By Daniel BrinThree weeks ago, I pointed

out that crime, overall, is down in Los Angeles. Way down. And it has been trending down since the early 1990s.

But there’s also bad news of late: Homicides and aggravated assaults are up in comparison with pre-pandemic levels.

How can violent crimes go up when other kinds of crime are continuing their historic downward trends?

We can’t accurately blame criminal-coddling California liberals, despite what you might read from certain folks of the conservative persuasion. Homicides are up across the country, including in red states that still operate under the “lock ’em up” model of law enforcement.

The one thing all these places have in common is COVID-19, which has put enormous stress on Americans, especially those who live in poorer communities, where the pandemic takes its highest physical and economic tolls and social services were never close to adequate to begin with.

With abuse shelters and mental health clinics closed or operating at reduced capacity, more people find themselves trapped in potentially violent domestic environments even as they struggle with depression and

Crime is Down, Homicides are Up. Why?Guest Editorial:

the need to acquire food, health care and money to pay the rent.

Making matters even worse, initiatives that have successfully reduced violence in Los Angeles, such as the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development, have been hobbled by COVID-19 safety protocols and work furloughs.

All this, plus the easy availability of guns, adds up to

more violence concentrated in poorer sections of the City of Angels and other parts of the U.S., both urban and rural. Meanwhile, affluent areas like the western San Fernando Valley also feel the effects of COVID-related stress, manifested predominantly as assaults among family members and other acquaintances.

In my own community of West Hills — where, according to our LAPD senior lead officers, the great majority of violent acts are of the domestic variety — those sorts of crimes amount to nearly a 46% increase in the first three months of 2021 when compared

to the same (pre-pandemic) period last year.

To put it in perspective, this increase amounts to 35 cases, as compared to 24 last year. At the same time, property crimes in West Hills are down about 15%, which brings the overall crime rate for the area (plus some adjoining areas in Canoga Park and Woodland Hills) down 15% as well.

The best thing we can do to secure the physical safety of our communities’ residents would be to address the plague of domestic violence with adequate resources. This has been true for many years, but it’s especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I expect the picture will improve as more of us get our vaccinations, the economy fully opens and federal relief heads our way on a variety of fronts. Indeed, we can look forward to a radical reversal of the local and national mood in the latter half of 2021. Soon we’ll be venturing into our communities with renewed confidence as the horrors of COVID-19 recede from memory. This is human nature.

At the same time, we must not forget that there still will be people living in stress and isolation, and they may include our family members, friends and neighbors. Focusing on their needs will make us all safer — and happier — in the long run.

• Sign of the times: A notice outside a local strip club: Sorry, we’re clothed until further notice.

• Tammy Silver asks what do you call a fish without eyes? A fsh.

• Word of advice: If you don’t pay your exorcist, you could be repossessed.

• Carolyn Castelli sends in this gem: Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. “I may look like just an ordinary guy,” he said to her, “But in just a few years my father will die and I will inherit $200 million.” Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother.

• Thought for the day. Doesn’t “expecting the unexpected” make the unexpected expected?

• And is it good if a vacuum really sucks?

• And in honor of 4/20 - some pot jokes:

Woodstock? Ans> A liar.

Why do you call a roach clip a roach clip? Ans> Because pot holder was taken.

How to File a DBAWhile County Offices

Are Closed Businesses are moving

forward, but County offices are still closed for in-person filings of fictitious business names and abandonments.

All filings are now done by mail. Forms are available and must be filled out online at lavote.net. After filled out the copy with the bar code must be printed out, then notarized and sent to the County offices in Norwalk (12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, CA 90650).

It is taking the County between two to four weeks to process new applications and send them back to the business owner. Once you receive the filed form with the purple stamp, it must be published in a newspaper for four weeks or it becomes invalid.

Valley Vantage can publish all legal notices including fictitious business names (DBA’s), abandonments, lien sale notices, summons, probate notices, ABC notices and more. The paper is adjudicated for all of Los Angeles County.

We publish notices for the required number of weeks and then file the proof with the County or the court.

