The Articles were created during the Revolutionary War, in 1777, after the Second Continental Congress declared Independence.

Approved by all 13 states by 1781.

The “Confederation Congress” Confederation

means “united in a league” (like friends). Supportive of each other, but independent too.

The Founding Fathers created a government through the Articles that had good ideas, but it had weaknesses as well. It only worked for 10 years.
