Varsity Hockey Staff
HEAD COACH - BRETT RILEY Entering his second year as Head Coach at The Albany Academy for the 2015-2016 season, Brett Riley bringsan extensive hockey resume to the Cadets while being the youngest coach in prep school hockey. Last season,Brett led the Cadets to an impressive sixteen win season. In 2010, Brett founded the Boston Generals Hockey Club as well as GEN3 Hockey, an organization devoted to developing young hockey talent. Brett has also served as a regional scout for the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League and American scout in the QMJHL for the Charlottetown Islanders. Growing up in a hockey family, Brett played his high school hockey at Needham High School, a team that went on to win the Massachusetts State Championship, and was a standout at Governor’s Academy. At Governor’s, Brett received First Team All ISL Honors and the league’s Floor Shield Award, an honor given to the player who shows the most passion for the game. Brett is a graduate of Hobart College where he played his college hockey.
ASSISTANT COACH - WILLIAM RIVELLINI In his first year as an Assistant Coach at The Albany Academy, William Rivellini possesses a wealth of experience as both a player and coach. Bill graduated from Colgate University in 2013 where he played hiscollege hockey at the Division 1 Level in the ECAC. During his tenure as a player at Colgate, he contributed toadvancing the Red Raiders to the ECAC Final Four during two seasons. His coaching credentials are equallyimpressive having served as Assistant Coach at Belmont Hill School (2014-2015) and Head Coach of TeamMaryland AAA (2013-2014). Bill also held a position of Head Trainer at Michals Hockey Academy.Bill earned a B.A degree in Natural Science from Colgate University and currently teaches Seventhand Eighth Grade Science at The Albany Academy.
ASSISTANT COACH - ADAM PENROSE ‘02 Adam Penrose ‘02 continues to serve in a variety of roles at The Albany Academy. As an Assistant Coach,Adam brings a vast knowledge of the game from both player and coaching perspectives. Adam is a 2002graduate of The Albany Academy and played his prep school hockey under long time Head Coach DaveRider ‘73, P’04. Adam has been an Academy Coach for 8 years, including positions as Head Coachof the Junior Varsity Hockey Program and Assistant Coach of Varsity Baseball. Adam is a graduate of SUNYAlbany and currently mentors The Albany Academy Cadet Corps, an organization devoted to leadershipdevelopment through maintaining the military heritage of the school.
ASSISTANT COACH - MATTHEW RAKOCZY ‘10 Matt Rakoczy ‘10 comes to the varsity hockey coaching staff this year with a legacy of athletic achievements.As a 2010 graduate of The Albany Academy, Matt was Captain of both the varsity hockey andlacrosse teams. He was the recipient of the Erving F. Albright award as top senior athlete and the FredrickA. Plunkett award for leadership and dedication to hockey. Matt graduated from SUNY Cortland in2015 with a degree in Business Economics. He was a three time All-American, two year Captain and winnerof the Cortland “Red Letter Award” for outstanding athletic achievements and leadership. Matt alsocurrently plays semi-professional box lacrosse for the Vermont Voyageurs.
TRAINER - RONALD HUTCHINS Ron Hutchins graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of New Hampshire in 1998 with a B.S. in Kinesiology: Athletic Training. While at UNH he conducted research which the results were published in two peer-review journals, Isokinetic and Exercise Science and Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology. Ron began his career at The Albany Academy in August of 1998. During his time at Academy he has improved the care that our student-athletes receive. In 1999, the athletic training room was enlarged and new equipment was added to augment the type and level of rehab services available. Ron also provides the most up-to-date concussion management to all of our student-athletes.