Navigating The Leading Retail Destination Through A Pandemic:Meet The Leadership Team Behind Westfield Topanga & The Village

VNG: One year ago, Westfield Topanga & The Village had to shut its doors due to COVID-19. This put a lot of pressure on brick and mortar retail. What was that like and how did you overcome this?

Brian Parent: The impact of COVID-19 was challenging for both Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) as a company and the 300+ retailers across Topanga & The Village. However, despite the uncertainty that this past year has brought upon us, we were able to quickly pivot, innovate, and rise to the occasion by upholding the highest levels of health and safety standards for our guests, employees, and the community.

VNG: Ensuring a safe shopping environment is no easy task. What kind of precautionary measures were implemented at the center?

Ashley Itliong: From a customer service and amenity standpoint, we launched and continue to deliver programs like Curbside Pickup, which allows our customers to do their shopping from the comfort of their homes, then pick up their purchases or dining take-out from the comfort and safety of their vehicles and Answers on the Spot, a Concierge service that provides real-time responses via text or webchat.

For our dedicated shoppers who prefer to continue the joy of shopping in person, they can now skip the crowds and shop efficiently through Line Pass, a Westfield app-based virtual queuing and appointment service. Most recently, we went live with

Instant Deals, flash offers from your favorite brands at Westfield Topanga & The Village exclusively available on the Westfield app.

VNG: Now that LA County has moved into the orange tier, what can guests expect to find when they make their way back to your center?

Eliza Jeschke: Valley residents and local tourists alike will be delighted to discover new stores that have opened like Amazon 4-Star, H&M Home, Stance, and Scotch & Soda. Look no further for fun, safe and unique experiences like Sugar Rush, our newest candy-fueled walk-through activation that the entire family can enjoy.

For those who miss live concerts, we’ve brought back our Village LIVE! music series where you can listen to classic hits from various genres while dining-in or grabbing take-out from over 20

restaurants and fast casual eateries. We also have outdoor fitness events at The Village in partnership with 24 Hour Fitness and Healthy Spot, and our upcoming Mother’s Day Gift with Purchase event where Westfield Rewards members can redeem a complimentary floral arrangement from Via Floreal and up to $300 cash back.

Ashley Itliong: We continuously strive to surprise and delight our guests with the best brands, experiences, services and amenities. Most importantly, we strive to deliver world-class, mixed-use destinations that serve as “Better Places” bringing together our guests and the community at large.

His “Next Chapter” on RetiringWas Opening a Used Book Store

Boyd Davis in the stacks at Next Chapter Books.

By Kathleen Sterling“Oh, to be surrounded by

books,” said Lemony Snicket. It’s the dream of many a

serious reader, (including this writer) to have books within reach at any time, to be surrounded by books, to own a book store. (If you don’t know who Lemony Snicket is though, perhaps it’s not your dream.)

But is was for Boyd Davis, a retired naval navigator, who decided to navigate the world of booksellers instead.

In 2006, Davis rented a small store in Canoga Park and opened Next Chapter Books. He had no inventory, but borrowed books on consignment from other independent bookstores to fill some of his shelves.

He then went hunting on his own, had people walking in the door to sell books and had book scouts bringing boxes of books to sell, until he reached the over 38,000 volumes he has in the store today.

When you walk into the store you walk through what Davis calls the “Fine Arts Lobby,” which contains poetry, music, theatre, entertainment industry, biographical, photograph and art books.

There are some collectible books in a glass case near the front desk, but Next Chapter is more where you go for copies of the classics, a paperback novel, a book on a subject of interest, or a one-off title from years ago. In a nod to his past occupation, there’s a large military books section.

It’s what sets him off from a Barnes and Noble, Davis told Valley News Group. “I’ve got a zillion more titles, and some really obscure ones. I had a customer looking for a mystery written in 1948. He only knew it had ‘time’ in the title. But combing through our mystery section he found that

one particular book. He’d been looking for it for six or seven years.”

Davis cleans and makes minor repairs to the books if needed. He’s got good lighting above the stacks, so searching for titles is easy. The main part of the store is divided between non-fiction - history, philosophy, general biographies, metaphysics, sports

business, science and more, and the rest of the selection is literature, spy novels, children’s and young adult books, mystery and fantasy.

And does the reality of running a bookstore live up to the fantasy?

