HSSE at ANSATECH Making Strides in the ANSA McAL

In 2013 ANSA Technologies Limited hosted its first Health and SafetyWeek at our offices located at # 40 Cipero Road, San Fernando. Thefocus of this event named “Safety is the way of Life” was to educateour employees, our customers and community on our Health, Safetyand Environmental lines as well as practices conducted by ANSATechnologies Limited, which can be applied for commercial andresidential use.

During this period, with theassistance of our exhibitors wewere able to provide basicCardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) Training for adults, kids andbabies, provide medical testing forour employees, customers andattendees; conduct cancerscreening tests, eye examinations,blood pressure and glucosetesting; simulate tests on theeffects of drunken driving andprovide nutritional advice onproper eating techniques.

We were also able to showcase ourlatest environmental lines whichinclude Munox SR and Corksorb,give real time demonstrations onhow to contain and eliminate oiland chemical spills; educateparticipants on our existing linesfrom Kimberly Clark for ournewest line of Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) and highlight thedifferent equipment used to detectnoise pollution and aircontaminants.

In March 2013, ANSA Technologies Limited achieved 500 Days withoutany Lost Time Incidents - a well deserved milestone, due to the benefitsof hard work and commitment from both the strategic and operationalstaff at “ANSA Tech”.

Over the years Safety Awareness at ANSA Technologies Limited hasgrown considerably. Additional Safety Training/Workshop and SafetyCompetitions created active participation from all employees with theintent to further highlight the importance of safety and good practiceson a daily basis.Topics were designed to encourage employees to practice safety, notonly at work but at their homes as well. ANSA Tech believes that if wecan get the employees to take safety to their home it will eventually beadopted by the communities and return to the various jobsitesnationwide, making Trinidad and Tobago a truly safe workingenvironment.

Managers are also required to conduct Monthly Safety Inspections andreport any non-conformances.

Having such high beliefs,Management took a decision todrive Safety at all levels withinthe organization. Safety is thefirst topic discussed at all BoardMeetings and MonthlyManagement Meetings. The HSSECommittee also includesmembers of the ManagementTeam. In 2012 Safety relatedKPI’s were included in theManagement’s Team AppraisalSystem and continues to this day.

The Phoenix Project

Improved credit and receivables management allowing for a reduction in debtor provisions.Proper Project Cost Management integrating seamlessly with the General Ledger Module.Security of data through controls and audit trails.

Approval was granted for the replacement of Platinum for Windows withMicrosoft Dynamics GP. The Project was launched in April 2013 and a“Name the Project” competition which was won by Ms. Gail Mahabir withthe name “PROJECT PHOENIX” was initiated.

Implementation of this project willallow ANSA Technologies realtime integration between itsSales, Purchasing, Inventory,General Ledger and Projectsfunctions allowing for morestreamlined operations and morestringent controls to beimplemented. Expected benefitsinclude:

Improved inventory management resulting in reduction in inventory provisions.

Easier access to a range of reports and report developmenttools improving the availability of decision supportinformation.

Having completed the installation, transfer of data fromPlatinum to GP and training of employees, Project Phoenixwent live during the first week of October 2013.

Strengthening the Focus –Project Management Training

In April, 2013, ANSA Technologies initiatedProject Management Training which servedas a refresher course to some employeesand allowed all members of theEngineering and Construction team tointegrate common services of forma thedivisions Automation and Project andConstruction while streamline services, inaccordance with new policies andtheoretical practices.

The workshop was conducted by Mr.Rodney Jagai a current member of theProject Management ProfessionalsLocal Chapter and a former ManagingDirector of ANSA Technologies Limited.Certificates for all attending employeeswere awarded on August, 26th 2013.Congratulations to the team.

Over a 4 month period, we were ableto review the fundamentals as wellas the latest techniques in customersatisfaction, conduct assessments invarious modules and improve as acohesive unit to represent ANSATechnologies Limited on the field.

Withthe accumulation of experience in the various fields of IndustrialElectrical Installation, Calibration and Routine Maintenance ofInstallations, High, Medium and Low Voltage Installations and theinstallation of DCS and SI Systems to name a few, ANSA Technologieshas positioned the company to cover Industrial and CommercialElectrical and Control systems in its entirety.

In June, 2013 Chief Financial Officer – Mr. Clyde D. Sant retired after 31 years in the ANSA McAL Group and 10 years with ANSA Technologies Limited.

While his core focus will be on Financial Management for ANSATechnologies, he hopes to mentor not only his staff but all employees,encouraging professional and personal development which will not onlybe beneficial to the company but also to the individuals.

Mr. Soman also comes to us in a time when ANSA Technologies Limitedis implementing procedures and practices and has joined the PhoenixProject team in the adaptation of new practices and procedures.

In September, 2013 ANSA Technologies recruitedMrs. Jamilla Ali Gopaul to fill the position of HumanResource Coordinator.

Mrs. Ali-Gopaul brings to the table over 8 yearsexperience in Performance Management andIndustrial Relations. Mrs. Ali-Gopaul took up officein a time where the ANSA McAL Group is rapidlyevolving in the Human Resource InformationSystems area and has taken up the mantel for ANSATechnologies Limited.

Her main focus is to align and upgrade ANSATECH’scurrent HR System to comply with Group andIndustrial Policies and work with the ManagementTeam to ensure best HR Practices.

On October 1st and 2nd 2013 Marketing and Sales Manager, Mr. NigelJoseph and Turn Around Manager, Mr. Simon Boodoosingh attended aCaribbean Water and Waste Water Association (CWWA) Conference andExhibit held at Hilton in Barbados.

At the Conference the InternationalSales Manager, Mr. Jeff Lyons ofFord Meter Products presented uswith an honorary awardhighlighting ANSATECH’s sales forFord Meter Box products to thetune of One Million US Dollars for2012.Apart from the Trinidad market,for which ANSA TechnologiesLimited are the agents, we alsosupply Ford Meter Box Products toGrenada and Barbados.

A Helping Hand through Corporate Social Responsibility

As we continue to look at ourenvirons through community basedprojects, ANSA Technologies inpartnership with the non profitorganization “Without Walls”embarked on three projects, two ofwhich have already been realized. A“Food Drive” was held in June 2013and a “Back to School Drive”, heldin August, 2013.

The Food Drive, was done entirelyby the staff of ANSATECH.Employees contributed nonperishable items which assisted inexcess of fifty families in theunder privileged areas of oursouth community. ANSATechnologies donated janitorialpacks which comprised oftoiletries to include soap, toiletpaper, disinfectant, air freshenersand garbage bags during thisdrive.

The Back to School Drive, an alliance ofANSATECH and its employees catered to 50families. The event took place onIndependence day. Here we were able toprovide not only backpacks but basicstationary items e.g. pens, pencils, notebooks, file folders, crayons, drawing booksetc. The donations were prepared forchildren from ages 4 to 12 years old. It wasanother successful event. Our next plannedevent with Without Walls is the KidsChristmas Explosion.
