Having recently launched its first permanent physical art space on the 5th December 2014, Arts-Mart The Gallery is embracing their reputation as pioneers in revolutionising the art experience in the region by opening its door on Friday 30th January 2015 to a cutting-edge exhibition titled “The Artists of Tomorrow”.

The exhibition showcases works of art created by seven of the most promising talents in the contemporary Egyptian art scene who have been meticulously handpicked for their calibre, vision and artistic range including Mohamed El Damarawy, Mohamed Sharkawy, Mohamed Rabie, Aya El Fallah, Lina Mowafy, El Zaeem Ahmad and Omar Abdel Zaher. Rich in character and style, the art exhibited documents a variety of themes, from exploring the challenges of residing in the city of Cairo to the modern portrayal of the country’s heritage.

With this engaging and stimulating exhibition, Arts-Mart The Gallery is participating in the global art dialogue by enabling the next generation of artists to contribute to the art scene and making the future of Egyptian art accessible to the public. Arts-Mart Co-founder and participating artist Lina Mowafy explains, “We understand the importance of positioning the artists as the promising avant-garde artists that they truly are. Arts-Mart The Gallery is not simply making art accessible, it is educating the public on the future of art and introducing them to these ‘Artists of Tomorrow’.”

Born in 1966, he obtained a specialization in graphics and has a PhD in Fine Arts. Abdelzaher is famous for his humorous and often romantic portrayals of Egyptian women in particular. His subjects are usually dreamy and serene, as if caught in a love trance. Abdelzaher often paints courting couples in casinos and wandering freely in the countryside. His work is exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and the Cultural Development Fund.

Mohamed Rabie was born in 1986 in the beautiful southern city of Menya. Rabie’s artwork is deep rooted to his hometown. It is a very layered blend of the different eras and cultures that constitute the rich heritage of the south. He constantly extracts concepts and themes from Egyptian heritage and translates them very successfully into a contemporary visual. The simplicity of these visuals makes the viewer immediately connect with the characters depicted in his paintings and completely engulfs the viewer into the life these characters are living. With his stylistic modern work and amazing colours, Rabie is one artist that we believe is going places.

Born in Suhag in 1977 and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ganoub Al Wadi University in Luxor. ElZaeem is an extremely active artist and has participated in countless group exhibitions. biennales, festivals and solo shows. As an artist, Ahmad enjoys a truly unique style that he is very clever at deploying. His life-like characters are almost pharaonic in form and structure, a clear influence from his life in Upper Egypt. His colours are mellow, soft and subtle. His characters demand attention and their presence is felt instantly.

Egyptian visual artist Aya El Fallah lives and works in Cairo. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University with honors. Her artwork is very personal .Every piece she produces coincides with a particular event and place in her life documenting her emotional and mental states at that point. Her success as an artist is in the way she captures the viewer into her world and her experiences that she simply painted on her canvas. At a very young age Aya managed to create a mark for herself as an artist making her standout among many of her peers.

By taking daily life as subject matter, Mowafy’s artwork explore the themes of living in Cairo, motherhood, feminist ideals and complicated human bonds. Commenting on the everyday aesthetic of Egyptian values, Mowafy creates intense personal moments using a very vibrant & lively palette. In her search for new methods to ‘read the city’, she often creates work that is chaotic, exciting & layered, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric elements. The idea of human contact with architecture and basic living elements is a recurrent theme in Mowafy’s work. Energy, space and landscape are examined in less obvious ways and sometimes developed in absurd ways.

Born in 1980, El-Damarawy is a promising and very talented artist on the rise. His work is full of character and he explores traditional themes in very creative colourful ways. Like many younger artists, El- Damarawy has been heavily influenced by the ‘pioneer’ generation of artists and has very cleverly and skillfully weaved this passion into his own work to create a very special and unique character. El-Damarawy’s characters are typical Egyptian, a clear reference to the art and depictions of Ancient Egypt, by which he is deeply intrigued. His wonderful compositions and brilliant use of colour guarantee this artist a place amongst the coming generation of Egyptian greats.

Mohamed El Sharkawy was born in Giza in 1980. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education. El-Sharkawy is a very popular up-and-coming artist who paints colourful pleasant depictions of everyday events in Egypt. He is very fond of using gold leaf in a lot of his work, blending in colour (and sometimes silver leaf) flawlessly. El-Sharkawy has a wide range of styles and produces abstract work that is just as stunning as his more characteristic gold leaf artworks. Weddings, moulids, walks on the corniche and a day at the beach or in the circus are all painted almost impressionistically, with adorable details- all in an exciting dynamic composition. He has participated in many exhibitions and his work has been acquired by collectors both in Egypt and abroad.