Davis laughed, “Moderately well. It takes a lot of work so I don’t get as much time to read as I thought.” Has he read them all? Davis laughs and says he’s a big reader - but a slow reader! The store also keeps him busy as he runs it himself. “I’m always trying to replace books on the shelves, handle incoming books and buying new ones. I try to read while having lunch at my desk.”

He prides himself that he’s one of a few independent bookstores still open in the valley. He credits that to a lot of SCORE counseling he got when he opened.

And now 15 years later, he’s still working his way through reading - and sharing - those 38,000 books.

Next Chapter Books is located at 21616 Sherman Way. Phone 704-5865 or visit nextchapterbooks.com. Gift certificates and book trade-ins available.

and travel restrictions lifted, spring break and forthcoming holiday events unfortunately welcome a fourth wave of virus infections and death. People are eager to return to normal life, but experts warn us that new infections, hospitalizations, and deaths are inevitable and on the rise, fueled by looser behaviors and the virus’ contagious variants.

This past year indicates that often the East Coast experiences increases in cases before California and other West Coast states, “Typically, L.A. County is a few weeks behind New York,” stated County Health Director, Barbara Ferrer. “There’s going to be a real temptation to go out and meet friends and the lagging nature of the coronavirus will spread a false sense of safety,” she added. At the same time, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, indicated she felt a sense of “impending doom.”

An increased timetable and expanded network of inoculation sites to administer the vaccines have been masterful efforts to outrun the virus, but the danger

persists. Simply stated, the epidemic and the pandemic are far from over. Special warnings have been issued to the young people cautioning the risk of social gatherings and celebrations, heightening the risk of coronavirus transmissions and especially endangering the vulnerable elderly population among us.

Earlier during pandemic days, we’ve seen surges of infectious cases after every single holiday – July 4th, Labor Day, Christmas – while California has been a late dater. However, other parts of the country rang the alarm, we either proceed with caution or awake to find some of our loved ones are gone forever.

Vaccines are essential! Get inoculated! Masks are very good protection as are distancing guidelines. Things are definitely getting looser – spending time with friends out of doors and hosting the occasional person inside. But hold off on the gatherings and celebrations a while longer. It may save your life and/or that of a loved one.

In addition, the robots allow for tiny, refined wrist-like movements that allow for better suturing. With the assistance of these robots, West Hills Hospital’s surgeons are able to perform a wide variety of medical procedures — often with less pain, easier recovery and better outcomes for patients. Robotics are often used to assist with colon,

“We are proud to offer robotic surgery as a treatment option,” said Mark Miller, president and CEO of West Hills Hospital. “It is an honor to be able to change so many lives for the better with technology that allows us to deliver better results for patients, with far less discomfort.”

By Laura LevinskyHe likes gambling, especially

the slots. His favorite food is Japanese, either Sushi or Teppanyaki style. He loves watching college basketball and football. If you aren’t going to root for his team, don’t get near him during the playoffs.

He goes for walks for the exercise several days a week.

He could be your neighbor.Ben is all these things, and

more. He is also an adult with autism.

He is one of the kindest, most caring individuals I know. When Ben hugs you, you know he means it.

So what if he can’t drive? There are lots of people who can’t or don’t drive. He still gets where he needs to when he needs to. So what if he has live-in staff to help him do everyday things. There are thousands of people in the area who have roommates. It hasn’t stopped him from doing the things he likes to do. He just has company when he does them.

If Ben offers to cook for you, take him up on the offer - he is a great cook. His pasta with shrimp is incredible.

Until recently Ben played basketball on a Special Olympics team. He loved playing - for the comraderie, the exercise, the crowd response when you make a great play. Sort of a typical thing? You bet.

Society thinks of many adults with autism as atypical. But autism is a spectrum with varying characteristics. Where many people don’t understand humor, Ben has a wicked sense of humor. Lots of adults and children with autism have very limited diets, Ben has a very expansive palette.

What he isn’t is scary to be around, weird or strange. He is Ben. Just Ben. And just as no one of us want to be thought of as any of those things, neither does he. He is just one more person living his life every day.

