Presley, Dylan, and "We're more popular than Jesus Christ"

Elvis Presley asked the President Richard Nixon that he forbade the entry of

The Beatles in the United States.

Peter Guralnick wrote, "The Beatles, Elvis seconds, [...] were anti-American. They

came to America, made fortune, and returned to England”.

In contrast, Bob Dylan said: "America must build statues of the Beatles. They

helped bring back the pride of the country.“

After the interview that Lennon gave and said that the Beatles were more popular

than Jesus Christ, fundamentalist Christians were angry about the sentence of

Lennon and protested. Later, John publicly apologized for the statement and was

forgiven by Pope Benedict XVI.
