0730-1800 Point of Care Ultrasound Course
Symphony IV
This is a one day Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Course designed for the physician assistant in cardiovascular sur-gery, staffed by physician assistants who are at the cutting edge of POCUS education from the Society of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (SPOCUS).
The course will begin with a brief overview of ultrasound fundamentals (physics/knobology/modes) to gain an un-derstanding as to how the ultrasound machine works. We will then move to understand protocol driven ultrasound that better utilizes ultrasound to answer specific questions to specific problems (when is the patient hypotensive, why is the patient short of breath, etc.). The course will explore the extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (eFAST), Rapid Ultrasound for Shock and Hypoten-sion (RUSH), Bedside Lung Ultrasound in Emergency (BLUE) protocols and will focus specifically on the aspects of ultra-sound related to the arena of critical care (cardiac, lung/pleural, renal/genitourinary, abdominal aorta). Other top-ics important to the CVPA, such as vein mapping and nee-dle placement techniques will also be presented.