Until it closed, he had a job at the ReStore in Chatsworth. He was in charge of the merchandising of the tile and flooring department. Up until the pandemic, he delivered for Meals on Wheels and volunteered at One Generation.

When one person on his staff died suddenly, we all thought Ben would struggle with the change. We were wrong. Ben not only coped, he opted to speak at the memorial service, and did so most eloquently. I’ve had the opportunity to hear Ben in job interviews. He gives the best interviews I’ve ever heard. He is calm, self-assured and willing to learn and work. Hire him and he will be there when you say.

Ben is remarkably sociable. He attends an ARC-sponsored program on Saturdays. He hangs out with friends, and even has a girlfriend. He goes to movies, sporting events and concerts. When his family is out of town, he hangs out with me. Movies, lunch, holiday gatherings at other people’s houses – he is happy to join in and be accepted.

Mostly he is just Ben. Just like any of us.

When you hear about someone having autism don’t shy away or leave them out. Bring them into your world, and allow them to just be themselves. They are just like the rest of us. They are just Ben.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s COVID-19 Funeral Assistant Program is now accepting applications for reimbursement of funeral expenses of deaths caused by coronavirus.

Even though large gatherings have been banned or discouraged, there are still significant costs involved with arranging a funeral - even during COVID.

There are mortuary costs, transport costs, burial or creation fees - not to mention the costs for clergy, social media sharing and more.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet three specific criteria.

The death must have occurred in the United States, the death certificate must state the death was attributed to COVID-19 and the applicant must be a US citizen, non-citizen national or qualified non-citizen who incurred funeral expenses.

Applicants may also apply for multiple deceased individuals or multiple people who contributed may apply under a single application as co-applicants.

FEMA’s financial assistant is limited to a maximum of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,500 per application.

Atrium Topanga carries over 2000 cannabis products.

Atrium Topanga Readies for 4/20As April 20 approaches,

the staff at Atrium Topanga dispensary are gearing up for the surge that will surely happen next Tuesday.

4/20 is an unofficial counterculture holiday to celebrate and consume marijuana.

The rumor is that it started in Marin County in 1971, when five high school students felt they should be able to smoke. They gathered at the campus statue of chemist Louis Pasteur to smoke at 4:20 pm and began to use the code 420 for marijuana. One of the five reportedly knew Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, so the term was supposedly spread in popularity by the band. Even though marijuana is now legal, the mystique of 4/20 remains.

Now 50 years later, Atrium is ready to celebrate the day with over 2,000 items in stock - all presented under modern glass display cases. The dispensary looks more like a luxury department store that offers a full line of cannabis products - with a variety of premium flower, elegant vape pens, delectable edibles and quality high-potency concentrates. They also offer a wide range of more relaxation-oriented items such as infused teas and soothing topicals, such as bath bombs, body oils and tinctures.

Atrium Budtender Robert Meguerditian has been at the job for 13 years. Before he starts his day on the sales floor, he studies new products, learns the specials of the day, and checks messages so if a customer is asking for something in particular he has all the details before they walk in.

“It took me about three months to know all the products since our inventory is so large,” he told Valley News Group. The most frequently asked for items? “Flowers and concentrate,” he said. “They get lucky asking me because I’m a little more educated when it comes to concentrate. I had a car accident and needed to use it for my knee. I started out at first as a consumer, then got into budtending.” He laughed and said, “I smoked in high school - didn’t everyone? But now I’m on the other side and really know the medical benefits of cannabis.”

He explained that concentrate goes into almost everything - edibles, gummies and lotions.

According to Meguerditian, almost 95% of their clientele are recreational users. The other 5% are looking for medical relief.

Does he get a lot of first timers who’ve never smoked and are curious? “I just get them the best to start out with,” he explained. “If they are first-timers

they usually tell us up front. They tell me what they’re looking for and we always have it!”

Meguerditian has suggestions for them all.

For pure smoking pleasure he recommends Napalm - “Number one in my book,” he says. “Or I suggest CVX.”

For pain relief he says it’s not so much the product but the limit, how much cannabis is in it. He prefers Mary’s Medicinal for tinctures, capsules and creams.

For beauty, Papa and Barkley Repair Cream is good for dry skin and bruising - but also great for pain relief.

