The song also won the Brit award for Best Single and was nominated for a Grammy.
When making the music video, Sheeran already had ideas of his own. When first recording the song he didn’t have a recorder so had to make a video on his Mac. When asked about his influence behind the song at the Grammy’s he replied “The A Team is written about a woman that I met in a homeless shelter”.
The cover art for the single displays the actress used in the music video with her arms up in a cross-like position. It suggests she is sacrificing herself to her environment, because her destructive life has become because of drugs.
Furthermore, her back is towards the audience hiding/ masking her identity. It suggests she is an anonymous female and represents the homeless female population who are affected by drugs and the matter of living on the streets.
