Lakeview Boys & Girls Track Policy• ACCOUNTABILITY • As we begin the 2015 Track & Field season we want to share with each of

you a philosophy that we as a coaching staff will use as a guide throughout the season. It can be summed up best using one word ACCOUNTABILITY.

• There are three ways of dealing with ACCOUNTABILITY. • WINNERS - They give their best. Winners like the challenge of

competition and prepare for it at practice. They know that there is always room for improvement in their marks and times. Winners put the team ahead of individual glory and lead by a positive example.

• EXCUSE MAKERS - These athletes are afraid to commit. They just have a

confidence problem. Hard practices scare them because of the physical demands they'll face, and at meets they are more afraid of losing than trying to find ways to win. If they would only make commitment to training and developing a "can do" attitude, then they will become winners.

• LOSERS - They don't try at practice and they give up at meets. They cause

problems, because they are afraid of the accountability in life. These people will be removed from the program.

We expect each of you to be ACCOUNTABLE for your Actions, Attitude, and being a Student.

Lakeview Junior High Track & Field Teams are expected to observe the following team policies. Failure to follow these policies will be dealt with in a scaling manner with the final step being the athlete’s dismissal from the team.

1) We will be cutting athletes from this team, and you will be dismissed from the team if you do not attend practice.• A) Do not over commit yourself with other

activities if you want to be a member of the team. It takes time and a lot of energy to be a good athlete. Make sure you have both to give.

• B) We'll practice outside most of the time so dress for the weather. Improper dress is not a reason to miss practice.

• C) Make each practice count in regards to making you a better athlete in your events. If you miss a practice for an unexcused reason you can NOT compete in Dual or Invitation meets. You are on suspension. If you miss up to 3 practices you are dismissed from the team.

Unexcused misses:• 1. Cannot finish practice (Athlete quits)• 2. Athlete says he or she is injured, but trainer says nothing

is wrong.• 3. At school but not at practice• 4. Athlete lies or deceives • 5. No Doctor’s Note 6. Disciplined by the school• 7. Ratio of Excused absences out weights the practice time

Page 5: The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself- the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us- that’s where.

Lakeview Boys & Girls Track PolicyD) Your event coaches will excuse you from practice. You need to check-in with them if you cannot make a practice. Keep them informed of any conflicts, appointments or special circumstances before they happen. 2) You don't have to be friends with everyone on the team, but you do have to respect everyone on the team.A) There is no hazing or initiation into any group or part of this team.B) There is no place for abusive language or behavior directed toward any individual, group, or teams. C) Stealing --- DismissalD) Fighting--------------DismissalE) Antagonizing other Athletes---Suspension

3) You are expected to compete in the events and meets to which you are assigned by the coaching staff.

• A) Remember, we don't use a sign-up sheet for meets. At times during the season we have 2 meets scheduled during a given week so we will need to spread our athletes out over a variety of meets. We will give you advanced notice of what meets you will be in and what events.

• B) Let your parents know that it is not their position to tell us what meets or events you will compete in. Many times parents put the interest of their own kids ahead of the team and others on the team. As coaches we consider every athlete’s interest and certainly the team’s interest foremost.

4) We do NOT have any meets scheduled over spring break. We may have practice over spring break.

5) Follow the requests and instructions of the Track & Field Staff throughout the season. This is especially true for your event coach as you work with them during the season with your event(s).• A) For our veterans we have an experienced coaching staff this year, and for our

first-time Track & Field athletes this is your first introduction to our junior high school coaching staff. Remember that your event coach has to weigh many factors and considerations before making their decision about a question or concern that you may have. Sometimes their decision isn't the one you had hoped for or wanted, but remember their decision is final.

• B) When you willingly and voluntarily join this team you should also understand

that the Junior High School Track & Field Staff is your coach. There is no room for anyone else that you may have as a personal trainer, personal coach, personal confidant, or whatever other title you may wish to place on them to work with you in any manner or capacity. This includes additional training, instruction, competition strategy and tactics, or your event placement at meets. Our experience is that people who want to act in this capacity with an athlete or small group of athletes has only that individual’s or small group’s interest in mind, and certainly not the interest of the entire team or program. Also, athletes in this position are receiving two messages regarding their athletic development, competition and how they fit into our team concept. Athletes who feel they need their “personal trainer" create division on the team.
