The IQAC has organized various seminars on academic and extracurricular activities to make students

The IQAC constituted the Theme of the Year as “Youth the Future of

The college supplements the lecture method by organizing guest lectures by eminent
personalities from the industry and by the ex-students.

The Teaching Faculty also being a member of the IQAC is in continual communication
with the students to educate them on the various student support services in the
college. The students are encouraged to avail the benefits from the various student
support services.
An official Handbook is give to the students at the beginning of the Academic year, the
handbook contains complete information of the various rules and regulation of the
college and the various student support services and mechanism in the college, it also
includes the annual schedule of all activities to be conducted.
Internet facility is provided to the students in the computer lab , the students are
encourage to use the internet facility to enhance their knowledge and as an aid to
education.
An Open Day is conducted after the Term End where the result of each student is
handed over to their respective Parents/ Guardians. The Teaching faculty has a one to
one communication with each Parent/Guardian to update them on the student’s
performance in academics, co-curricular and extra -curricular activities
The Parents/Guardians are encouraged to promote their students in extra- curricular
and co-curricular activities for all round development and to keep continuous
communication with the teaching faculty to keep a track of the student’s progress

Theme of the Year
“YOUTH THE FUTURE OF INDIA ”
F.Y.B.Com & Std. XI Orientations
F.Y.B.Com Classes commenced in full swing on 20th June, 2013 with a three-day Orientation
programme by Bro. Steven and Bro. Yesu from De Nobili College. The Orientation programme
for Std XI was conducted by Bro. Jerry and Bro. Patrick on 26 & 27 July. They conducted
different 'Ice Breaking' games to help the students to get to know each other well. During the
three days they dealt with many topics such as 'Time Management', 'Study Skills', 'Personality
Development' and 'Positive Thinking'. The sessions were very dynamic and interesting. The
orientation program set the tone for beginning the new academic year with gusto.
Talk on St. Ignatius of Loyola
31' July is not only a day Jesuits remember and cherish but all the Jesuit institutions look
forward to it. On the eve of the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Bro. Sandeep Jagtap, S.J., gave an
inspiring talk to the students of F.Y.B.Com on the life and the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola and
the Jesuits. Students were inspired and amazed by the way the Jesuit organisation functions. On
this special occasion our College Handbook was released by our principal, Dr. Anil B. Adsule.
Students Body Inaugural Function
On 9 Aug, 2013 the various student bodies of St. Vincent College were inaugurated for the
academic year 2013-14. Dr. Anil Adsule, our principal conferred various portfolios of the
Student's Council, AICUF and M.T.V.M. to student representatives. Fr. James Selvaraj, S.J., the
Manager, Prof. Joseph Panackal, the Vice-Principal spoke on the importance of student body for
overall development of students in the College. The new Student's Council took pledge of
dedicated, committed and selfless service for the development and well-being of students and the
College. The management and staff promised their support to help make the students body more
active and vibrant. Our chief guest for the evening, C A Mukesh Kuwad, spoke on importance of
capital market and various job opportunities in the financial market. The programme concluded
with the vote of thanks by Mr. Martin Bhingare.
Patriotic Singing & Poster Competitions Competitions
for the academic year 2013-14 began with the Patriotic singing and poster competitions held on
14th August. Large number of students took part to show their patriotism in the form of patriotic
singing and poster making. The theme of the poster competition was Youth-future of India? The
posters prepared by the students spoke of their efforts and thoughts with regard to the Nation
Building. The posters were displayed on the corridors giving the college a colourful look. The
patriotic singing competition enthralled the audience. The competition was conducted in three
sessions for the different classes to enable the students to get a chance to come on stage. The

students displayed an impressive and an outstanding performance. It was delightful to see and
hear our young budding singers make the audience tap their feet to songs. All in all, it was the
showcase of hidden talents of student and to exhibit love and appreciation to our nation and
national leaders. Judges for the events were Schs. Amit, S.J., Francis Lobo, S.J., Jesus, S.J., Mr.
Carlos Duprat, Mrs. Shaheen Sayed, Mr. Yogesh Mate and Mr. Francis if Souza. The judges also
sang patriotic songs and made all the students to sing with them.
College Placement Cell Placement & Training Cell in-charge
, Prof. Gilbi John organized placement drive for the current Graduates of 2012-13 batch on 2t
July, 2013, where two of our students got selected. Mr. Renson Vas and Ms. Freeda Sequiera
brought the H.R's of reputed Financial Services to conduct these interviews in our College
campus. The college would like to thank them for their efforts. Mr. Renson Vas has a total of 10
years experience in consulting houses like Tech Mahindra. Ms. Freeda Sequiera has 30 years
experience in corporate world. She is a certified Financial Planner & has worked with companies
like Thermax Honeywell. They both will train our students for facing interviews, soft skills, and
personality development and also on skills of writing a resume.
Jr. College Fresher's Party 16 August, 2013
was marked as a memorable day in the life of every Junior College Fresher. The Fresher's day
celebration was filled with excitement, joy, music, enthusiasm, laughter and happiness. The
celebration started at 5.00 pm with an opening prayer. The dress code for the Fresher's day was
'Traditional'. The seniors put up various performances like dancing, singing etc., to entertain the
juniors. The programme was well conducted by Ms. Daphne Vas and Ms. Simran Manik. Ms.
Stella Mendonca (Std. XI) Traditional and Fresher's Day On Saturday, 17 Aug, 2013 the senior
college celebrated Traditional Day at Oesch Hall. It was a wonderful experience to see so many
beautiful dresses representing different culture and tradition. On the same day the College
celebrated fresher's day to welcome the students of F.Y.B.Com. Our Vice Principal Prof. Joseph
Panackal gave a welcome speech and encouraged the freshers to excel in studies as well as
extracurricular activities. Mr. Ningreiso Malue (Koko), Mr. Rainy Pagare and Ms. Venessa
Mendis welcomed the students with a melodious song. Mr. Uves Shaikh and Mr. Rohit Tiwari
performed a skit which entertained the entire audience. Mr. Harshal Sathe and group performed
a beautiful dance. Mr. Rainy Pagare and Mr. Mario Maduram mesmerized the audience with a
beautiful song 'Chahu mein ya naa'. The program ended with a sumptuous dinner served to all. It
was indeed a pleasant surprise for the freshers which shall always be remembered by them.
Jun-Sep 2013 Diploma Convocation Ceremony
On 24th August 2013, our college organised the convocation ceremony of the first batch of
diploma students which passed out in 2012-2013 with flying colours. The ceremony was graced
with the presence of our Principal, Dr. Anil B. Adsule who gave away the certificates. Vice
Principal, Prof. Joseph Panackal, and Manager, Fr. James Selvaraj SJ also graced the auspicious
occasion. Students of senior college entertained the gathering with mesmerizing melodies.

