My Fellow Legionnaires:
MAY / JUNE
WINDJAMMER
I hope all of you have weathered this unfortunate debacle that has gripped us all. Our Post financial position has taken a hit over the last two months. We are much better off than most. There has been financial investments made over the years that are definitely in our favor. We will survive !!! With the situation as it is, there will be no Post Birthday cer-emony this year. The members that have reached a continuous year membership bench mark are as follows: Norman Roloff 75 years
Darol Lee (Lefty) 75 years
Wendell Moore 60 years
John (Jack) Keiper 50 years
Dennis Johnson 50 years
Gerald Engler 50 years
Gary Tulius 50 years
These awards will be handed out, with pride, at our Post Picnic. Over the last two months a few of us have been very busy at the Post. We definitely have taken advantage of the time that we have been closed to better YOUR Post home. I would personally like to thank Tim Reed for being there every single time I have called for help. Our new facility Manager, Trish, has been very busy with cleaning and the reorganization of all coolers, the back bar, storage rooms, walk-in cooler and office spaces. Bonnie Swenson has graciously come in and cleaned all the windows. Projects completed are: Kitchen floors
Kitchen walls
Kitchen refrigerators and freezers
Walls have been painted in the big hall Floors have been stripped and waxed in big hall, bar area, hallway and classrooms
All padded floor mats pressure washed
Patio furniture cleaned
All bar stools, chairs and tables cleaned and sanitized
New counter tops installed behind bar Bar rub rails replaced
Remaining trees on property trimmed
Again THANK YOU !!!!!! As you know, all Memorial Day programs have been canceled. We will not be traveling to outlying cemeteries to fire, as was the norm in past years. However, we will still put American Flags on all Veteran graves, Friday, May 22 at 8:00 a.m. If you are interested in taking a walk outside for the day, all help will be appreciated. Call me at 458-7501 for more information.

BAR REPORT
From your Post 9 Facilities Manager
Bar Report May/June 2020
Hello to everyone! What a rollercoaster it has been! Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
I would like to start out by giving a huge thank you to a few of the members that have been helping me out with getting the club spic and span and getting some projects finished. I am truly great-full for you all and can’t wait for everyone to see the wonderful improvements that have been made. I want to notify everyone that when we do open, there will be new prices going
into effect. The cost from the distributors are increasing so that means I need to make some adjustments to our current prices. To those of you who had registered for the Life Line Screen that was supposed to be held in April, it has been rescheduled for August 25th. If you are interest-
ed you can register at www.lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle or call 1-866-229-0469. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this event. Even though the club is closed, I have been letting the Red Cross in to hold blood drives and with the COVID 19 crisis they were in desperate need of blood and a large location so that they could have the proper social distancing. I was just informed by the Red Cross that since March the American Legion Post 9 location had over 430 units collected. That is an amazing number!! They have added a number of dates for May so if you are looking to donate please register at the Red Cross website or call 1-800-red cross. Also, we have lost a few of our bartenders as they have graduated and starting a new and exciting path. I would like to thank Haylee, Kendra, Katelin, and Marquel for all their hard work and I enjoyed working with you all! I wish nothing but the best for you all on your future! That’s all I have for now, I miss seeing everyone and can’t wait to be able to open the doors and see all of your smiling faces!!!!!! Stay well my friends and we will see you soon!!!

Ladies, This newsletter to let you know we are still around here at the legion. Me not so much but Trisha has done a lot of cleaning and organizing of things, Jeff and Tim, have cleaned in the kitchen and waxed all the floors, put in some new
counter tops in the bar, we are so lucky to have the 3 of you around, god bless you all. I've been making face masks, over 250 so far and now I'm trying my skills at surgical caps, it's a nice little break from the face masks, I like a lot of others have had trouble getting the elastic, but a friend of mine did come thru with some for me, I was so happy to get it. American Legion Auxiliary gave to the Winona Health 3rd shift workers $400.00 in gift cards ($10.00 each) from four (4) different local food businesses, to show our appreciation for what they do. Of course none of us know when this will be over we just have to hang in there and be safe, stay in the house like we are told to do ( I know that is sometimes overwhelming as I have had a few melt downs !!!!) I'm so glad that they didn't close the liquor store, as I'm sure a lot of you are also, not that I'm an alcoholic but I do enjoy a beer or two, and it would not be
good to run out. I want to shout out a big "THANK YOU", to all of the doctors, nurses, aids, cleaning staff, police, firemen, emts, and all who work in the retail business, that put themselves out there to keep our city, country going bless you all and you're very much appreciated. Please be extra kind to these workers they are just doing a job, and can't / don't control what is going on, Thank them and tell what a great job they are doing. Treat others as you want to be treated !! In closing I can't wait to see everyone and to hear the stories, stay healthy, be safe, stay home. Prayers to all, veterans, and troops included. Just a thought....save some of your stimulus check so we can party when the time is right, Ha! Ha! Missing all of you, Sincerely , Diane

Hello Legion family, Well this has been some spring. I am hoping everyone is doing OK and is safe and healthy. These are certainly different and difficult times we are going through. It is testing us in many ways. In a lot of cases, I for one am seeing the good in a lot of people who are helping other people. Complete strangers are reaching out to help others. The SAL helped by making donations of $500.00 each to the Winona Volunteer Services Food Shelf and to the employees at Sauer Home who have been through so much.
Please keep your neighbors in mind, what can you do to help them, a phone call, grocery pick up? Let’s not forget those great Veterans who may need to be checked on (buddy checks as they are calling
them). It’s simply someone checking on their well-being and ensuring they are doing ok.
It was with a heavy heart that we canceled our April Chicken Q and our Mother’s Day Breakfast. We still love our Mothers and of course wish them the best on their special day even though we won’t be meeting as a large Legion family to celebrate.
I know there are several people working on projects at the Legion during this shut down and we hope you take time to thank them. I know we are eager to get back and meet with one another and socialize. I’m sure the bar staff is eager to get back to work. It will be great to have the place open and running again. More details will follow once a plan is firmed up on re-opening. Stay tuned, we miss you all!
As a lot of people are saying “We will get through this together”, and I truly believe that.
In closing I wish you all the best. Be safe, say a prayer, God Bless you all and God Bless America.

Post 9 Winona
The warmer weather seems to finally be sticking around. We are starting to see more and more motorcycles making their way out of winter storage. Some news on our side to mention is that our annual spring ride and raffle have been postponed until a later date. We will let every one know more when we have a better idea of what’s going on with the social distancing and stay at home or-ders. We are keeping our fingers crossed that this will subside soon and our community can start finding our new normal.

American Legion Post 9 is in need of certain medical
equipment to help out our members and members
of the public.
We are in need of good condition wheel chairs and
good condition “wheeled walkers”.
We also have requests for toilet risers and shower
chairs.
If you have any of these items that you would want
to donate to us, please bring them in so that we can
help those who are in need of them.
But!!!!!!!!!!
Please bring in only these items that are in good
clean and operating condition. Please don’t bring in
items that are not in serviceable condition.
Thank you for considering this. Sam Sasser
