Come along and find out

more!

We welcome all players,

regardless of age and ability.

Why not come along and see

what it is all about?

This is a great opportunity to

be part of a band, meet new

friends, and enjoy playing

music together.

We look forward to seeing

you!

The training band rehearse twice a week on

Mondays and Thursdays at Leiston Ex-

Service Club, from 7pm until 8pm. We

understand that people may have other

commitments or studies, so we accept that

some people may only be able to attend

rehearsals once a week.

As well as rehearsals, the training band also

take on their own bookings, where they often

perform at local fetes and concerts. In

addition to this, the training band also

perform at the main band’s annual Christmas

concert, and also lead the bands’ Summer

Social and awards ceremony.

Overall this is a great way to learn, in an

enjoyable and sociable environment.

The Training Band

The training band gives those learning to play

a brass instrument or percussion an

opportunity to learn more and gain

experience of playing as part of a band. Most

importantly, the training band is used to

prepare our main band players of the future,

and those with the necessary ability and

commitment will be considered for vacancies

within the main band, as and when they arise.

The following instruments all form part of

both the main and training band:-

Cornet, Flugel Horn, Tenor Horn, Baritone,

Euphonium, Trombone, Bass, Percussion

(including glockenspiel and symbols).

The Main Band

The Band of The Royal British Legion, Leiston

dates back to 1859 when it was first associated

with the Leiston unit of 9th Suffolk Rifle

Volunteer Corp. In 1932 the band was taken

over by the The British Legion, although the

band remains financially self supporting.

The band today is a social brass band run

entirely by volunteers, most of whom also play

in the band.

As both a concert and marching band, we

perform at a wide variety of events. These

include local fetes, celebrations, and concerts,

as well a number of larger events such as

Felixstowe Carnival, Newmarket Races and

contesting as part of the East Anglian Brass

Band Association. We have also had the

honour of playing the daily Last Post

Ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres,

Belgium.