Snacks were served after the ceremony to mark the happiness and joy. Congratulations to all the
diploma students ! Mr. Blesson Varghese (M.Com - II) Talent Hunt Competition A talent hunt
competition was held on 30th August, 2013 at the Oeash Hall. The purpose of this competition
was to realize the students' hidden potential and to explore their horizons. The competition was
divided into 3 sections of Junior, Senior and M .Com. The judges for the competition were Bro.
Francis, Bro. Jesus and Mr. Denzil. A large number of students took part in different events like
solo and group singing, solo and group dances, skits etc. The programme left both the judges and
audience enthralled. The programme concluded with the declaration of winners. Mr. Harshit
Negandhi (S.Y.B.Com) M.Com Fresher's Day The students of M.Com II organized the fresher's
party to welcome the Diploma and M.Com - Part I students on 315t August, 2013. The function
was planned meticulously by the seniors. Mr. Blesson Varghese and Ms. Narissa Robin who
were the Masters of Ceremony carried the show in a pleasant manner with lots fun and humor. A
small Power Point Presentation was prepared by Ms. Puja Salve to introduce the professors to
the students. Some delightful songs were sung by Mr. Ningreiso (Koko) and Ms. Varsha Bhagat.
A special dance by Mr. Harshal Sathe and group stole the show. To add some fun to the evening
a few games were organized by Mr. Ginish and Ms. Puja. The party ended with a delicious
dinner. A special thanks to our co-ordinator Fr. James Selvaraj for all his support to us.
Teacher's Day
The student's council celebrated teacher's day on 10 Sep, 2013. A few dances and songs were put
up in gratitude to our teachers. Some heart-touching poems were also recited for our teachers. A
couple of games were organized to add to the entertainment. Towards the end prizes were
distributed to the winners of the talent hunt competition, Mehendi competition and the national
level winners at St. Xavier's college. The teachers were also given gifts as a token of our
appreciation and gratitude towards them. The memorable evening ended with tasty snacks
served to all the students and staff.
Inter-College Competition
Impulse 2013 at Christ College An inter-college competition, 'Impulse -13' was held at Christ
College, Pune on the 13 - 14 Sep, 2013. A total of 27 colleges took part in the event. There were
various events like singing, dancing, Quiz, business plan, power point presentation, street play
etc., and about 40 students participated in the event. Once again our students brought laurels to
the college by winning five prizes (four second prizes and one third prize). They secured second
prize in the following events: Street Play, Group Dance, Business Plan and Quiz and a third
prize in Group Song. Hats Off ! to the participants.
Vidyarthini Manch - Mehendi Competition
Mehendi symbolizes the beauty of a girl. Mother Teresa Vidyarthini Manch had organized a
Mehendi Competition on 4 September, 2013. Students from junior college, senior college and
M.Com participated in this competition in large numbers. Students' hands were decorated with
Arabic and Indian designs of mehendi. All the students enthusiastically participated in the
competition and enjoyed themselves. Judges for the Mehendi Competition were Mrs. Waheeda

Vidyarthini Manch - Skill Development Programme
On 19 September 2013, an innovative workshop was organized by Mother Teresa Vidyarthini
Manch for the girl students to develop their skills in preparing paper flowers and designs. Bro.
Francis Lobo SJ was the resource person. He showed the students a PPT presentation on creating
decorative articles like flowers and photo frames. The participants were then taught to make
lovely colourful flowers out of tissue paper and ribbons. He also shared various tips on
creativity. The students enjoyed the session and were very eager to learn more. The seminar
helped to develop the creative ideas within the students and to bring out their hidden talents.
Guest Lectures and Workshops
Personality Development Seminar On the 24th of August 2013 Mother Teresa Vidyarthini
Manch organized a personality development class for our college girls. It was held by Hindustan
Unileaver Ltd. During the session we were taught how to take care of our skin, hair and body.
There was also a small inspirational video shown to us. They discussed about the various
products available for different types of skin to prevent it from pollution, dust etc. Overall the
programme was entertaining and beneficial to all of us. We look forward to participating in more
such programmes.
Workshop on Cost and Works Accounting
On 11 Sep, 2013 we were privileged to have Dr. Suhas Mahaj an, distinguished author of the
book 'Cost and Works and Accounting'. Our Principal, Dr. Anil Adsule extended a warm well
come to Dr. Mahajan. The topic for the workshop was 'Importance of cost accounting'. Dr.
Mahajan began his talk with a beautiful statement "to teach is to change the life forever". He
supported each line with a practical example of daily life. He connected the importance of cost
accounting to competitive world appealing to day today's life. His simplicity created an
atmosphere of demand for cost accounting in daily life. A good number of S.Y. and T.Y B.Com
students attended the talk and enjoyed the talk immensely.
Investment and Portfolio Management Workshop
On 16 Sep, 2013 more than 100 students attended a workshop on investment and portfolio
management. Prof. S. Kulkarni enlightened the students about various financial and investment
options. He explained the art of saving and investment. It was an interactive session wherein he
patiently answered all questions and cleared all doubts of the students. At the end he made sure
that the students understood the worth and meaning of increasing wealth by the means of
investing it vigilantly. Ms. Shireen Francis (S.Y.B.Com) AICUF Leadership Seminar On 1st
September 2013 an AICUF Awareness and Leadership programme was organized at JDV Hall
in Ramwadi for the members of AICUF. It was successfully conducted by Jesuit Scholastics
Maneesh S.J., Sharath S.J., Melwyn S.J. and Patrick S.J. They conducted the programme with

