The Airport

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

(BHM) is Alabama's largest airport serving the GreaterBirmingham area and surrounding Southeastern cities.BHM offers over 100 daily flights to 18 airports in 15cities throughout the United States and presently ranks inthe country's top 100 airports in terms of passengersserved annually.

BHM is operated by the Birmingham Airport Authority, anindependent authority autonomous from localgovernment. The Authority is responsible for the day-to-day operations and long-term planning for the airport. It isgoverned by a 7-member Board of Directors that setspolicy, approves the budget, and hires the airport’sPresident / CEO.

There are 167 full time positions at Birmingham AirportAuthority supporting a FY 2018 operating budget of justover $45 million in revenues. BHM served over 2.9million passengers in 2018 with more than 99,000 aircraftoperations. Additional activity at BHM includes one eight-bay cargo facility, one FBO with two locations, and anAir/Army National Guard facility. The airport is host toover 100 leasing tenants and 4000 total employees.

The five-year capital improvement program for theAuthority (FYs 2019-2023) has estimated expenses ofnearly $159.5 million. In 2014, the Birmingham AirportAuthority completed its most significant terminalmodernization project to date at $201.6 million, whichachieved LEED Gold certification.

Railroad Park has won numerous awards and was most recently named the best park in Alabama by MONEY magazine.Red Mountain Park, one of the largest urban parks in the UnitedStates at 1,500-acres, features the city’s industrial history mixedwith adventure, with multi-use trails great for hiking, trail running,and mountain biking. For another fun day, visit The BarberMotorsports Park and Museum, an 880-acre, multi-purposeracing facility located on the eastern fringes of Birmingham. The Position

The Chief Financial Officer directs and manages allfinancial and fiscal management functions of theAuthority’s operations and responsible for adhering toGAAP for safeguarding the Authority's assets. Thisposition also provides leadership and management ofthe administrative, business planning, accounting andbudgeting efforts of the Authority.

Position Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting, Master's Degree preferred and ten (10) years of experience in senior-level finance or accounting position with five (5) years’ experience in airport finance or management with familiarity with airport revenue sources and FAA federal grant programs. CPA and AAE or CM preferred and must be obtained within two (2) years of start.

Experience must include the following:

1. Experience in strategic planning and execution.2. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change

management.3. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and

cost control principles including Generally AcceptedAccounting Principles.

4. Knowledge of automated financial and accountingreporting systems.

5. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.6. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial

Salary & CompensationThe salary range for this position is $100,00 –$150,000 depending on qualifications and isaccompanied by an attractive benefits package.
