From the Pastor’s Desk… Advent is here! This season has a two-fold character. It is a time for preparation. We treat this liturgical moment with the same finesse of the visitation of a special guest arriving in our homes. This is also a reminder of Jesus’ second coming in glory, at the ends of time. The readings today contain valuable pointers encouraging us to be ready and to be prepared on both accounts. And so, we prepare for the Christmas season. We give the house a Christmas cleaning, we paint it, we prepare the decorations, and we trim the Christmas tree. We organize Christmas dinners and we make lots of lists; menu lists, guest lists, gift lists… We even have lists of our lists. And all this in the middle perhaps of forgetting our prayer life, the spending of money that we may not have, the bickering of the family and the excesses of the season. You got to eat more, you have to drink more, and you have to spend more. While we worry about the right manger under our tree, how are we preparing the manger of our hearts? What type of welcoming are we giving Christ? This is the season where we demonstrate what the birth of Christ means to us. This is the season where the Church makes un appeal for possible improvements in our lives as we move the anew depth of sincerity in our religion and in our relationship with the Lord. Advent is a fresh start. This is yet another opportunity to look around and make an assessment of our way of living. It is a time to strengthen what is weak to make right what is wrong, to straighten up what is crooked, to forgive, to build, and to wait. We believe in the triumph of faith over fact. As our society may point to the weaknesses of the institutional Church, the falling of vocations, the fallen of attendance of the laity to their Sunday duty, and the so called decline of Christianity in this country we remain faithful, we believe in something bigger than this historical reality. We become stewards of the good news as we wait. We know that there is something beyond this physical reality. We believe… We must not be afraid. In the middle of this expecting season, when the skies are getting darker, there is a light that will shine ever more brightly. It will be the light of a shooting star that got caught in the human flesh within the most holy womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary and landed in a little town called Bethlehem. Indeed this is the triumph of faith over fact. Let us prepare for the arrival of the King who will come with the dawn gilding the mountains with precious light and gilding our hearts with grace and glory. Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel!

Del Escritorio del Párroco… ¡Adviento ha llegado! Esta temporada tiene un doble carácter. Es un momento de preparación. Tratamos este momento litúrgico con la misma finura de la visita de un invitado especial que llega a nuestros hogares. Este es también un recordatorio de la segunda venida de Jesús en gloria, al final de los tiempos. Las lecturas de hoy contienen consejos valiosos que nos alientan a estar listos y estar preparados en ambas cuentas. Y entonces, nos preparamos para la temporada de Navidad. Le damos a la casa una

limpieza navideña, la pintamos, preparamos las decoraciones y arreglamos el árbol de Navidad. Organizamos cenas navideñas y hacemos muchas listas; listas de menú, listas de invitados, listas de regalos ... Incluso tenemos listas de nuestras listas. Y todo esto en medio tal vez olvidar nuestra vida de oración, el gasto de dinero que no tenemos, las disputas de la familia y los excesos de la temporada. Hay que comer más, hay que beber más y hay que gastar más. Mientras nos preocupamos por el pesebre perfecto debajo de nuestro árbol, ¿Cómo estamos preparando el pesebre de nuestros corazones? ¿Qué tipo de bienvenida le estamos dando a Cristo? Esta es la temporada en la que demostramos lo que el nacimiento de Cristo significa para nosotros. Esta es la temporada en que la Iglesia nos pide posibles mejoras en nuestras vidas, a medida que movemos con profundidad y sinceridad en nuestra religión y en nuestra relación con el Señor. Adviento es un nuevo comienzo. Esta es una oportunidad más para mirar a nuestro alrededor y hacer una evaluación de nuestra forma de vida. Es un momento para fortalecer lo que es débil, para corregir lo que está mal, para enderezar lo que está torcido, para perdonar, para construir y para esperar. Creemos en el triunfo de la fe sobre los hechos. Como nuestra sociedad puede señalar las debilidades de la Iglesia institucional, la caída de las vocaciones, la caída de la asistencia de los laicos a su deber dominical y el llamado declive del cristianismo en este país, seguimos siendo fieles, creemos en algo más grande que esta realidad histórica. Nos convertimos en administradores de las buenas noticias mientras esperamos. Sabemos que hay algo más allá de esta realidad física. Creemos… No debemos tener miedo. En el medio de esta temporada de espera, cuando los cielos se vuelven más oscuros, hay una luz que brillará cada vez más. Será la luz de una estrella fugaz que quedó atrapada en la carne humana dentro del sacratísimo vientre de la Bienaventurada Virgen María y aterrizó en un pequeño pueblo llamado Belén. De hecho, este es el triunfo de la fe sobre los hechos. Preparémonos para la llegada del Rey que vendrá con el amanecer dorando las montañas con luz preciosa y dorando nuestros corazones con gracia y gloria. ¡O ven, o ven, Emmanuel!

Estamos muy agradecidos a: • A todos nuestros feligreses, familias y amistades quienes contestado

el llamado de ayuda durante este tiempo de Acción de Gracias. Pudimos proveerle a las familias y individuales una cena caliente, abrigos donados por St. Hubert, gorros, guantes, calcetines y convivencia.