lots of games and activities. The sessions made us realise our unique identity and reflect on who
we really are. We also discussed and suggested different ways in which we could make a
difference as an AICUF group. As we took a step forward to work together we could feel the fire
of leadership had been enkindled in our hearts. The seminar was really encouraging, inspiring
and it helped us to know ourselves better. Thanks to Prof. Gilbi John for organizing the seminar.
AICUF Panel Discussion
On 6th September, 2013 AICUF organized a Panel Discussion on the topic, "Impact of the
Falling Rupee on Common People". The speaker for this session was Mr. Abhijit A.M. from
Lokayat, the N.G.O. working for social cause. He spoke about the Food Security Bill and also
explained the graphs which showed the country's rupee value in the past and explained how it
has fallen till date. He briefly explained the causes of the rupee fall and also how it is affecting
common man. He mentioned some of the ways in which we can contribute to saving the
environment and also save our economy. After the session our students expressed their views
and raised few questions. The program ended with a vote of thanks. We thank Lokayat and the
college AICUF team for organizing such a discussion and look forward to more in the future.
AICUF 25th National Council The 25th AICUF National Council was held from 21st August
to 25th August at AICUF House, Chennai. Two of our students, Mr. Franklin Fernandes and Mr.
Conrad Lestourgeon attended the Council. It began with the inauguration followed by an ice
breaking session which helped us know the names of the members of different states to help us
interact with them. During the council our state report was presented before the nationals and
also Mr. Franklin Fernandes gave away his post as the National Convener after completing his
tenure and Mr. Conrad Lestourgeon was elected as the National Council Member and Vice
President of Pune unit. Since it was the 25th National Council we also presented 25 years
milestones of our state. Various meetings were held where we discussed various issues and also
found solutions to them. The National Council Members also discussed various activities which
could be held in their state for the present year. We also had sessions which helped us know the
history of AICUF and the constitution. The council ended with a valedictory mass and
felicitation of all the members. We thank the college for their support and motivation. Mr.

Leadership and Net-working Initiative
On 21 Sep, 2013 we had a leadership program by Ms. Marina D' Costa, an Ex AICUF member
and now an I.C.M.I.C.A. volunteer. All the student body leaders, treasurers, secretaries, class
representatives and assistant class representatives were invited for this guest lecture on
leadership. The theme of the talk was to be organic, the speaker spoke about various aspects of
life and also shared her personal experience she made us aware that in today's world we should
have good networking i.e. basically make good contacts and interact with people. She also spoke
about her recent venture i.e. DIALOGUE a project to make people aware that it is very
important to make right decisions, think before acting or reacting and also speaking politely. She
also gave us an example of a friend making us aware that in life to be a leader it is very
necessary to lead by example. It was a very helpful talk that gave us a lot of insight on
leadership.

AICUF Trekking to Malavali (innovative way to Promote Environmental Awareness ) On
29 September, 2013 AICUF organized a trek to Malavali, Lonavla in which 130 students of our
college participated. On 29th morning, we gathered at Pune Railway Station where snacks were
distributed to us prepared by Prof. Gilbi John after which we began our journey by the local train
to Lonavala. The students were put into groups so that no injuries took place and we get to know
each other too. After enjoying the scenic view during the journey we began walking towards the
hill while the students enjoyed the waterfalls along the route. Thanks to Prof. Franklin Salvi
without whom we would not have reached our destination. The rain, fog and the beautiful
scenery added to the excitement of the trek. While climbing we took breaks and students were
eagerly waiting to reach the Lohagad Fort where we conducted a Cleanliness Drive on the fort
which was polluted with plastic and other garbage by the other picnickers following which the
students had a fellowship lunch. After a group photo, we began our journey down the hill and
finally reached back to Malavali Station without anything going the wrong way. Thanks to Prof.
Gilbi John and Prof. Franklin Salvi planning such an innovative means of conducting a PICNIC

Sports News
University - Inter Collegiate Football Tournament Our College participated in the Inter-
Collegiate Football Tournament organized by University of Pune and hosted by Poona College
of Arts, Science & Commerce. The tournament started on 30th August 2013.
1. We faced S.P College on 2nd August 2013 in the first round and won the match in a Tie
Breaker. We took lead in the first half through Ashley Nathan via Penalty. S.P. College brought
the equalizer in the second half and the match went into Tie Breaker. The final score was 2-1 in
the sudden death.
2. Our second match was against Abeda Inamdar College on 3rd August 2013. Initially we were
down by 2 goals, then Sameer Chandekar and Harshal Sathe scored to equalize. The match once
again went into tie breaker and ended in 5-4 in our favour. The scorers were Salman Shaikh,
Sameer Chandekar, Nazareth Bonny, Cleofus Anthony and Sathe Harshal.
3. The Third round was a Quarter Final match and we were to face Modern College on 5th
August 2013. This was the third time in the recent past that we entered the quarter finals. Our
opponent took lead in the first half. We were down but not out. We came back in the dying
minutes of the game and Sameer Chandekar scored one to equalize. Once again we had to face a
tie-breaker. This time we were defeated to a score of 4-3. The scorers were Sameer Chandekar,
Shaikh Salman, Nazareth Bonny and Rakesh.
University - Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament Our College participated in the Inter-
Collegiate Cricket Tournament organized by University of Pune at Wadia College Grounds. We
played our first match on 4th September 2013 against PVG College. After winning the toss we
elected to field. Fine bowling performances from Uvez Shiakh, Tilekar Abhishek and Venkat
Katari restricted the opponents to a score of 107 all out in 18 overs. Our batting started with
brisk scoring from Akash Totekar who hit 3 boundaries in the 2nd over. Mr. Harshit Negandghi
was the top scorer with 40 runs. With just 2 wickets lost, we won the match in just 10 overs.

Venkat Katari displayed an all round performance and was very instrumental in the victory. The
second match was played against S.P. College on 5th September 2013. The match was disrupted
several times by rain and when the play resumed we were defeated by the strong S.P. College
team.
St. Vincent Rolling Trophy - Season Two
The second season of St. Vincent Rolling Trophy was organized on 25-26 Sep, 2013 at St.
Vincent School Ground. Eight Catholic Junior Colleges participated in this tournament. Fr.
Bhausaheb Sansare, S.J., Chairman & Provincial inaugurated the tournament. The Principal,
Staff and many students witnessed the two day event. The matches were very competitive.
Loyola High School & Junior College won the Championship for the second time in succession.
Don Bosco Jr. College was the first runner-up. Our team secured the third place. Fr. Mario
Fernandes. S.J. the principal of Loyola Jr. College, Mr. Parag Khandagale, Principal, St. Joseph
Tech. Institute, Dr. Anil Adsule and Prof. Joseph Panackal gave away the Trophies. The entire
event was organized under the guidance of our Manager and sports coordinator, Fr. James
Selvaraj, S.J. Mr. Ignatius Peter planned and executed the details to make it a grand success. All
our staff and volunteer students joined hands together to conduct the tournament in a smooth
manner.
Staff Development Programme
Staff development programme was organized on 14-15 June, 2013. On 14th evening Dr.
Shridhar Kadvekar with his vast experience in teaching and administration addressed the staff on
the importance innovative teaching and threw light on the choice-based credit system for
M.Com. On 15th morning the staff gathered at Mount Carmel Junior college, Pune. Our senior
and junior college staff were present for the programme. The programme gave an opportunity to
develop and strengthen the bond of unity among the staff. One could see great enthusiasm and
zeal among the staff taking part in all the indoor and outdoor games. The intense football match
was won by Mr. Rudy and team. Staff meeting and planning for the academic year was also
undertaken as part of the prgoramme. We are grateful to Sr. Supreeta, Sister in charge of the
Junior College, for the hospitality.
JHEASA Meeting
at Mangalore Jesuit Higher Education Association for South Asia (JHEASA) secretary, and
Principal of St. Aloysius College, Fr. Swebert D'Silva SJ convened a meeting on 18th Sep at St.
Aloysius College, Mangalore. The meeting focused on the best practices of higher education in
all our colleges in South Asia region and the various challenges and concerns were also taken up
for discussion. Fr. Swebert requested that all the colleges should send their principals for the
meeting scheduled from 7-10 Nov, 2013 at Loyola College, Trivandrum. Fr. James Selvaraj
represented St. Vincent College for the meeting in Mangalore.
Workshop on "Training Leadership through Collaboration"
A two day workshop was organized on the 21st & 22nd September, 2013, at Vinayalaya,
Andheri (East), Mumbai. The workshop was a step initiated towards understanding the

