Music Automoatic Drawing - Background Musical Automatic drawing was developed by the surrealists, as a means of expressing the subconscious. In automatic drawing, the hand is allowed to move “randomly” across the paper whilse prompted by music. 1. Draw and respond to the sound of fast and slow music from the “Carnival of the Animals Symphony” using oil pastle. Use large arm motions that cross over the body. Notice how your movements change listening to different music tracks. 2.Paint over the oil pastel scribbles with water colors, paint, and ink. Explore the way different paint resists or does not resist the oil pastel. Collage Tear background artwork into strips and glue onto your artwork page. You can swap strips with your peers to place a variety of colour, tones and textures for your background. You can also use other scrap and printed papers such as newspaper, magazines, old maps etc. Glue each strip like the examples provided. Eyes & Nose 1. Using analogus colours create a blending trial with oil pastle in your visual diary. 2. Using the eye and nose templates provided (or draw your own!) follow the tutorials to complete your eyes and nose. 3. Varnish with MOD PODGE and leave to dry. 4. Glue onto background. Finishing with Fur Texture 1. Using ink and a fan brush, create a page of trials in your visual diary that reflect fur textures of your chosen animal. Keep your brush strokes large and organic/messy. 2. Apply black ink to drawing. You may also use acyrlic paint to achieve grey and white fur textures.
