The Beastly Vegetarian

Back in the days of the gods, lived a tribe of vicious tigers. Their

home was deep in the Amazon forest of Brazil. They were known as the Garfields because of their bright orange

fur and humongous appetite. Each one of the tigers were skilledwarriors and trained in the art of hunting… except for one.

His name was Erick and he was a vegetarian. He was abandonedby his parents when they discovered that he was a vegetarian. Evenat an early age, Erick displayed weaknesses and refused to hunt.

Everyday, Erick received taunts and petty remarks from hispeers. Even though Erick faced so many insults, he always managedto get by, for he was in love.

He was in love with a tiger called Katie. He noticed that she wascute and a talented hunter who mastered the art of stealth. Shealways hung out with the cool and hunky tigers and Erick was so

jealous. He desperately wanted to be like those tigers but he knewthat that would forever be a fantasy. Erick had asked out Katiebefore, but he got rejected due to his poor reputation. However,Erick would not give up, for he was in his prime and knew it was nowor never.

What he did not know, was that a chance for him to show his

quality was quickly approaching…

“Watch Sean’s back, attack his legs!” Marcus shouted. The lonerhino tossed back and forth, trying to shake off the tigers. Sean

jumped viciously onto the rhino’s back and held him in place.Marcus dashed quickly to the side of the rhino and tackled him tothe ground. He pressed his front paws onto the rhino’s side and thetwo tigers held him down. “Now Erick, finish him!” Marcus growled.

Suddenly, out of the tall grasses, a lean tiger pounced out,“ Ahhhhh!! ” Erick attacked the rhino, but at the last second, hehesitated. The rhino saw this weakness and stabbed Erick’s leg withhis horn. The tiger crippled to the ground, and Marcus sighed indisgust. With one quick and swift movement, he broke the rhino’sneck.

“Let this be a lesson to you rhino: never challenge the Garfieldsfor their land!” Sean roared.

“Let’s bring the carcass back, we’ll have dinner for a week,”Marcus said. He then sank his fangs into the tiger’s neck and begandragging it back.

“On your feet Erick,” growled Sean in a commanding voice.Erick slowly got on his feet and trotted behind his superiors.

Back at the center of their home, the Garfields howled in victoryas their fellow brothers brought home a banquet. Marcus pulled thecarcass of the rhino onto a huge bolder and Sean followed. Erick

however, stayed aside and watched. As he began walking away, henoticed Katie chatting with the heroes.

“Despite today’s setback, I will one day become the center of attention and get Katie to finally notice me…ahhh, who am I kidding,she’ll never like me. I’m just a nobody,” Erick sighed and turnedaway from the river.

He looked north towards the thousands of stars. Suddenly, henoticed a blur pouring over the hilltop. His eyes widened, and withall the speed he could conjure, he raced back towards the Garfields.

“A great host you say? How many?” asked Marcus.“Hundreds of rhinos. They shall be here by dawn,” Erick replied.Marcus thought for a moment and then he passed down orders,

“Ready as many of us as you can, prepare for battle.”An idea suddenly popped into Erick’s mind, and he blocked

Marcus’s path, “Wait, I can resolve this without battle!”“And why should I trust you? Never have you ever done anything

for this tribe,” stated Marcus.“I know in my heart that this is the wisest option. I can save our

tribe without risking any lives except for my own,” Erick persisted.

Marcus stared into his eyes and noticed confidence. At last hesighed, “Fine, do as you like.”

Erick smiled and raced north to greet the rhinos.

“Tiger, where is your king, we wish to avenge the death of ourprince!” Said the rhino in a deep voice.

“No, no, no this is all just a misunderstanding. You see, theGarfields are vegetarians. We would have no reason to kill a rhino,”said Erick.

“I don’t believe you. What kind of tiger does not devour meat?”“If you don’t believe me, smell my breath,” said Erick. He was

trembling all over, for he was surrounded. The leader of the rhinos seemed hesitant, but he finally gave his

men the go-ahead signal. Two of them walked over to Erick’s openmouth and breathed in.

A few seconds later, they returned to their leader and theydiscussed the situation. Finally, the rhino said, “I believe you, youngtiger, and I am willing to compromise. We shall move into Garfieldterritory and divide the land. Together, we can conquer all the land

we want! What say you?”“Yes, of course!” Erick replied instantly.

So, the young tiger led the tribe of rhinos back to his home, andtogether, the rhinos and Garfields created a huge kingdom. Erickhad become the most famous Garfield of all time and he ended up

marrying Katie. Erick proved that being different isn’t the same asbeing weak. It was his differences that spared the lives of his entiretribe. Later on, he ended up raising his cubs as vegetarians, in thehope that they will follow in his paw-steps.