importance and need for "Lay Collaboration", to develop and encourage the spirit of Jesuit
Leadership, to design the strategies, modules, programmes and workshops to enable the
successful implementation of the Jesuit Lay Collaboration to achieve the goals of a Shared
Vision and common objectives of social justice and social upliftment through equal contribution,
shared joint responsibility and efforts. The workshop was organized by the joint efforts of 4
Jesuit Provinces (Pune, Mumbai, Goa & Gujarat), 24 participants attended the workshop
comprising of 17 Religious & 7 Laity. Prof. Franklin Salvi from St. Vincent College of
Commerce represented Pune Province. Rev. Fr. Buahusaheb Sansare SJ, the Provincial of Pune
Jesuit Province and the Chairman of the college, was also present for the workshop.
National Level Champions - A Dream Comes True
Our students have won the 'Best College Trophy' in the Junior and Senior College Category at
the National Level Inter-Collegiate Competition 'SITARE 2013'. It is indeed an honour to Pune
City and Pune University as the competition had many entries across the nation. 'Sitare - Stars of
Night', a national level inter-collegiate competition for night college students across the country
was organized by St. Xavier's College (Commerce Section) Mumbai on Teacher's Day 5 Sep,
2013. The competition included events such as power point presentation (PPT), elocution, quiz,
folk dance, solo singing, carom (Doubles) and chess. In this competition, more than 200 students
studying in 21 Degree Night Colleges and 32 Junior Colleges from various parts of the country
participated. The topic for power point presentation was, 'Impact of television on youngsters'.
The students also displayed great enthusiasm during elocution. They had the option to choose
between 'Social Networking' and 'Gender Discrimination'. 37 Colleges participated in the singing
competition and St. Vincent College bagged the Second Prize in both Jr. and Sr. Category. In
carom contest, students from 16 colleges participated. It was the dance competition that stole the
whole show.
Enthralling dances like Lavani, Bhangra, Bharatnatayam and Jogvaa were performed by the
students. More than 38 Colleges participated in the competition.
The programme was co-ordinated by Prof. Jotiram Gaikwad. Principal of St. Xavier's College,
Dr. (Fr.) Frazer Mascarenhas SJ and Vice-Principal Fr. Errol Fernandes SJ gave away the
trophies. A team of 11 students from our College participated in various competitions and won
the 'Best College Trophy'. Fr. James Selvaraj and Mr. VoFsh Mate accompanied our students. St.
Vincent College secured Two 1" Prizes, Three r Prizes and a Third Prize to secure the Best

Vidyarthini Manch Canteen Week – A small humble approach towards a Noble Cause
Mother Teresa Vidyarthini Manch organized the Canteen week from 1-12 October to help the
poor and needy. All the students and staff participated wholeheartedly in the event. Each day one
class set up the stalls of delicious and mouth watering dishes like biryani, pastries, idlies,
sandwiches, cold drink etc. The collection from the proceeds was given to the needy as a
token of love from St. Vincent family.
A.D. Shroff Elocution Competition
49th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition (sponsored by the Forum of Free Enterprises,
Mumbai) was organized for the Senior College students on 19 Nov, 2013. The judges for the
competition were Dr. Shashwati Soumya, Prof. ,Rahul Jain and Mr. Francis D' Souza. Ms.
Mariam Sayyed was the master of the ceremony. The topics for the competition were 'White
Collar Crimes and Economic Safety of Women', 'Importance of Water Conservation', 'Role of
Civil Society in Ensuring Safety of Women and Good Governance Is the Need of the Hour'. The
participants with their enthusiasm left the judges and audience amazed.
Cookery Competition Mother Teresa Vidyarthini Manch had organized cookery competition on
21 Nov, 2013 for the Junior and Senior College students. The judges for the event were Bro.
Francis Lobo, Bro. Jesus Vivian and Ms. Ruby Phumale. All the students participated with great
enthusiasm. On 4 Dec, 2013 the cookery competition was held for the P.G. Students. The
competition was held for two categories of dishes, namely, Main Course and Dessert. Attractive
cash prizes were announced for the winners. The participants made delicious dishes and
displayed variety. The judges for the event were Mrs. Monica Gilbi and Mrs. Madhuri Maduram.
The dishes were judged on the basis of nutrients, taste and presentation. Congratulations to all
the participants and thanks to Ms. Neha Shendge, Ms. Jennifer Paul, Ms. Meenakshi Mondal,
Ms. Antonetta Anthony, Ms. Prachi Waghmare Mrs. Shaheen Sayed and the organizing team.

Social Gathering
We celebrated the annual social gathering on Saturday 21 Dec, 2013. The programme started
with some melodious carol singing by our college choir. Santa Clause also made a special
appearance and joined the carol singing and distributed sweets. The students of the Senior
College & M.Com put up a wonderful shadow skit of the Nativity. The skit was a great mixture
of creativity, good performances and crisp narration which not only enthralled everyone but also
spread the message of Christmas in a very unique way. It turned out to be a memorable skit for
everyone. After the skit, the winners of various Inter-College competitions were awarded with
certificates and cash prizes. The junior college put up a solo dance performance which won the
applause of everyone present for the evening.

The students of M.Com too put up a wonderful dance coupled with foot tapping music. The
Students' Council conducted party games and gave away three special spot prizes. The
programme concluded with a delicious meal to mark the celebration of Christmas.

