We all have goals. Some-times, though, those goalsare not attained becauseyou aspire to reach tosomeplace unattainable.
Maybe you look up to a friend whoruns marathons, or he or she has thediscipline to exercise before dawn —and these are simply exercise routinesyou cannot keep. Don’t compare your-self to anyone. Maybe all you canmuster is plugging in the newestDVD fitness routine in your livingroom. And while that seems mundane, that’s about all you can really investin your busy life.
That’s ok!Every day is a step closer to your
goal, and don’t forget to admire eachstep. It’s hard work to be fit — a bigcommitment — so don’t feel bad aboutthat. Feel bad if you don’t try.
Being fitter than you were the daybefore is actually what really matters.Even 30 minutes a day can produceresults that don’t just make you look
better, but produces health benefits.Start slow, chart your progress,
don’t quit, eat clean, put the cigarettesdown, drink occasionally, and includetime for fitness like you would any
other importantevent in your life.

COURTESY OF GIRL SCOUTS OF CALIFORNIA AND THE CALIFORNIAMILK PROCESSOR BOARD
The California Milk ProcessorBoard, creator of the “GotMilk?” campaign, and the Cali-fornia Girl Scouts haveannounced the names of 24
finalists from the Golden State in the“Got Milk?” photo contest, includingone girl from Bakersfield.
The contest received more than 300entries. Bakersfield girl scout, AmayaJohnson-Wood, 7 — part of the GirlScouts of Central California Southcouncil — was named a finalists.
Amaya’s winning photo included thecaption: “Milk — it helps me sell GirlScout cookies!”
Among these 24 lucky young ladies, three will be named grand prize win-ners. Those three will be featuredtogether on new “Got Milk?” GirlsScouts commemorative billboards tobe unveiled early February in thegirls’ hometowns.
The contest, which ran from Nov. 5to Dec. 17, was open to all currentlyregistered Girl Scouts in kindergartenthrough 12th grades, belonging to oneof the eight councils in California. GirlScouts had to submit a photo with acaption of no more than eight wordsshowcasing the contest prompt: “Howhave Girl Scouts and milk helped thembecome strong, healthy and confi-
dent?” “We received over 300 entries from
Girl Scouts from all eight councils inCalifornia,” said Steve James, execu-tive director of the processor board.“It was great to see how this contestsparked creativity among the girls andit reminded Californians that the val-ues of Girl Scouting and milk go hand-in-hand.”
The Girl Scouts photo contest wasinspired by an iconic print campaignthat ran 15 years ago. It featured anadorable 10-year-old Girl Scout whomade an impression on Californianswith her iconic uniform and an armfulof cookie boxes, provoking the ques-tion, “Got Milk?”
All 24 contest finalists will eachreceive a camp scholarship worth$350. The three grand prize GirlScouts winners to be announced at theend of the month will each receive a$500 U.S. Savings Bond, and will befeatured together on a billboard (orcomparable advertising media) in theirhometowns throughout the month ofFebruary — just in time for cookiesale season.
About Girl Scouts in CaliforniaGirl Scouts, the preeminent leader-
ship development organization for
girls, is celebrating its 100th anniver-
sary during 2012. Girl Scouts is the
leading authority on girls' healthy
development, and builds girls of
courage, confidence, and character,
who make the world a better place. In
California, more than 200,000 Girl
Scouts from every social and economic
background are developing values,
skills and abilities for success in the
21st Century. According to a recent
study conducted by the Girl Scout
Research Institute in conjunction with
an independent research firm, women
who were Girl Scouts as children dis-
play significantly more positive life
outcomes than non-Girl Scout alum-
nae. Girl Scout alumnae have higher
perceptions of self, higher rates of vol-
unteerism and civic engagement, high-
er rates of college education and high-
er household incomes than non-alum-
nae. To join, volunteer, reconnect with
or donate to Girl Scouts, visit

About the California Milk ProcessorBoard
The board was established in 1993 to
make milk more competitive and
increase milk consumption in Califor-
nia. Awareness of Got Milk? is more
than 90 percent nationally and it is
considered one of the most important
and successful campaigns in history.
Got Milk? is a federally registered
trademark that has been licensed by
the national dairy boards since 1995.
The board’s Spanish-language cam-
paign began in 1994 using the tagline
“Familia, Amor y Leche” (Family, Love
and Milk). The “Toma Leche” (Drink
Milk) campaign replaced it in 2006,
following a growing trend in Hispanic
food advertising that uses wit and
humor to reach audiences. More infor-
mation: www.gotmilk.com.
