Affectionately referred to as America’s Catholic Church, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, has been a century in the making since the laying of its foundation stone in 1920. Designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a National Sanctuary of Prayer and Pilgrimage, the Basilica is our nation’s preeminent Marian Shrine, dedicated to the Patroness of the United States, the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception. Mary’s Shrine, as it is often called, is the largest Roman Catholic Church in North America and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI, Saint John Paul II, and Saint Mother Teresa are among the faithful who have visited this magnificent basilica. Now as its one hundredth anniversary approaches, a nationwide effort is underway to complete this great “Hymn in Stone” as its founders envisioned with the mosaic ornamentation of the Trinity Dome. LA CÚPULA DE LA TRINIDADen la Iglesia Católica de los Estados Unidos

Llamada afectuosamente la Iglesia Católica de los Estados Unidos, la Basílica del Santuario Nacional de la Inmaculada Concepción en Washington, D.C., ha estado un siglo en el desarrollo desde que se colocaron la primera piedra de su fundación en 1920.

Nombrado como un Santuario Nacional de Oración y Peregrinaje por la Conferencia de los Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos, la Basílica es el santuario mariano preeminente del país, dedicada a la Patrona de los Estados Unidos, la Bendecida Virgen María, bajo su título de la Concepción Inmaculada. “El Santuario de María” como lo llaman con frecuencia, es la iglesia católica mas grande del país y una de las diez Iglesias mas grandes del mundo.

Papa Francisco, Papa Benedicto XVI, el Santo Juan Pablo II, y la Santa Madre Teresa cuentan entre los fieles quienes han visitado esta magnífica basílica. Ahora, como se acerca su centenario, nos hemos montado un esfuerzo de escala nacional para completar este fantástico “Himno en Piedra” como lo visualizaron sus fundadores con la ornamentación de un mosaico de la Cúpula de la Trinidad.

La Cúpula De la TrinidadLa Cúpula de la Trinidad es la cúpula central y la cúpula mas grande de la Basílica. Esta joya se adornará con un mosaico y representará la Más Sagrada Trinidad, la Bendecida Virgen María como la Concepción Inmaculada, y una procesión de los santos, quienes tienen una asociación con América y con la Basílica. El Credo Niceno encerrará la base de la cúpula, mientras las pecinas de la cúpula mostrará los cuatros evangelistas: Mateo, Marco, Lucas, y Juan. La Cúpula de la Trinidad completará el trabajo de la Gran Iglesia según su esquema iconográfica original y con ella concluirá la construcción de la Basílica Nacional del Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepción mientra esta se acerca su centenario en 2020.

La Colección Nacional Los Obispos de los Estados Unidos aprobaron una se-gunda colección por una sola vez para la Cúpula de la Trinidad. Sus oraciones y su apoyo financiero no solamente adornarán esta corona y completará el Santuario de María, pero también dejará un legado para futuras generaciónes en este monumento vivo de nuestra fe católica y herencia que es la Iglesia Católica de América.