Corporation (IDFC) organized 'In Our Hands 2013', an inter-collegiate State Level Debate

The Department of the Commerce & Research Centre, University of Pune had organized an
inter-collegiate competition from 9-11 Oct, 2013. About 30 Colleges participated in this
competition and there were six events, namely, X-word, Creatrix, Trouble Hunt, Headship
Combat, Selling an idea for profit making and Entrepreneurship. The unique feature of these
competitions was that all the topics were impromptu. This led to a lot of initiative, creativity and
enthusiasm among the participants leaving them with ample of practical knowledge. The topics
for each event were very relevant and related to Commerce Discipline and covered all our
subjects like Accounts, Marketing, Business Entrepreneurship, Economics etc. Our students won

Our students Harshal Sathe and Bonny Nazareth participated in the RED FM inter-college
competition and won the Unique Performance award and cash prize of rupees two thousand. The
event was held on 12 Oct, 2013 at Inorbit Mall, Wadgaon Sheri, Pune and fifteen colleges from
the city participated.
LITT - FEST
by Abeda Inamdar College A team of six students participated in the Litt-Fest inter-college event
organized by Abeda Inamdar College on 12-13 Dec, 2013. They brought joy to the college by

Anti-Dowry State Level Competitions
Anti-Dowry Movement, Mumbai conducted a State Level Inter-College Short Story Writing
Competition on the topic 'Atrocities on Women due to various evils such as Dowry in the male
dominated society'. Ms. Akansha Jain participated in the event on 24 Dec, 2013 and won 7h
Prize and a Merit Certificate. A State Level Inter-collegiate Elocution Competition was held on
28 Dec, 2013 at Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce. Ms. Akansha Jain from our
College participated in the event and won 5th Prize. About 50 colleges participated in the
competition. Akansha spoke on 'Effects of Dowry Custom on Women's life'. Ms. Merlyn Baptist
Analysis of PMC Budget
On 11 Oct, 2013 AICUF organized a guest lecture on the Analysis of the PMC Budget. The
resource person for the evening was Mr. Abhijeet A. M. a member of Lokayat. More than 80
students from the Senior College attended this lecture. He highlighted various aspects like the
way a budget is made, sources of revenue to the P.M.C, the decrease in the PMC budget and the
problems faced by the common man due to the inappropriate use of funds available. The
students enjoyed the interactive session and this session was an eye opener for all the students.
State Level Seminar on Human Trafficking (World Human Rights day)
is celebrated on 10 Dec, 2013 across the globe. Our college celebrated world human rights day
by hosting a State Level Seminar on 'Human Trafficking and Bonded Labour' on 8th December,
2013. All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Pune unit and Mumbai Unit at St.
Xavier's College, joined hands together to create awareness on the evil of human trafficking and
bonded labour. Staff and Students from well-known colleges in Pune such as Symbiosis SCMS,
Christ College, Wadia College, S.P. College and St. Xavier's College, Mumbai participated in
the seminar. There were about 120 participants. Chairman of Poona Jesuit Schools' Society, Fr.
Bhausaheb Sansare, inaugurated the seminar and delivered the key note address emphasizing
that there is goodness in all of us and all our religions teach to us love everyone. Principal, Dr.
Anil Adsule and Fr. James Selvaraj were also present for the seminar. Five resource persons
from the NGO, Oasis from Mumbai who are engaged in the rehabilitation of trafficked victims,
gave input on the nature, extent and the gravity of human trafficking. There were short videos,
plays, group discussions, which boosted up the youth of Pune and Mumbai. There was a sharing
of real life experience by Ms. Usha who was the victim of this human trafficking. The interactive
question answer session was very fruitful as many issues concerning human trafficking were
clarified. The seminar was well planned by Prof. Gilbi John, the AICUF Animator of Pune

THARSEO III
Tharseo III, the annual inter-collegiate competition was hosted on 17-18 Dec, 2013. Chief Guest,
Dr. Sanjay S. Kaptan, Head, Faculty of Commerce, University of Pune and Guest of Honour,
Rev. Fr. Sony Chundattu, Principal of Christ College inaugurated Tharseo III in the presence
about 150 participants representing 53 colleges from Pune and Mumbai. Dr. Anil Adsule while
addressing the participants exhorted them to look at the competition in healthy manner as a
learning experience and exchange of new ideas. Students from 30 senior colleges contested in
Carom and 20 Colleges participated in Power Point Presentation on the topic 'Declining Sex
Ratio is a serious concern for India'. 17 colleges debated on the topic 'Whether autonomous
colleges will improve the quality of education'. In the Junior College section 15 colleges
participated in Elocution on the topic 'Action Plan for the Safety of Women' and 20 colleges
participated in chess competition. On the concluding day the Event Sponsor, Loyola Institute of
Business Administration's Deputy Director, Fr. Emmanuel Arockiam SJ, and Dr. M.D.
Lawrence, Principal of MMCC gave away the Trophies and Cash Prizes. It wasn't easy for any
single college to win all the events as the competition was qualitatively high. Sinhgad Jr. College
of Arts, Science and Commerce Ambegaon bagged the Junior College Championship Trophy,
while Garware College of Commerce lifted the Senior College Championship Trophy. The
efforts of the Junior College won many events for Ness Wadia College making them the overall
champions of Tharseo III. In PPT in the senior college category Symbiosis College of Arts and
Commerce stood first followed by Arihant College of Education. In Debate competition
Garware College of Commerce secured the first position while B.J. Medical College and
Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies stood second and third respectively. Chess was
dominated by MMCC while DES Law College and VIT secured the second and third positions.
In Carrom Allana Institute of Management took the first prize followed by Dr. Ambedkar
College Yerwada and NBN Sinhgad School of Computer studies. In the junior college group
Fergusson College won the Elocution competition, followed by Army Public school and Ness
Wadia. In the Collage Making event Symbiosis Jr. College of Arts and Commerce emerged
winner while Fergusson College and Mt Carmel Jr. College secured second and third positions.
In Carrom Sinhgad College of Arts Science and Commerce stood first, followed by St. Vincent
Jr. College and Don Bosco Jr. College. In Chess Sinhgad College of Arts Science emerged
winner and Ness Wadia Jr. College and St. Vincent Jr. College secured the second and third
positions. All in all 53 Colleges participated and 30 Colleges won various events which made
THARSEO III a memorable event. Thanks to Prof. Gilbi John, the Students Council, the
volunteers and all the staff for the wonderful event. Thanks also to the masters of ceremony, Ms.
Merlyn Baptist and Mr. Naveen Kerketta for the smooth conduct of Tharseo III.
Annual Sports Week
The Annual sports week of our college was organized from 12 - 15 Dec, 2013. The sports week
started with box cricket and table tennis for the Jr & Sr. Sections. Table tennis, box-cricket,
volley ball and throw ball events were held at the campus of St. Joseph Technical Institute. All
other events such as basket ball, football, badminton, kho-kho, carrom, chess, long jump, shot-
put were held at the college campus. On 15 December all the athletic events were organized.

