The AH Question Paper is 40% of the exam

Questions 7 and 8 are worth a total of 10 marks and they are open ended - i.e. YOU supply the answers. Each ‘bit’ of the answer is worth only 1/2 a mark.

So you must write A LOT!

You must listen to music and “….identify distinctive features and use appropriate concepts to describe what you hear.”

Here are some answers which EVERY piece of music has:

A key: I.e. tonalityMajor/Minor/Chromatic - does it change? Sequence - every piece has a sequence - where?

A Time signature: 3 beats in the bar? 4? 5?

A tempo - allegro, andante, presto, largo, etc.

Tempo change - slow down (Rall) speed up (Accel)

Rhythm effects - dotted rhythms, Scotch snap, Anacrusis,irregular phrase lengths, triplets, augmentation, diminution, syncopation, repetition, ornaments

Cadence: Perfect: finished. Imperfect - half way through. Plagal: finished in Church (Amen) Interupted: what it says on the tin!

Form: AB Binary, ABA Ternary, Round, Canon, Ground bass, Ostinato/Riff, Counter melody,

Instruments and/or voices used:

Be very specific e.g. Bass guitar, acoustic guitar, solo violin,

Tenor voice, solo violin, muted trumpet

Don’t be afraid to write the obvious/easy:
