THE AWANA CRYER EDITOR: GARY CHAPPLE There is not a great deal to report from our last board meeting. We are still re- placing many of the dead trees and this will commence when the weather turns warm. We also plan to plant some trees behind Building 1 along the fence be- hind the RV lot which will provide some privacy to the folks using that green space. There will be a semi-annual meeting in April. The date and agenda are yet to be set and will be circulated with lots of no- tice. If you have an item that you wish to have the board and membership con- sider, please give it to any board mem- ber in writing before April 8. This will give us time to consider and prepare a presentation. When a reminder or instruction is put in the Cryer, it is meant for the mem- bership in general. As an example, we all need to be reminded to drive slower and more carefully. The Cryer is not used to target specific members and should not be taken that way. If the Board has a specific problem then they deal directly with the members involved. So please don't take offense to anything in the Cryer. And I apologize if anyone feels that they have been targeted. ISSUE 2011-01 The president will be absent for the month of March, returning on the third of April. If you have a need, the vice- president, Lawrence Lofgren or any other board member will be available to look after you. Bill collie has gone around to all the up- per balconies to check on their condi- tion. There is at least one or two that need repairing , so we will get that done as quickly as the repairmen are available. You are reminded that if you wish to make changes to you suite there are forms for putting in a request. Permis- sion is usually granted but we need the forms for keeping a record of upgrades, etc.. If you are having a repairman come for some reason it is good to let a board member know. When we suddenly see people climbing on our roofs, for exam- ple, and we didn't know they were com- ing it puts the board members on a spot. As well there are specific things that are not allowed, such as putting holes in the siding or roof. The board had a presentation from a maintenance management company. We got some valuable information, but chose not to use their services as it was quite expensive. There are some places we can use their company though.

ALL AROUND THE AWANABUSH

A lot has happened around AWANAover the last month. MargaretKolthammer is settling in nicely. Youmight note that I have spelled hername correctly this time.Jack and Cheryl Sharp are making ex-tensive upgrades to their suite. Theystarted by gutting everything andthrowing everything from cupboard totubs out over the balcony. The floorwas badly cracked and needed repair-ing before the hardwood could go in.There appears to be a shifting of thebuilding that caused a space when thenew cupboards were put in.Leonard and Doris Klassen will beleaving us in April. They will be mov-ing to Menno Terrace where they willbe better able to be assisted. They willbe sorely missed as they have been agreat help around AWANA. Leonardwas always first on site set up chairsand tables and last to leave whenclean up was needed. They will be in-vited back to any of our events and aremost welcome anytime.Lammert is still in the hospital. Heoriginally went in with pneumonia. He got to come home but complica-tions put him back in. He developeda sore that needed to be lanced andpacked. That is healing nicely. He isnot getting much exercise so he is los-

ing strength. He and Joan need ourprayers.Irma McFarland is also in the hospital. She had a fall and was taken in by ambu-lance. From what I have been told thedoctors are keeping her to see if there areany complications. There does not seemto be any broken bones.Geneva Sandnes is celebrating her 90thBirthday this month. She will be havingfamily and friends from all over coming tovisit. People are coming from as far awayas Dawson Creek and Fort Saint John. Itwill be a good time of getting together andremembering old times. Maybe even someforgotten embarrassing things will be men-tioned. But it won't be me doing it. Iknow better.Margaret Davis has had a hip replacementand is reported to be doing well. She isnot home yet as she needs a little extracare and there is no one at home to helpher. She will be in a care facility for a cou-ple weeks and then a family member willbe with her as needed. It will be good see-ing Margaret getting about again. You won't be seeing Pat and Gary's facearound here for the next while. They arecelebrating a hundred years of marriagethis year, 50 for Pat and 50 for Gary. Eventhough the actual date is in Septemberthey are going to celebrate all year long.So they will be on a 30 day cruise to theSouth Pacific via Hawaii. They'll take lotsof pictures.

Many of us are amazed to see four young people standing on a corner with their cellphones, and punching them with their fingers. They are communicating. Perhaps notwith each other, but they are communicating. They are TEXTINGl In order to savespace and move faster, they use short forms. For example 'LOL' means 'laugh outloud' or 'loads of love', depending on the context. If you use capitols that means youare shouting. Should you get the desire to learn 'texting' you need to learn the shortforms. But the following short forms you will find helpful as they are specifically forseniors:

THE BOOKWORM

It was good to check the book section and see the number of books that havecome in and gone out for reading. These are the right days to settle in and en-joy a cup of tea and a book. Spring and summer are just around the cornerwhen our yards and flowers take over.

Ken Follett- "Hornet Flight"."Buzzing with intrigue-wrapped around the 1941 war in England. A derelictHornet biplane and a Danish young man."

Mary Beth Chapman--"Choosing to SEE"A young mother, wife of Steven Curtis Chapman, wanted only a peaceful life, stability and control. Instead God gave her read and find out!

Lee laccoca-'Talking Straight"The story of a rising son of an immigrant father.

Jim Bakker--"! Was Wrong"A story of a shocking journey from power to prison.

Aliska Webb~"Twelve Golden Threads"Lessons for Successful living from a Grama's Quilt.

Who'd a guessed?

John and Mary own a farm on the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border. One morning theyget a knock on the door and two surveyors are standing there. They request permissionto enter the property and carry out a survey. Being the nice folks they are, John andMary oblige. Mary even invites them in for a very nice lunch.

At the end of the day the surveyors come back and talk to John and Mary."I have some bad news for you," says the lead surveyor, "And I wanted to tell you inperson rather than sending you a letter! The results of our survey shows that you nowlive in Manitoba, not Saskatchewan."

"That's just great!" says Mary. "Why just the other day John was saying he couldn'ttake another winter in Saskatchewan!"
