Sales Management CommentsWelcome to the most exciting Charolais event to happen this fall. Alberta Select 2012 is truly a sensational set of sale cattle that are very functional and right for the beef market. The females on offer combine eye appeal, thickness, muscle and structural correctness to go along with some of the top bloodlines in the Charolais industry today.

You will be very excited when you view the cow/calf pairs and see what a stand out coupon each one of these is raising. The udders are picture perfect and produce an abundance of milk to raise such outstanding calves.

I believe the breds on offer are as good a group as you will find anywhere this fall. They are sired by today’s leading sires and bred back to some new and exciting sires in the industry.

The heifer calves on offer are a very unique offering with ones that can enter a show ring and win the prestigious banners, to others that will be front pasture type females and go on to be great momma cows. All have tremendous potential.

Many of the females in the offering have donor cow potential and the ability to take your programs to the next level.

With a very select set of bull calves being offered, I’m sure you will find one that meets your demands. If you see a bull calf in the show that you are interested in, please approach any of the Transcon sales staff and we will make every attempt we can to get him in the sale.

We invite you to come on Thursday, evaluate the cattle and stay for some great Charolais fellowship and the evening events the Alberta board members have planned. Friday will start off with the single bull show at 10:00 AM, pen of three bull show at 1:00 PM and followed up by the Alberta Select Sale at 5:00 PM.

We hope to see you on sale day, but in the event you are unable to attend we at Transcon Livestock can assist you with any questions you may have about the cattle or handle your absentee bids in the profes-sional manner you deserve and would expect from the Transcon crew.

1. PICK OF THE KAY-R BULL CALVES

KAYR On The Prowl 812Z is a fresh new pedigree that has us excited about the future. The Prowler calves have the potential to leave a lasting impression on our herd. Low birth weights with explosive growth, great dispositions and a look we love. On the Prowl is a soggy made, heavy muscled calf with the ability to be a potent individual.

Rolling D Classic 878U exemplifies everything we look for in a herdsire -- sound, extremely easy doing, and as quiet as you can get. His females have been more then we could have hoped for. They milk heavy, and have perfect udders. The bulls sell themselves and are consistently the first picked in our pen. KAYR Big Screen 601Z and KAYR Big Star 603Z are both big footed, easy doing ¾ brothers. Both the dams are among the best we have. Clas-sics has been an impact sire for us and with adding the maternal power of these Gridmaker dams, the opportunities are endless.

2. PICK OF THE KAY-R BRED HEIFERS

You will be selecting from approximately 30 bred heifers (excluding Kord’s 4-H heifer). Sires include Rolling D Classic, Gridmaker, and Sanchez. Service sires include Gridmaker, Prowler, and Revelation. The number of females we have sold in the past 15 years can be counted on one hand. We believe in a consistent, easy doing, and a money making cow herd. Our commitment to uniformity is evident in the depth of quality in this pen. We have focused on sound, functional females with great temperaments. Milk and udder quality are a must. We feel that our cowherd is as solid as you will find, and are excited to offer this pick and look forward to opening our pen. Calving starts January 5. Call for details.

As you analyze this young 2 yr old you really have to admire the angularity about her, the beautiful udder attachment and the overall depth of rib and quarter she has. As purebred breeders, we strive to build a program around cow families. T-Swift comes from one of the best. Her grandmother, Jolene 30H, is still producing at the age of 14 and working well for Sproule Charolais at Pincher Creek. Daughters of this great cow family are also working well for Gallelli Charolais, Reese Cattle Company and Chambers Charolais. The mother to T-Swift, Miss Free Star 537R, was a feature female at the New Country Livestock Dispersal and is owned by Elders Charolais. DBAR Synergy on the top side of her pedigree only adds more to this power packed pedigree. Miss T-Swift 18X was named Reserve Grand Champion female at the Canadian Junior All Breeds show in Bashaw this summer with her bull calf, NCLP Zeus 45Z, at side. Don’t miss the endless opportunities on this great young female come sale day !!

His width of top, eye appeal, depth of side, tremendous structure, smoothness up through his front end and actual birth weight of 84 lbs. makes Zeus herd bull material. Oh, and to top it off, he is smooth polled. Sired by the calving ease bull, LT Bluegrass, and mothered by his awesome 2yr old Freedom dam, Zeus 45Z will definitely be a bull you could use on heifers. This could be the calving ease bull you have been looking for. Watch for Zeus on sale day and don’t miss the opportunity to own a calf who we feel has a bright future ahead of him.

Already with four outstanding progeny to her record including Cyrus (a bull we walked in 2011) and a bull in the University of Alberta testing program in Kinsella, 712T re-ally out did herself with 206Z. This young Fire Water daughter has been admired by everyone who has seen her and one prominent breeder told us she could be the best we have ever raised. Chiver 712T is bred early to the latest addition to our TT bull battery, VFF Time Out 172Y. This will be the first calf born out of the $34,000 herdsire. Whether you choose the donor cow or the fancy show heifer calf prospect – just think of the opportunities and possibilities. It is enough to send a Chiver right down to the Heart of any cattleman. We are new as Charolais breeders however we have been raising Simmental for many years, this year holding our 18th annual bull sale. In 2010 we purchased 45 cows from Al-lan Marshall, Future Farms and added a few more last year from Stauffer’s dispersal and from Prairie Cove. We felt Charolais would make a natural fit with our Simmentals and so far they have been accepted very well. We had been watching this breed for a few years and could see it has a strong future. I would like to commend the Charolais breeders for sticking to it and making this breed what it is today.

I think these 2 Roundup daughters would make a great addition to anyone’s herd.