• A nuestras parroquias de compartimiento, St. Hubert y St. Louise de Marillac quienes les proveyeron a nuestras familias del Dispensario una canastas con antojitos para su cena de Acción de Gracias.

• LAPA (Asociación de Policías Latinoamericanos) por proveer los pavos y jamones para la canastas de Acción de Gracias para el Dispensario.

• Los Hospitales Presence Sts. Mary y Elizabeth y la Escuela Secundario de St. Helen por sus donaciones financieras y de comida de lata para el Dispensario.

• Blanca Perez y un grupo especial de abogados quienes han estado donando financieramente al Dispensario anualmente durante la temporada de Acción de Gracias.

• La Escuela Scuola Italiana quienes sus estudiantes pre-escolares hicieron unas tarjetas de Acción de Gracias con diseños de pavos hechos con el imagen de sus manitas.

• SALSA, nuestro grupo parroquial, quienes recibieron la comida enlatada, organizaron las canastas de Acción de Gracias y proveyeron la convivencia para St. Hubert

• Nuestros cocineros quien bajo el liderazgo de Nereida Mendoza ha cocinado para la Cena de Acción de Gracias para los desamparados por muchos años.

Es interminable la lista de colaboradores y voluntarios. Agradecemos a todos y pedimos que el Niño Jesús llene sus hogares de amor, salud y muchas bendiciones más.

We truly grateful to: • all our parishioners, families and friends who

answered our call for help during Thanksgiving. We were able to provide families and individuals with a warm meal, coats donated by St. Hubert, cats, gloves, socks and comradery.

• our sharing parishes, St. Hubert and St. Louise de Marillac who provided our Food Pantry families with a basket of goodies for their Thanksgiving Meal.

• LAPA (Latin American Police Association) for providing the turkeys and hams for the Food Pantry Thanksgiving baskets.

• Presence Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospitals and St. Helen’s School for their donations of money and canned goods for the Food Pantry.

• Blanca Perez and a special group of lawyers who have been contributing to the Food Pantry yearly during Thanksgiving

• The Scuola Italiana who had their preschoolers make Thanksgivings Cards with hand turkey designs.

• SALSA, our parish group, who received the canned goods , organized the Thanksgiving Baskets and provided hospitality for St. Hubert

• Our devoted cooks led by Nereida Mendoza who have cooked the Homeless Thanksgiving Dinner for many years.

The list of contributors and volunteers is endless. We thank you all and we ask that Baby Jesus fill your homes with love, health and many more blessing.

The Parish Giving Tree

The holidays are the perfect time to thank God for the good things we have in life. One of the best ways of being thankful is to use our blessings to help those in need. As of today Sunday, December 3rd St. Aloysius Parish will have a “Giving Tree” decorated with ornaments asking us to respond to the needs of many different groups: needs within our own Parish and the needs of the students attending St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School in Kenya. Parishioners will be able to take an ornament or two and purchase the items on the ornament. We want to take care of others first. Please make sure that the families and the children in Africa are helped. Please bring the ornament attached to the wrapped gift to the Church by December 20th. You can place your gift monetary/and or gift cards into the collection basket at Mass or you may drop it off at the Parish Office.

Los Regalos del Árbol Parroquial

Los feriados son el tiempo perfecto para dar gracias a Dios por todo lo bueno que tenemos en la vida. Una de las mejores formas de dar gracias es usar nuestras bendiciones para ayudar a aquellos en necesidad. A partir de hoy domingo, 3 de diciembre la parroquia de San Luis Gonzaga tendrá un “Árbol de Regalos” decorado con ornamentos pidiendo que respondamos a las necesidades de diferentes grupos: necesidades dentro de la parroquia y las necesidades de los estudiantes de la escuela San

Aloysius en Kenia. Feligreses podrán tomar un ornamento o dos y comprar los artículos del ornamento. Queremos ayudar primero a otros. Favor de asegurarse que las familias y niños en África sean ayudados. Favor de traer el ornamento adjunto al regalo envuelto a la Iglesia el 20 de diciembre. Puede poner su regalo de dinero/y o tarjetas de regalo en la colecta de la Misa o lo puede dejar en la Oficina Parroquial.

Help care for elders. “Thanks to support from the Retirement Fund for Religious, we are now in a much better position to care for our elders,” writes a religious sister. Your donation helps her religious community and hundreds of others

provide for aging members and plan for long-term needs. Please give to next week’s Retirement Fund for Religious collection.

El martes, 12 de diciembre habrá Misa de las Mañanitas a las 5:30am seguido de una recepción. La Misa de las Rosas será a las 7:00pm.

The Church of St. Aloysius invites you to the Novena of our Lady of Guadalupe that will start today Sunday, December 3 to December 11th, starting with a Rosary at 6:30pm followed by a Mass at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, December 12th there will be the Mass of the Mañanitas at 5:30am followed by a reception. The Mass of the Roses will be at 7:00 p.m.