Not sure what to ask for from the Atrium’s high-tech showcases? Any of their budtenders can talk to you about what best suits your needs - from flowers to edibles to gummies and more.

The Atrium is located at 5441 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, at the corner of Topanga and Clarendon.

They are open Monday to Saturday 8 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 10 pm.

Curbside pickup orders are available, as is delivery. Get 15% off with promo code “delivery.” Also receive 20% off your first visit. Daily specials are offered at Atrium -where cannabis meets luxury.

Johnson & Johnson Vaccines On Hold After Blood Clot ReportsJohnson & Johnson have

temporarily suspended all COVID-19 vaccines after reports of serious blood clotting in vaccinated females.

Six women between the ages of 18 and 48 developed

blood clots six to 13 days after being inoculated, leading to one death and one hospitalization.

Johnson & Johnson was making up 4% of California’s vaccine supply. The CDC is currently reviewing the blood clot causes

and decided to suspend vaccines in an abundance of caution. They still encourage all who are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, citing these effects are extremely rare and should not discourage anyone from getting vaccinated.

As Californians, we’re all used to these questions... Was that what I thought it was? How big do you think that one was?

Earthquake Warning California is trying to bring some clarity to these questions with their newest app MyShake.

As the state’s earthquake early warning system, it provides tools and resources to warn Californians before they feel shaking. The system relies on innovative technology that sends warnings to smartphone applications, operating systems, and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA).

While most may have previously downloaded the app “ShakeAlertLA,” it has been officially retired as of December 2020. Rather, the City is encouraging everyone to download the latest “MyShake” which covers the whole state, not just LA.

Wireless Emergency

California Introduces New Earthquake Detection App “MyShake”

“ShakeAlertLA,” has been officially retired as of December 2020. Rather, the City is encouraging everyone to download the latest “MyShake.”

Alerts sends geographically targeted, text-like messages to mobile devices to warn users of imminent threats in their area.

Authorized national, state, or local government authorities

can send WEA warnings for incidents such as Amber Alerts, severe weather warnings, or earthquakes with a magnitude greater than 5.0.

Users must “opt-in” on their mobile device settings to allow WEA notifications and allow location services to be on. The app is free for both Apple and Android users.

“Inventory Insanity” Makes It Hard to Find a Home By Michael Bloom

Inventory has been tight for a long time now, but this spring it is even more difficult to find a home.

According to N.A.R. the National Association of Realtors, “Across the country, 39% of homes during the prior four weeks sold above their listing prices. That was 15 percentage points higher than what was happening during the same period one year earlier. Battles between buyers are more intense than ever. Furthermore, the pandemic has changed buyer behavior, buyers are putting more money down, waiving contingencies, and 34.4% are paying above asking price.”

Data from Zillow shows that in February 2021, the number of homes for sale in the U.S. was down 30% from February 2020.

According to Jeff Tucker, senior economist for Zillow, “The roots of this current inventory shortage date back more than a decade, when housing construction mostly stopped in the wake of the housing bubble collapse, Ever since 2007, we were radically under-building.

Builders had a harder time financing projects and there was less demand for the product they

were making. The housing crash was just so much worse for the home building industry than any other industry. And a lot of that capacity for building homes went away. This is a lasting scar for this industry.”

Danielle Hale, Chief Economist for Realtor.com, describes how the pandemic has contributed - “Usually the way market economies

work is, if you don’t have enough of something, the price goes up and that incentivizes people to produce more. In this case, it should incentivize homeowners to sell their home.”

The luxurious movie palaces that dominated the cinema in the first half of the 20th century often featured ornate lobbies and auditoriums, plush seats, and huge, glittering chandeliers. Los Angeles boasts the first and largest historic theater district on the National Register of Historic Places. Along six blocks of South Broadway, 12 theaters, built between 1910 and 1931, dominated the area.

But that’s not the story of movie theaters in the San Fernando Valley. With the post-World War II boom, neighborhood theaters proliferated; architecturally, they were usually spartan rather than sumptuous. Like a book with a glorious four-color cover but black-and-white pages, the Valley’s theaters’ marquees hinted at an elegance that rarely existed within their four walls.

