Progress Scores

The Progress score will be calculated based on the percentage of a school’s students demonstrating typical or high growth via their Student Growth Percentiles (SGP).

A SGP describes a student’s growth on state tests relative to other students statewide with similar prior achievement. A student’s growth percentile can range from 1 to 99, and every student’s SGPs may earn points towards the Progress Score.

Median vs MeanThe median is a better indicator of central tendency if a set of scores has outliers.

Suppose we use a sample of 10 households to estimate typical family income. Nine of the households have incomes between $75,000 and $100,000, but the tenth household has an annual income of $700,000.

If we calculate the income of a typical household, the mean will greatly over-estimate the income of a typical family -- because of the outlier -- while the median will not.

include but are not limited to-participation in Charter System status, students enrolled in a Georgia College and Career Academy, partner participation in Race to the TOP award, participation in Striving Reader initiative, participation in dual language immersion program, participation in Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and/or Mathematics Design Collaborative (MDC), comprehensive implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

Simplified:If the indicator performance percentage is above the benchmark, award 10 points for the indicator.

If not, divide the performance percentage by the benchmark.(35.5 divided by 59.1 = 60.1)

Divide by 10. (60.1 divided by 10 = 6.01)

Round to the nearest tenth. (60.1 = 6)

Add up the results for both indicators. (14.8)

Divide by the points possible. (14.8 divided by 20 = .74)

Multiply the total points possible by .74.(.74 X 21 Possible Points = 15.54)
