Hints of fresh first-season strawberries. Smooth drinking, light strawberry notes, peach and melon, good acidity, grapefruit - citrusy cleansing finish. Among the green vineyards and woods, Roccafiore Winery is a journey into the ideal enology: environmentally friendly with cement, steel and glass. The winery’s architecture harmoniously fits the hills and everything follows the pace of the nature in order to gently transform its precious fruits into fine wines. At Roccafiore the quality of the environment is considered as important in the production as the land, the climate, the vines and the wine-making style. Variety: 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino 15% Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot Tasting notes: Intense ruby-red wine in color with aromas of small red fruits, ripe plums and sweet spices that is remarkable in its intensity and persistence. There's a large aromatic volume marked by oak, and fruity and spicy sensations of cherry and blackberry. It expresses a unique class and elegance.

THE ANCHOR & VINE WINE CLUB SUMMER 2020

Cune "Vendimia Seleccionada" Verdejo 2018CVNE (pronounced Coo-nay), or as known by itits full name — Compañía Vinicola del Norte deEspaña (The Northern Spanish Wine Company),

was established in Rioja in 1879. The first wine ofCVNE was named after the company’s initials but

a simple orthographic mistake with the letter ‘V’transformed the name CVNE to CUNE and

hence the name Cune (also pronounced Coo-nay)was adopted as both the name of the original

winery and for the wines produced under the Cunelabel.

Variety: 100% Verdejo

Tasting notes: Young greenish yellow color.High aromatic intensity, typical of the variety,

tropical aromas bound together with peach, apricots, boxwood and fennel, which both give asensation of freshness that incites to taste it. On

the palate it is smooth with a pronouncedexpressivity. Savory and balanced. Perfect for

appetizers, seafood, fish or even exotic sauces.

Krone "Borealis" Brut 2018

The last days of summer have arrived although for us Californians that can either mean ushering in a cool autumn breeze or temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. So, for this shipment we’ve included wines to match both scenarios.

The newly released 2018 Krone "Borealis" Brut is a lovely MCC (Method Cap Classique, the South African classification for sparkling wines made by the traditional champagne method). It’s a complex bubbly for fans of Champagne who like that apply yeastiness on the nose and palate and fresh acidity on the finish. The 2018 Cune "Vendimia Seleccionada" Verdejo from Rueda, Spain has been a clear summer favorite for the Maritime staff. It’s dry, crisp, and refreshing from start to finish and really not fussy at all. Because of this, we added it as the picnic wine of the bunch. The 2019 Tenuta Di Aglaea Etna Rosato is a special wine for Maritime to offer as it’s rare to find imported Etna Rosés in the US. We ourselves only received a few dozen bottles this year! As far as rose goes this one is on the sweeter side, however the luscious basket-o-ber-ries fruitiness is nicely balanced with a clean acidic finish. We recommend serving this one ice cold and pairing it with sweet antipasti such as chevre and honey.

The 2017 Domaine Guy Amiot et Fils "Cuvée Simone" Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a knockout for a wine designated as a simple “Bour-gogne”. The Domaine’s vineyards are all located in and around one of the world’s most prized appellations, Montrachet, giving Amiot’s reds a rustic quality to them, as well as elevating what could be misleadingly thought of as a basic Red Burgundy if you spotted the bottle on the shelf. Roccafiore’s 2015 Montefalco Rosso is produced biodynamically as a “natural wine” and is a predominately a blend of Sangiovese and the indigenous Sagrantino making the wine a killer pasta/pizza pairing. The final blend includes Cabernet and Merlot similar to a Super Tuscan, although the wine is still on the medium bodied side. From the winemaker of Clos Mogador comes the Com Tu Garnacha 2017 from Montsant, Catalunya, Spain. This wine is normally heavily allocated, but we were lucky enough to get our hands on a few cases, and it’s received pretty high ratings due to its Châteauneuf-style. As winemaker, René Barbier Ferrer, puts it, “based on our nearly 20 years’ experience in working to improve our tasks, my family and I can assure you that the Grenache grapes from La Figuera produce wines with a unique color range, tender and fluid; with a fresh aroma, of flowers, orange peel, incense, as well as wide range of white fruit, citrus, very fresh. Its high alcohol content together with its extraordinary acidity, helps the wine to age perfectly.”

May these wines provide some small comfort in these strange times!

Cheers,Nikita

Krone is Vintage-only Méthode Cap Classique, produced on Twee Jonge Gezellen wine estate in

Tulbagh, South Africa. They conintue to win awards around the world with their Champagne style wines. Each grape variety is fermented individually in tanks

and the first fermentation produces a low-alcohol base-wine. This fermentation lasts for a period of

approximately four months and once complete, the different base wine batches are blended and bottled.

Krone MCC is made in classic bottle-fermented style with maturation on the lees in their 300

year-old underground cellar.

Varieties: Chardonnay & Pinot Noir.

Tasting notes: Elegant, iridescent gold. Aromas of lemon and orange peel underscored by hints of

minerality evoking crushed oyster shell and a light biscuity character. On palate entry, juicy pineapple,

fresh yellow apple and salted caramel flavours come to the fore. The mousse is fine, persistent and

mouth-coating with a refreshing, tensile finish.
