CONCENTRIC CIRCLES
The congregation of Holy Child is very generous. Participation in the weekly passing of the basket helps to keep the parish going forward.
In addition to local support, we are called upon as Catholics to support the wider diocesan network to which every Catholic parish is connected throughout the Universal Church.
An analogy would be our financial responsibilities at the municipal, state and federal levels. We live not only in our own city (parish) or state (diocese) but within the federal union, so to speak, of the country (Church Universal).
Many Christian churches not of our denomination are responsible strictly at their local level with no diocesan affiliation or connection to the Holy See.
Understandably, belonging to a universal church brings with it a responsibility that goes beyond each parish with its particular activities.
That is why diocesan bishops call upon the parishes in their territory for support as does ours with the annual Cardinal’s Appeal or periodic fund raising initiatives such as the current Renew & Rebuild Campaign.
And we are reminded of our ultimate connection with the Papacy as the worldwide Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up annually to support the central government of our Church.
All this forms the indispensable structure of the Church that calls itself Catholic.
Holy Child is remarkably generous on all these fronts. The latest proof of this is the positive response given by 192 parishioners to the Renew & Rebuild Campaign. Their phenomenal gen-erosity has thus far yielded $1,124,724 for purposes already well explained. I am sure that these 192 parishioners have pitched in over the years to the Cardinal’s Appeal.
But the usual number of Cardinal’s Appeal contributors is 548, leading one to wonder if the oth-er 356 regular Cardinal’s Appeal contributors understand that part and parcel of this Renew & Rebuild Campaign is the 2017 Cardinal’s Appeal assessment of $128,000 which has not been waived but has rather been incorporated into the Renew & Rebuild assessment of $1,190,257.
Holy Child encourages parishioners who respond annually to the Cardinal’s Appeal to make their usual annual offering to the Cardinal’s Appeal which is once again underway at Holy Child but this year happens to be sailing under the Renew & Rebuild flag.

P.S. Over the last weekend of the month there will be the “In Pew” campaign presentation. In the meantime, you may review the mailing you may have already received or take a brochure and
form from the lobby pamphlet rack.
