OPPORTUNITIES IN VIETNAM

Vietnam’s plastic exports hit US$2.2bn in 2013: VPAIn 2013, Vietnam exported more than 20 types of plastic products into 151 international markets over the world. In which, exports of plastic bags jumped by 27% on year; exports of plastic figurines, flower pots and ornaments increased 26.4%; exports of plastic tubes and accessories, caps, valves… increased by 28%. In 2014, Vietnam’s plastic exports are seen to increase 13.5-16.5% from 2013. Japan topped the list of Vietnam’s plastic importers in 2013 with $401 million, up 11.2% on year, accounting for 20% of total plastic exports value; followed by US, EU. Vietnam Reaches Top Three In World For Rubber ExportsVietnam has surpassed Malaysia and India to become the world’s third largest exporter of natural rubber. According to the latest statistics by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC), Vietnam’s rubber output was estimated at 1.043 million tonnes in 2013, up 20.8% from the previous year, climbing two notches to third place among the world’s largest exporters of natural rubber. Vietnam Plastics Industry to See Strong GrowthIn particular, cheaper borrowing costs and more investment in Vietnam from multinational manufacturers is driving strong growth in the country’s plastics industry. The plastic manufacturing industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Vietnam, sustaining an average annual growth of 20 percent to 25 percent. The majority of these plastic products are made for export. The most common products made include packaging, household products, construction and engineering plastics. One of the potential long-term advantages for Vietnam’s plastic products comes from the growth seen in its domestic market.
