Aspects of a Long Snap

Pre-Snap Routine
• A pre-snap routine is the routine the Long Snapper goes through every time he approaches the football before a snap
• A pre-snap routine should be maintained in order to better control nerves in pressure situations
Form
• Feet straight, outside shoulder width
• Weight evenly distributed in feet
• Hips back• Flat Back• Arms Extended
Snap
• Extend legs completely• Keep head still• Release ball at feet• Follow through with
arms extended, eyes to the punter, and thumbs up
Blocking
• Once the ball is snapped, retreat backwards while maintaining your balance and center of gravity
• Be able to cover 1-yards to the left and right
