 3 programmeThis two-year study programme consists of two options,which you can read about below. To access either ofthese options, you will need to have achieved thefollowing results in your GCSEs:

• At least five GCSEs at A*-C including English

• You will be required to hold a GCSE at A*-C or at least aMerit grade in an alternative Level 2 qualification withinin your chosen subject if you have studied it previously– only one alternative Level 2 qualification will becounted towards your grades.

• In addition, there may also be special entry requirementsfor your chosen subject – just check the course listingto find out more.