championship trophy for the Senior Section was won by M.Com and the Junior Section by Std
XII. Thanks to Fr. James Selvaraj, the sports coordinator, Mr. Ignatius Peter and all our staff and

Basket Ball Match
On 13 Dec, 2013 the Junior College girls participated in the Carmel Basket Ball Rolling Trophy
organized by Mount Carmel Jr. College. In the first half of the game our students gave a good
fight to S.M. Choksey Jr. College but eventually lost the match by six baskets. It was an
enriching experience. Thanks to Mount Carmel Junior College for inviting us to participate in
the tournament.

TRIPLE JUBILEE CELEBRATION
This year is a memorable year for all the Jesuits especially the Jesuits who work in Pune
Province. This year the Pune Jesuits celebrate the Triple Jubilee - 200th year of restoration of
Society of Jesus, 160 years of German Jesuit presence in Western India and 20 Years of Pune
Jesuit Province. The celebration commenced on the Feast of St. Francis Xavier. Our College
conducted the Novena to St. Francis Xavier on 2 Dec, 2013. We organized the liturgy and put up
a cultural program to mark the jubilee celebrations. Fr. James Selvaraj SJ, the Manager of our
college, current students and ex-students who are priests celebrated the holy mass. Thanks to our
ex-students, Fr. Dominic Adams and Fr. Ramesh Tribhuvan SJ celebrating the mass. The
Eucharistic celebration was followed by cultural fiesta .The hosts for this program were Ms.
Merlyn Baptist and Ms. Clare Fernandes. The cultural program started with a prayer dance by
the M.Com students. Fr. James then delivered a power point presentation about St. Vincent
College. The audience were greatly entertained by the Tamil dance and the Gujarati dance that
was put up by the students. Mr. Jinto Thomas and Mr. Ningreiso Malue mesmerized the
audience with their songs. Thanks to Mr. Ningreiso (Ko-Ko), Mr. Harshal Sathe and Mr.
Sylvester Francis for staging meaningful skits which won the applause of one and all.
Scholarship and Help by Alumni (Ex-Students)
Thanks to Mr. Praphulla Gaikwad for sponsoring educational scholarship to FIVE deserving
students. God Bless You ! Our students are grateful to Mr. Praphulla Gaikwad for helping them
to get the Minority Scholarships from the Govt through the online applications. Many students
have received the scholarships with the timely help of Mr. Praphulla Gaikwad.
International Film Festival
The eighth edition of the Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival on environment,
energy, air and water in association with Lokayat, Maharashatra Forest Department, Pugmarks
and Go Wild was held from 17 - 25 Jan, 2014. S.Y.B.Com students attended this programme as
part of their EVS Project. The opening ceremony on 19 Jan, 2014 was held at Balgandhary Rang
Mandir while the closing ceremony took place in our college on 25 January, 2014. For the rest of
the days the venue was the National Film Archive of India. Mr. Atul Kirloskar, the event

convener inaugurated the film festival by symbolic watering of a banyan tree sapling. The events
that took place focused on 'Preserve, Protect and Save the Earth's Environment' which
showcased various movies on the harmful effects of plastic, pollution, deforestation, importance
of saving electricity, planting trees in our neighbourhood etc. This was done to promote the idea
'Small Effort, Big Difference'. The students who watched these movies gained a lot of
knowledge and realised the urgent need to start saving our planet earth. Thanks to Prof. Gilbi
John for taking the initiative to organize the film festival at our college.
Visit to Isha Prem Niketan
On Tuesday, 28 Jan, 2014 M.T.V.M. in co-ordination with AICUF organized a visit to Isha
Prem Niketan, an orphanage for the poor, mentally retarded senior citizens and needy children.
About 40 students from Std. XI to M.Com were part of this visit and were accompanied by some
of our staff. Our students interacted with the inmates and made them happy by singing songs and
giving some necessary articles, sweets, toys, chocolates, etc. It was indeed a wonderful
experience spending time with the small kids and elderly people who longed for love and
enjoyed our company. Thanks to Vincent's Family for giving us this special experience. Thanks
to Mrs. Shaheen Sayed, MTVM Co-ordinator, Prof. Gilbi John, AICUF Animator, Fr. James
Selvaraj, AICUF Advisor and all the office bearers of AICUF and MTVM for organizing this
visit.
Farewell to Std. XII
It is always hard to bid farewell to the outgoing batch but saying good-bye does not mean that
the journey stops right here. Farewell implies the beginning of new opportunities being opened
to them. On 13 Feb, 2014 the farewell party for Std. XII was orgainzed by the students of Std.
XI. The function started with prayer followed by cultural programme and Quizer. A sizzling
dance was performed by Steffi Chinappa, Avinash Kanar and the group which added spice to the
dance floor. Thanks to Mr. Francis D' Souza, Mr. Ignatius Peter, the staff and students for
making the function meaningful. It will be cherished by the out-going batch. The enthusiastic
evening ended with laughter, dance and a lovely dinner
Workshop at Abeda Inamdar College
Abeda Inamder Senior College had organized a One-Day-Workshop, 'Self Employment
Generating Activity for College Girls' under Quality Improvement Programme Cluster 1(A) on
Saturday, 15th Feb, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The Training was of Making Paper Bags,
Cardboard Files, Envelopes, Candle and Decorative Items. The Training Programme was
attended by Vidyarthini Manch President, Ms. Neha Shendge from T.Y.B.Com. The Art and
Craft material was provided by the College. Certificate of University of Pune Quality
Improvement Programme Cluster 1(A) was given to Ms. Neha Shendge.
M.Com Picnic – A Cause through fun
The Student Council of M.Com organized a picnic for M.Com I & II on 15 Feb, 2014 to Kashid
Beach. There were a total of 47 students who were accompanied by five staff members. During
the journey there was plenty of entertainment by way of music, dance and various games played