Among those who lived in the Valley in this era there is great nostalgia for the more than 30 neighborhood theatres that dotted the region. Mention to anyone who was a Valley kid from the forties to the sixties a favorite theater and a smile of fond memories instantly appears.

Jan Sobel, the retired CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, recalls that her uncle, Max Torodor, owned and operated the Panorama Theatre at 9110 Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City. It opened on December 19, 1949, with a single

Clockwise from above: On Oct. 26,1965, The Topanga Theatre, with 1,350 seats, opened with The Bedford Incident, starring Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier. Competition became increasingly tough, with the 16-screen AMC multiplex opening a block away, and nearby GCC Woodland Hills Triplex, the UA Warner Center 6 and the Baronet Theatre. It eventually became a furniture store and died an ignominious death in September 2007. The Encino Theatre opened on August 10, 1949, with Bob Hope in Sorrowful Jones. It was torn down in the mid ’70s. Today it’s the site of a large retail building, with Claudine’s Bakery. The Cinema Chatsworth, on the southeast corner of Devonshire Street and Mason Avenue, opened on June 29, 1966 with Arabesque, starring Gregory Peck. Over its short life, it was managed by various chains, including Century Theatres, Loews and General Cinema. In 1980 it was renamed Cinema 76 and screened Spanish-language movies. By the early-1990s, it was shuttered and converted into retail space.

screen and 1,000 seats, playing Always Leave Them Laughing, with Milton Berle and Virginia Mayo; actor Andy Devine was on hand for the opening ceremonies.

She recalls that the theatre featured a “crying room,” with about 20 seats, where parents could bring their small children or infants. The crying room had a sound system and a large plate glass window, so parents

could enjoy the film without a crying child disturbing the rest of the theater’s patrons.

On the Cinema Treasures website, one reader commented, “My grandfather, Max Torodor, was one of the three original partners. My father, Don Torodor, managed the theater for many years. I remember spending so much of my childhood there helping the ‘candy girls’ as we

called them and having crushes on the ushers. I also remember my sister and I being allowed to go up to the projection room with Forest, the projectionist, and watch the movies from there. It always had a wonderful musty smell combined with the smell of buttered popcorn.”

With a tip of the usher’s cap to the tons of popcorn devoured, candy bars consumed,

and soft drinks guzzled, these are a few of the Valley’s movie theaters that flourished in the decades following World War II:

• Burbank: Loma, Magnolia, and Major.

• Canoga Park: Baronet, Canoga (now the Madrid), and Mann Fallbrook Twin.

• City of San Fernando: Centre, Crest, and Fernando.

• North Hills: Airport.• Panorama City: America,

Loew’s Panorama, and Panorama. • Tarzana: Corbin.• Sherman Oaks: La

Reina, now converted into a shopping destination, and Action.

• Studio City: Fox Studio.• Van Nuys: Capri

and Fox Van Nuys.• West Hills: Holiday. • Woodland Hills: Art,

Valley Circle, and Topanga. Many theaters were

named after the communities in which they were situated, including the Burbank, Reseda, Northridge, and Woodland Hills.

One of the more elegant motion picture houses was the Encino Theater, at 16342 Ventura Boulevard. According to the December 18, 1948, issue of Boxoffice magazine, “Contract has been awarded for construction of Charles Menderson’s new theatre at Ventura Boulevard and Neoline [sic] Street here. The structure will provide 950 seats and will be built with wood

was dismissing was for the now classic Citizen Kane that would star Orson Wells in the title role.

In the entertaining biopic Mank, movie buffs get the chance to go back in time to Hollywood’s Golden Era. They also get the chance to learn more about Hollywood moguls like Irving Thalberg, Jack Warner and Louis B. Mayer.

Mank, written by the late Jack Fincher who died in 2003, was directed by Fincher’s son David. Their film collaboration’s 10 Oscar nominations are quite an accomplishment.

It’s interesting to note that the only Oscar that actor/director Orson Welles and screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz ever won was for co-writing the script for Citizen Kane released in 1941. However Mank, the film about their collaboration on Citizen Kane, could be honored with countless golden trophies.

Mank is rated R for some language .