by the students as well as active participation of teachers. A few showers of rain did add to the
fun at the beach and it enriched the view of the beach and nature. On reaching Kashid beach the
students spent One and Half Hour cleaning the beach of all waste and garbage following which
Lunch was served at the beach itself and it was an energizing meal. After lunch students enjoyed
the waves again and many of them captured these wonderful memories in their cameras. In the
evening we started our journey back to Pune. Thanks to all the teachers who accompanied us. A
special thanks to M.Com co-ordinator, Fr. James Selvaraj, without whose support the picnic
would have not have been possible.
T.Y.B.Com Farewell
4 March, 2014 was an auspicious day as we bade farewell to T.Y. B.Com students. It was well
organized by F.Y. S.Y. Students. Mr. Owais Shaikh was the overall co-ordinator for the
programme while Mr. Prashant Mhaske and Ms. Prajakta Tribhvan, conducted the programme
smoothly. It was a moment of sadness as well as of joy; sad because they were leaving us and
joyful because they were stepping into a new future. The programme started with a prayer song.
Our Principal, Dr. Anil Adsule wished the students a bright future. To make the farewell
function a little more enthusiastic, cultural programme as well as games were conducted for
T.Y.B.Com students. There was also time for sharing where all the professors shared their past
and present experiences with the students. It was very inspiring and motivating. T.Y. B.Com
students also shared their experiences about how they felt being at St. Vincent College of
Commerce. All T.Y. students were given mementos of the college. After that a farewell song
was presented by F.Y and S.Y students. The programme ended with a prayer led by Fr. James
Selvaraj. A delicious dinner was served in honour of the out-going batch. All of us shared the
fellowship dinner together as one family of Vincentians.
Women's Day Celebration
On 8 March, 2014 Mother Teresa Vidyarthini Manch (MTVM) celebrated Women's Day in our
college. They arranged a guest lecture for all the girl students. The talk was given by Mrs. Priti
Sanghvi of Infinitheism, which works for the needy and helpless in the society irrespective of
their caste, creed, religion and race. She gave an hour talk which gave a lifetime lesson, teaching
and inspiration to our girls. Many girl students were present for the session. Her inspiring words
made us believe how women can empower the world. Through her stories and examples she
taught us some values which are applicable not just to the girls but to the whole human race.
Thanks to Mrs. Shaheen Sayed, MTVM coordinator and Ms. Neha Shendge, MTVM President,
for inviting such a vibrant and enthusiastic personality to celebrate Women's Day.
M.Com Farewell
M.Com Part I students organized a farewell party on 10 May, 2014 with a beautiful message
'NEVER SAY GOODBYE'. The evening started with great excitement as all the M.Com
students dressed up to their glamorous best and arrived for the farewell party. Mr. Kamlesh
Godse and Ms. Preeti Ginelu were the Masters of Ceremony for the programme. They welcomed
the outgoing students of M.Com Part II. Some spectacular cultural programmes were put up by
the Part I students. They presented an entertaining group dance, solo dance and solo song

performances. Some exciting games were also arranged for the students. The students had fun as
they enjoyed every moment with their best buddies. The Principal, Vice Principal and the
Manager in their speech wished good luck to the students of M.Com II for their future. Some
M.Com Part II students too shared their experience in Vincent family. They thanked the teachers
for their endearing efforts in shaping up their destiny and for being there when it mattered.
Thereafter, Part I students presented mementoes to all the M.Com students as a token of love.
The party ended with a delicious meal. When the party ended, everyone was reluctant to leave.
After all, for many students, this would be their last official function in the college before the
term ends. Thanks to Mr. Allwyn, Ms. Aishwarya, Mr. Rahul and all the volunteers who made
the farewell party a memorable one.
PLACEMENT CELL REPORT
Workshop on Resume Writing
On 8 March, 2014 Prof. Gilbi John, the Placement Cell Co-ordinator organized a workshop on
'Resume Writing' for S.Y.B.Com students. The resource person for the day was Mr. Bishal
Sharma, an ex-student of our college. He has been working in various well known government
organizations and has conducted many interviews for the prestigious position holders. He
explained to the students how to prepare an effective resume, which can draw magnetic attention
of the interviewers. He encouraged the students to have a strong and clear career objective. The
session was very interactive and the students actively participated.
INTER-COLLEGIATE COMPETITIONS
At Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies
organised a National Level Competition `Sympuise 2014' from 15 - 19 Jan, 2014. Many colleges
from all over the country participated in this competition. The event was categorised in four
major competition heads namely Symulate, Ananya, Simunc and Sprint. Our college participated
in various events like cricket and group dance in the Ananya category; and Best entrepreneur,
manager and financer competitions in the Symulate category. Ms. Merlyn Baptist and Mr.
Martin Bhingare stood 4th in the Best Financer Competition (after a series of 8 rounds spread
over 3 days). We were the only college from Pune to finish among the top four in the Finance
Competition. Thanks to all our professors and our co-ordinator Prof. Gilbi John for their constant
support and encouragement.
NIEM - Event Manager of the Year
The National Institute of Event Management (NIEM) held its 'Annual Event Manager Award'
ceremony on Friday 31 Jan, 2014 at the Nehru Memorial Hall, Camp. The programme began
with the felicitation of the Principals of each college followed by a cultural dance programme.
Around 18 colleges competed with each other for the prestigious super event manager of the
year award. Each college had two representatives who were called on the stage and asked a
question based on business trends or social issues in India. The points were calculated on the
basis of the judges' score and voting from the audience. Ms. Akansha Jain and Mr. Martin
Bhingare walked away with the Super Event Manager of the year award. After an eventful year

at various inter-college competitions, it was another feather in the cap for our college. Thanks to
our principal Dr. Anil Adsule, Vice principal, Prof. Joseph Panackal, Fr. James Selvaraj, Prof.
Gilbi John, Mr. Ignatius Peter and all our professors and students present at the venue for their
kind support and encouragement.
BOCA Football
IFB Industries Ltd in association with BOCA Juniors Football Club of Argentina continued their
search for talented footballers from schools and colleges in Pune. The matches were played at
Agashe College football ground on 31 Jan, 2014. About 24 colleges from Pune participated in
the tournament for the trophy. Our college students played against the following: 1st Match
against Poona Education Society's College 2nd Match against Bishops College Quarter Final
against Agashe College Semi Final against Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce Final against
Spicer College Spicer College beat St Vincent College of Commerce in the final match. It was
hard fought match which was deadlocked at the end of normal time. Spicer College are now
Pune Champions of IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs and we are placed in the second
position.
Allana Football Trophy
Our senior college football team brought laurels to the college by winning the Allana Football
Trophy organised by Allana Institute of Management in February 2014. This is the third time
that our college has won the championship trophy during the academic year. Out team defeated
D.Y. Patil , College, Abeda Inamdar and Azam Sport Club etc. To clinch the title. Both Ashley
Nathan and Harsh Tanani played well against all the teams and won the trophy. Congratulations
to the football team and the coach, Mr. Ignatius Peter.

M.E.S. Garware College of Commerce hosted an inter-college competition on 4th & 5th Feb,

AICUF NEWS
AICUF Day St. Xavier's College, Mumbai
AICUF Day was held at St Xavier's College, Mumbai, on 19th and 20th Jan, 2014. The theme
for the day was "Displacement of Tribals". The sessions were conducted by Mr. Bipin Jojo and
Fr. Anthony Dias SJ. During the seminar we were told about the difficulties faced by tribals.
They comprise a substantial indigenous minority of the population of India and are the ones who
are troubled and tortured the most. Adivasi societies are particularly extensive in Andhra
Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha,
Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, some north-eastern states and the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands. Short video clips, group discussions, and ways and means to curb exploitation of both
adivasis and snake charmers were discussed.
Seminar on Leadership for Change
An inspirational talk was given by Fr. Brian Pereira SJ on "Transformation of an Individual"
on 18 Feb, 2014. Fr. James Selvaraj SJ, the Manager of our college introduced Fr. Brian Pereira
S.J.
A large number of F.Y., S.Y and Junior college students participated actively in the session. Fr.
Brian elaborated on the various Do's and Don'ts of being a "good AICUFer". He also stressed
on the importance of having basic enthusiasm to do something different and unique for society
and instilling in the minds of people awareness of the different kinds of injustice to both men
and women.
He highlighted how as an AICUFer one needs to be vibrant. He touched upon the topic through a
game and some video clips. One hour session passed just like a minute and it was indeed a very

AICUF 90th Anniversary
90th anniversary of the AICUF was held at the national level at AICUF House, Chennai,
on 15th & 16th Feb, 2014. Three AICUFers from our college, Mr. Ningreiso Malve (M.Com-I),
Mr. Imraan Premji (M.Com-I) and Bro. Naveen Kerketta (F.Y.B.Com) actively participated in
the programme. The theme of the event was "Marching with the Marginalised". The ceremony
was inaugurated with a brief history of the 90 years journey of the AICUF. Then followed some
ice-breaking sessions for us to get to know other AICUFers from various states. Various
competitions such as street plays, cultural dances, collages, essay and poem-writing were held.
In these competitions we tried to present the work done by AICUFers. We also got an
opportunity to listen to the experiences of our senior AICUFers.

Prof. James Selvaraj SJ has completed Refresher Course in Disaster Management (Inter-
Disciplinary) from 10 - 30 March, 2014 at the UGC Academic Staff College, Gauhati
University, Guwahati, Assam.
Seminar on Interview Skills
On 24 Jan, 2014 two most distinguished guests gave the talk on 'Interview Skills'. They were
none other than H.R., Mr. Swapnic Ramesh Deolay, working in Opulent Auto Care Pvt. Ltd as a
Manager and H.R., Ms. Shamin Peter Susainaden working in BML Consultancy Service Pvt Ltd
Company. Both the H.R. managers shared their views and experiences with the students. It was a
mind-sharpening experience for the students. They focused on how one needs to be prepared for
an interview in the competitive world. They stressed on personal discipline which is the
hallmark of the interview skills. They projected how to develop a positive attitude in our life.
Students profited a lot from the session. It was a very lively and fruitful session for one and all.
Seminar Day On 14 Feb, 2014 a series of guest lectures were organized for the F.Y.B.Com and
S.Y.B.Com students on 'Telecommunication Problems and Issues'. The resource person for the
evening was Mr. Dinesh Bhandare. Placement Cell co-ordinator, Prof. Gilbi John extended a
warm welcome to Mr. Dinesh Bhandare on behalf of the college. He explained to the students
the history of telecommunication, how it has been developed and has covered the entire world

with its presence. He told the values of data and how it is helping us in our life. At the same time
he asked us to be aware of the excessive use and the side effects of mobile radiation. It was an
eye opening session for the students. Mr. Dinesh Bhandare and his team highlighted the rights
and duties of consumers and gave valuable information on Consumer Redressal Forum. He
urged us to be informed consumers and become aware of the selling practices of retailers. The
session was very fruitful.
After the break we had inputs on various topics such as 'Financial Literacy', 'Avenue
Investment' and Stock Market Operation'. A good number of students took part in the
session. The resource person, Mr. Stephen Fernandez, CFA, Trainer, and BSE Institute in
Mumbai, was a dynamic person and he focused on various aspects of economics and the need to
save money. He gave examples of keeping a high goal for the saving and investment. He
explained the process and the goal of saving money and where we can invest and get higher
returns. The students eagerly listened and interacted with him from time to time. It was an eye
opening session for the students.
Talk on Finding God in All Things
On 28 Feb, 2014 we were very privileged to have a very distinguished and well known
personality, Fr. Jerry Rosario S.J. from Madurai Jesuit Province in our midst. Fr. Jerry is a
dynamic person and he is a visiting professor in many colleges across the world. He started his
talk with a simple question, "Do you believe in God?" He talked about three different words,
'Inspiration, Integration and Imagination'. He connected these three words with the life of former
President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who is the ex-student of St. Joseph College, Trichi. Students
were fully drawn by the way of his presentation. Fr. Jerry integrated Dr. Kalam's scientific life in
a simple way. He made the session very much alive and interesting.
Annual Day Celebration
Our College celebrated its Annual Day (Prize Distribution) on 1St Feb, 2014. The chief guest for
the evening was Mr. Allen C.A. Pereira, the former Chairman and Managing Director of Bank of
Maharashtra and the former director of NIBM. The guest of honour was Mr Rahul
Chandawarkar, the resident editor of Sakal Times. The program began with the felicitation and
warm welcome of chief guest, guest of honour, special guests and all the invitees. It was
followed by the prize distribution where the students' hard-work and dedication was appreciated
with certificates and trophies. The theme for our Annual Day was "Youth the future of India".
Our students with varied cultural programme relating to the theme filled the heart of the parents,
teachers and students with joy and happiness. A special thanks to the teaching and non-teaching
staff, co-ordinators and students for their support in making the day a memorable one.
Feedback received from the various stakeholders stated that they were satisfied with the
approach of the college, the staff in providing value based education, some employers and
external experts suggested a change in the current syllabus to match the industry needs
(this authority vested with the university) , however seminars and programmes were
conducted to prepare the students for the needs of the industry as per the suggestions by
the employers and external experts.
